Guess what, bud. "The Masses" love McDonalds, and it's some of the vile "food" on the planet. The Masses also like music by people like Lady Gaga...... do I need to continue? The point is, just because the game is doing well, does not mean it's a great MMO. People on these forums may skew different than the general public, but that to me simply indicates that we know better what makes a game truly good or not.
What's your point anyway? Should no one post negative feedback in hopes of improving the game? Are you saying it is perfect as is? Are you saying that because Lucus and Bioware are raking in the cash, that this automatically means the game is good?
Then should I start listing things that small niche groups of people enjoy that most of you would never touch with a 10' poll?
Does that make that niche group of people more "right" than most of us?
If 5 people hate Lady gaga and 1000 people love her then should those 1000 people hang their heads because 5 people have a differening opinion?
If that's the case then you might support plato's assertion that the only group of people who know best are the philosophers and they should be raised to kings because they know better.
of course, some think this mode of thinking led to totalitarianism.
Truth of the matter is that most of us will at times be a niche and at times fall into the masses.

All those unhappy people who can't play are going to somewhere to do something else. I'm one of them. My cpu speed exceeds minimum requirements by 50%, I have 100% more ram than required, and my gpu exceeds the speed of minimum requirement by more than 150%, yet my fps drops below 15 immediately when there are more players on area. Hard to be very happy in this situation.
These are legitmate concerns that should be discussed. However, that is not what the OP is talking about. When someone constantly posts things about the makeup of the game(it isn't a sandbox), the features (I hate voiceovers) and everything else we have already known which can never be changed, then yeah, they have a clear case of a troubled person that needs to move on.
Dear OP, if you have a good time playing, you and your guild: well good on you, just continue, I sincerely hope you enjoy the game.
Meanwhile, some of us are less lucky if you can call it luck. Ask some of the Australians for instance.
And while it is easy to be negative , with all big statements of the companies: the general "hooray" and everything is perfect stories, things are sometimes not as it should be.
If I get a screen which says the digital pc-download is "sold out", well obviously this is not what it should be at a launch day.
For anything else being marked as "whining" about certain aspect or mechanic of the game: most of the players will stay silent, in fact for one communicative player there are ten which you will never hear or read. If companies want to get an idea of what the playerbase is thinking it will start with a survey of possible issues.
If there are some stupid remarks, or it is obvious somebody is out of line, ignore it.

You basically want people to stop expressing their opinions on this forum? (Presumably you're not hypocritical enough to say that only positive opinions are to be expressed)
Isn't that one of the prerequisites for being a fanboy?
Alot of us got told TOR was the second coming of Jesus, Ultima Online, and DAoC so we are interested to see how it is doing! Also it would kill WoW and every other themepark on day 1 and have the most perfect launch ever.
Thing is, a large part of the active posters on mmorpg.com are ex SWG players. Its a historic thing - before my time actually - but apparently they all came here to talk about SWG going down the pan during the CU and NGE debacle and are a part of the reason mmorpg.com grew into the success it is today.
This is a problem for SWTOR because SWG fans are generally sandbox fans and so hate on themepark games, are pissed that SWG has closed down, are still pissed about CU and NGE, and see SWTOR as replacing SWG with something they dont like.
Add to this the large contingent of GW2 fans that just wanna hate on SWTOR because GW2 is releasing soon and wanna big up GW2, and you have a rather skewed version of reality.....
Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom
The hate threads and negative reviews concerning SWTOR are due to the fact that a lot of people would like to see a new sandbox style game come out and are taking it out on the latest themepark. SWTOR is a pretty well done themepark, if that is what you are into. If people don't attack the themepark style of game then developers won't know that there are people who would like to see something different. There is a big group of people who enjoy sandbox games but don't have many options to choose from. Anyone who says there isn't a market for sandbox or hardcore style of games is either trolling or misinformed. It's the same type of thing we see people posting about concerning "western gamers" Western Gamers apparently want easy games, from what I have heard. Which is, of course, bullshit. Lots of western gamers enjoy challenge, sandbox style, and more hardcore styles of games with nasty death penalties. If you don't believe me then maybe check the sales for Dark Souls. It has sold a ton of copies in the West, despite the belief that Western Gamers are some sort of mentally challenged people who need to be spoonfed victory. Of course there are these types of gamers in the west, but there are plenty of gamers who grew up playing nintendo and sega consoles and moved on to games like UO. These gamers long for a challenging game and a sandbox world. They are only attacking their natural enemy, the themepark mmo. SWTOR is just a big target right now as the latest release. It's nothing personal.

Wow lol Well here is my 2 cents. I like al kinds of games , I like all kinds of styles (primarily sandbox), I like alot of companies (not so much actishit or failcom)
I guess at the end of the day for SWTOR I am loving it oddly enough. Now I could explain myself or blah blah but I will just say that I am loving it and if it bothers you that I am loving it to fucking bad for you eh?

The guy list like 14 different legitamate complaints. Every comment after that is telling he is lying, then you have sites like MMORPG saying the biggest issue is mirroring or the UI?
TOR is getting a free pass right now. I wish to god you people would hold TOR's ass to the fire like you did with Rift. If Rift was missing that stuff you guys had pitch forks and were in the streets.

@OP: Reason that you will normally see more bad comments about games than good is that players who love playing won't post much while doing so. Another one is that generally people tend to post about things they dislike than about things they like.
Some people even state that according to the bad posts on the official forum etc. SWTOR won't last long, but seem to miss the point that judging by the same criteria, WoW (and many other MMOs) would have died years ago
Anyway, people were saying the same thing OP is saying for Aion within its first week. Look how that ended up.
To be clear here Aion went down the crapper thanks to NCSoft not giving the game a local dev team and they sat on content and never communicated basically anything ever.
I doubt Bioware will be like that, but they could always suprise. They are proving to be useless on fixing the pve and pvp exploits...btw guy you can turn your weeklies in at end game multiple times. <---pretty sure that deserves a hotfix, but no mention of it
All of the things the OP listed could also have been said of Warhammer Online the first week of release.
Just saying...
True, and also for most, if not all, major releases in these last couple of years, WAR, AoC, LotRO, AION, RIFT...all very "pretty please and with sugar on top" but we all know what happened next.
That doesnt mean it will happen to SWTOR, and i hope it is successful, but we have to considerer the possibility that this game may take a nose dive in the next couple of weeks. Too many upcoming games in the line. If SWTOR not good enough to handle them, it will eventually break down the sub base, and the funniest thing is, if that happens it will probably not be because of SWTOR itself...
It's the old "I don't know anybody who voted for X" syndrome and it really cuts both ways...
Essentialy people tend to congregate with others who have like tastes and intrests....especialy in venues dedicated to a particular interest or hobby which have developed a certain culture or slant. So that often leads them to fail to recognize that their impression of the "general consensus" on any particular issue can be highly localized to the environment where they hang out.
If you went over to the TOR boards or a TOR fansite you'd probably have alot of people express an opinion to the effect of...
"EVE....I can't see how anyone could possibly like playing that?" or "Lineage.....I can't see how it keeps any players what-so-ever?" even though both games have pretty healthy subscriber bases.
All you are really seeing is people express thier personal preferences.......and then sometimes make the mistake of trying to ascribe those opinions to the general populace.
I actualy like MMORPG because it draws in people with very diverse tastes in gaming.....and it doesn't seem to try to censor or bury expressions of those tastes.
Personaly, it's difficult for me to comprehend why people like/are interested in TOR (just like it's difficult for me to comprehend why anyone likes liverwurst) since very little of what it offers has much draw for my tastes....and some of what it offers, I actively dislike. However, I do recognize that ALOT of gamers with different tastes then me do seem to enjoy/are interested in TOR.
All of the things the OP listed could also have been said of Warhammer Online the first week of release.
Just saying...

It is possible, but from what Im seeing while actually in game and the feedback among the guild, no one has any intention of leaving any time soon...except those who perhaps powerlevel to 50 by hitting the space bar and then wonder why there are not more levels.
Its so amazing when I pop back in here and see all the negative threads for TOR. I don't get why so many continue to hover here for a game you don't like. Its like some sort of obsessive disorder. All I know is the following:
1) If you do a google over the last couple of days on reviews, most of the reviews from outlets are generally positive..though one would never get that from these forums.
2) The server queues indicate someone is enjoying themselves considering they were heavy even before launch and there are quite a number of servers out there.
3) The fact that at just about every website, the forums for SWTOR are going down the page in minutes is a sign that people are interested.
4) The fact that in game, just about EVERYONE I group with is loving it.
5) The fact that my guild has over 300 active people in just the first week is a great sign. The fact that about 99% of them are lovin in is another.
6) Even the staff here at MMORPG is enjoying it..according to the article I read.
7) Yes, its just release and numbers may drop over time, but the opposite may very well happen, that they actually increase.
Someone please pour some water over some of you to wake you up and bring you back to reality. You don't have to like it, but we get it, you didn't like it a day ago, a month ago, a year ago, when it was just a game sperm cell, move on.
Pretty much summed up my feelings exactly, OP. On this site you'll get the vocal minority speaking for the masses, because the masses are actually online enjoying the game.
agreed, and whats really sad about all of this is that there are newbies who come to these forums who might actually want to learn about the game, first time MMOers...and then they read some of these crap threads and get turned off..which is probably the intention of several folks here.
@OP - It's not worth the aggravation, mate. You can't win with these people, I mean look at the logic that's been deployed on this thread alone - a lot of people like Lady Gaga, a lot of people like TOR, therefore proving that TOR is rubbish.
Generally speaking, people will only believe whatever confirms their prejudices. It's always been so but the internet age amplifies it.
Originally posted by Tawn47 So let me get this straight. You basically want people to stop expressing their opinions on this forum? (Presumably you're not hypocritical enough to say that only positive opinions are to be expressed)
I'm all for people expressing their opinions. But if you're posting something negative in every thread you can find, it becomes less of an opinion and more of a protest. Which is not ok. If you want people to respect your opinion, then respect the fact that we heard you the first time.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
I actually love tor have no intention of leaving anytime soon, im intend to play tor till its dying day. i love it that much the more i play it the more i love it.
That said this thread really isnt gonna accomplish anything, the reason they bash tor is one they dont like that others are having fun in a game when they cant seem to enjjoy any game on the market,
They dont want u to have fun in games if they cant , and theye xpect gw 2 to reinvent every aspect of mmos and as such all other games suck compared to a game they know next to nothing about.
It doesnt really matter if gw 2 is a great game or not, if gw 2 doesnt reinvent mmo gaming for these folks they will flame it also, unfortunalty its not gonna totally reinvent the mmo genre and so after that releases u will see those same ffoks flaming tor flaming gw 2
its a sad cycle they cant enjoy games so they dont want anyone else to either.
ok defenders of the light...do not think i have seen one positive thing listed about TOR..you are all just happily bashing people who do not like the game...
Want to list all the GREAT things that this game has please? so those mmo newbies can see the great features before spending their money..i mean if i want to buy something i do not look at just the good things..if it breaks down in 2 weeks then i would like to know that..
Seen tons of valid negative aspects but really not many positive ones.......so please list them and why they are so great?

Keep playing the game you enjoy and stop worrying about what other people think of it.
If you're having fun, how does someone else's opinion factor into that?
I find it down right mystifying that people who are annoyed by negativity on forums keep reading it!
