I like how TOR fanboys cannot possibly justify in their mind how anyone might dislike their game enough to post a negative review about it... but a 10/10 is completely justified because TOR is the best game ever ever ever.
I mean sure.. you can like it.. but you can OBVIOUSLY see that it's not perfect... and for some people it's not good at all.
I gave it a 5/10 on Metacritic... and most of the negative reviews make more sense to me than the positive ones
It's not that we can't "possibly justify" that someone dislikes the game, it's that many of the people who dislike the game:
Not played it at all yet.
Are following the bandwagon of other peoples' reviews.
Have only played one aspect of the game (i.e. the single player storyline on the first planet, and they haven't even gotten their companion, their ship, or tried group play)
Have reviewed the game with an absurd score (numerous 0's). No game in existence deserves a 0 out of 10. Every game has at least a little bit of value... unless it somehow physically kills you. Then you are allowed to give it a 0. But then you would be dead...
I commend you for giving it a 5/10, even though by your choice of words you're not a fan of the game. I'm glad you didn't ravenously give it a 0/10 because it wasn't the messiah of MMO's that you thought it would be.
EDIT: Spelling/Grammar (ironic that I had to edit it again because I spelled grammar wrong)
"Not that great" is subjective, what's great to you may be horrible to me so on and so forth. Reviews are meant to offer an informative look at a game, it shouldn't be based on preference, as preference is different from person to person. A review should measure how a game stacks up for it's intended audience.
I'll go back to the COD scoring pointed out earlier. IS that 2.1 average based on the games intended audience, or is it based on those who don't like the franchise and prefer BF3? I'm willing to bet it's the latter.
I would write another review and be as objective as possible, but I already did that and can't put myself up to it again. The game masks the oh so common theme-park ride with VO and a companion....EVERYTHING else in the game is standard fair that's been recycled since the early 2000's....it's not even 1% different....it's completely copied over...different setting, different story, same game. In the end, a game is a game because of gameplay....not story....if I want a good story, ill read a 5 dollar book.
Now this is where preference comes into play. Few theme-park games have been enjoyable to me. The only two thus far I could stomach were AOC and FE. Both of which I have a ton of gripes about overall. What drew me in was a connection to the Story or environment/atmosphere.
TOR on the other hand drew me in on an all around level. Atmosphere, story and game-play. Yes TOR has many of the same features other theme-parks have had, but it's their execution that sets it apart for me.
Your mileage may vary, and that's okay, just realize your "opinion" is not universal.

See my proceeding comment about it physically killing you. If you played it and are now here typing, I am completely convinced that you are a zombie. :P
If TOR is a 5 then what the fuck does that make every other MMO? Seriously if SWTOR is a five then what does that make games like Guild Wars, WoW and RIFT?

Uhhh yeah. I'm not sure what your point was here Snaylor. In exception for MW3 and SWTOR (which has no critical reviews), the user score was pretty close to the critical score. Also Force Unleashed and Duke Nukem are pretty much known to be crappy.
There's some serious hating going on there. Many likely hate theme parks, hate WOW or are mad that SWG is gone. It's like giving the current top FPS games low ratings because you hate FPS games in general. You aren't the target audience and your opinion is meaningless to them.
I would never buy a game based on metacritic or amazon reviews/ratings.
To be fair, Force Unleashed 2 was completely phoned in.
It was a comparasent,
How can games like The Force Unleashed 2 and Duke Nukem forever have higher score then games such as CODMW3 and SWTOR?
Is (so called) innovation of mainstream games so important when there are thousands of games doing it differently?
Are games like TOR and COD:MW3 really worse then TFU2 or Duke Nukem?
No, I would say they aren't, and user reviews definitely aren't very reliable because of essentially sampling issues. That said though...they are usually pretty good at being low when a game honestly does suck. Of course sometime they are low when a game doesn't suck because some users are offended somehow by the game.
If TOR is a 5 then what the fuck does that make every other MMO? Seriously if SWTOR is a five then what does that make games like Guild Wars, WoW and RIFT?
As far as theme park mmos are concerned.. WoW is a better game than TOR with a lot more stuff to do and experience.
Rift has more than TOR as well.. and a much more interesting class system as well as the rift events for PvE variety.
Guild Wars is kinda in it's own niche.. and it's not really an MMORPG but more of an MMOG.
I've played all of the above... but got bored with them quite fast...
What's the sadest thing about it all though is that TOR came out AFTER all of the above and has less innovation than EACH of them. Bioware seems to have a problem with evolution.
I don't read reviews. All I can say is that I am not a fan of themeparks at all. However, I played the beta and really found myself enjoying this game. The voice acting and the flashpoints sold me and I am really a skeptic. You have to try it for yourself to see if you will like the game.

Why do people keep on saying this?... MOST people tried the game in the beta... it was practicaly impossible not to get a chance to try the game

It makes them... possibly better, possibly less hated? Maybe both. Your post seems to suggest TOR is better than all of them. Why, because it's newer? Because Bioware made it? Please. Not factoring in possible hate votes, the game is still considered by most to be average or above average, I don't see the big deal.

I'd say slightly higher. A lot higher. Except for RIFT.
WoW and Guild Wars though?
They were released in 2004 and 2005.
You have to remember, the gaming landscape back then (especially for MMOs) was very, very different compared to what we see today.
There was a bit of "newness" to them; they were very polished, extremely accessible as MMOs.
Newer games of today who follow those models will never receive higher marks than their predecessors because it really is more of the same.
Why would I give a higher score to a game that's essentialy a copy/paste of a game that came out 8 years ago?

You know what's hilarious? This fanboi war has now spilled onto metacritic completely. There is a thread on the SWTOR official board rallying support for the game on metacritic because it is being "attacked." And lo and behold, it has risen from like 2.something to 5.0 already.
How far does this my game is better than yours crap have to go? You don't have to convince yourself that the game is the second coming just to play it, and you don't have to demonize it because you don't like it. How about just give it an honest review?
If I were to review it, I would give it an "8." I think that's fair. Why do people have to turn this into some immature fan-war?

Cause they are bunch of insecure fanboys man. MW3 on metacritic got bombarded with BF3 and other fanboys. Yet it sold 9.86 million copies so far and most played game in the world right now. I bet 80% of those whiners didn't even play the game lol. The internet is a sad sad place. I wish people had more to do with their time than rate a game bad simply because they think it's bad or has a need to "justfiy" their choice of gaming. But TOR is most likely getting negative reviews from WoW fans, or other MMO fans just like MW3 got bad reviews from BF3 fanboys. Critic review wise MW3 beats BF 3 i believe. Could be wrong.

And the pros get paid. You might as well avoid Meta altogether if you think one side is being more honest than the other.
Thread filled with subjective views on people who are giving their subjective views on something.
