Its so amazing when I pop back in here and see all the negative threads for TOR. I don't get why so many continue to hover here for a game you don't like. Its like some sort of obsessive disorder. All I know is the following:
1) If you do a google over the last couple of days on reviews, most of the reviews from outlets are generally positive..though one would never get that from these forums.
2) The server queues indicate someone is enjoying themselves considering they were heavy even before launch and there are quite a number of servers out there.
3) The fact that at just about every website, the forums for SWTOR are going down the page in minutes is a sign that people are interested.
4) The fact that in game, just about EVERYONE I group with is loving it.
5) The fact that my guild has over 300 active people in just the first week is a great sign. The fact that about 99% of them are lovin in is another.
6) Even the staff here at MMORPG is enjoying it..according to the article I read.
7) Yes, its just release and numbers may drop over time, but the opposite may very well happen, that they actually increase.
Someone please pour some water over some of you to wake you up and bring you back to reality. You don't have to like it, but we get it, you didn't like it a day ago, a month ago, a year ago, when it was just a game sperm cell, move on.
Pretty much summed up my feelings exactly, OP. On this site you'll get the vocal minority speaking for the masses, because the masses are actually online enjoying the game.
Actualy, I rather suspect "the masses" are online posting recipies for egg-nog on thier Facebook page and probably have no idea what the acronyms MMORPG or TOR mean ....or why any grown person would waste thier time and money playing a virtual Jedi in a game.
It's a rather unfortunate tactic here that people try to dismiss the opinions of others as unimportant because they are "niche" or pump up the importance of thier own because they are "main-stream" or represent "the masses".
The plain and simple truth is the only opinion that posters here are really able to speak authoritatevy for is thier own.... unless you've been elected to represent some groups opinion by "proxy". I wish people could just stick to using the word "I" when offering an opinion.
All of the things the OP listed could also have been said of Warhammer Online the first week of release.
Just saying...
True, and also for most, if not all, major releases in these last couple of years, WAR, AoC, LotRO, AION, RIFT...all very "pretty please and with sugar on top" but we all know what happened next.
That doesnt mean it will happen to SWTOR, and i hope it is successful, but we have to considerer the possibility that this game may take a nose dive in the next couple of weeks. Too many upcoming games in the line. If SWTOR not good enough to handle them, it will eventually break down the sub base, and the funniest thing is, if that happens it will probably not be because of SWTOR itself...
It is possible, but from what Im seeing while actually in game and the feedback among the guild, no one has any intention of leaving any time soon...except those who perhaps powerlevel to 50 by hitting the space bar and then wonder why there are not more levels.
Again, a lot of people felt the same way about Warhammer Online during the first week after release.
Things can change drastically after the honeymoon period wears off. I'm not saying whether or not the majority of SWTOR's players feelings about the game will change drastically or not. Rather, I'm simply saying that claiming that the game is great because of anecdotal evidence of people saying they're having a great time, despite the fact that it's still the first week after the release, is nonsense.
Wait 3-6 months for the novelty of the game to wear off, and then we'll really see whether or not this game has what it takes to keep people interested and entertained.
You basically want people to stop expressing their opinions on this forum? (Presumably you're not hypocritical enough to say that only positive opinions are to be expressed)
I'm all for people expressing their opinions. But if you're posting something negative in every thread you can find, it becomes less of an opinion and more of a protest. Which is not ok. If you want people to respect your opinion, then respect the fact that we heard you the first time.
Would the same rules apply to someone posting positively in "every single thread that they can find" ?
I actually love tor have no intention of leaving anytime soon, im intend to play tor till its dying day. i love it that much the more i play it the more i love it.
That said this thread really isnt gonna accomplish anything, the reason they bash tor is one they dont like that others are having fun in a game when they cant seem to enjjoy any game on the market,
They dont want u to have fun in games if they cant , and theye xpect gw 2 to reinvent every aspect of mmos and as such all other games suck compared to a game they know next to nothing about.
It doesnt really matter if gw 2 is a great game or not, if gw 2 doesnt reinvent mmo gaming for these folks they will flame it also, unfortunalty its not gonna totally reinvent the mmo genre and so after that releases u will see those same ffoks flaming tor flaming gw 2
its a sad cycle they cant enjoy games so they dont want anyone else to either.
Really is amazing some of you feel this way towards people that do not care for this game. Stunning actually. Frankly reveals quite a bit about your own mentality.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

No, because positivity helps people. Negativity pisses everyone off.
Whooo-eee but the random selection method of the sampled group makes it pretty useless for any attempt at polling purposes.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

There is absolutely no reason to start a new thread for every little negative opinion.
I agree. All of these senseless topics complaining about the forums should get locked or deleted sooner rather than later. Lord knows there has been enough of them.
>_>

You are all welcome to post your opinions (positive or negative) about any game you wish on our forums. But there are a few caveats:
"Positive" posting no-nos:
Going to other game forums and posting constantly about how your game of choice is better than the game in the game board you're posting in for X Y and Z reasons.
Negative posting no-nos:
Posting negative opinions about a particular game or user with the intention of pissing them off. This is called trolling. And this also includes cleverly created topics that appear somewhat legitimate but are only being made to bait others into getting riled up, also known as trollbait.
Posting negative commentary about a specific game or topic on a consistent and frequent basis. For example, someone who has many legitimate beefs about a particular game and articules them well, but is essentially fighting the same battle on a day-to-day basis. At a certain point we consider this trolling as well and it is not allowed. If you really dislike a game, say your piece and move on. Or better yet, write a user feature on it.
We want you to be able to voice your negative opinion on a game, but it doesn't need to be in every topic of the game's forum, especially if it is disruptive to the discussion. "New patch added 10 zones!" "Who cares? It's still a themepark game." This sort of thing is really unnecessary.
I'm going to lock this one up now so we can all get on to actually discussing the game.

Positivity breeds complacency.
Negativity breeds change.
