We are still waiting on you guys to either go thru with banning constant negative posters here, as you mentioned the other day, or simply giving us a flame free forum for which to discuss the game some of us are actually playing.
Thx in advance.
Nice job, so people with different opinons than you should not be able to contribute to a discussion ?
Or do you work for Bioware and are you trying to sell more copies ? Think about what you are saying... I mean people following the rules of the site are welcome here as well...
Maybe i misread your post ?
Honest discussion benefits us all because we learn different POVs, that is the big benefit of discussion and interaction like this... If everyone has the same opinion what is the point ? The game just released, there are going to be reviews, thoughts feelings with such a huge release..
When the launch craze is over and SWTOR settles into its groove, then it will be a bit different...
Constructive discussion is more than welcome, bringing out both positive and negative. Problem is there are certain people who are just trolling and expressing their hatered towards this game. As I've said before I personally like to see them suffering and boiling with hatered instead of enjoying their lives but I still prefer constructive discussion.
/agree .. I think everyone just needs to take a deep breath. Many folks coming on here with negative thoughts and many with positive thoughts....
My hope is that those playing and enjoying SWTOR think less about defending the game and more about explaining how they are enjoying it and what they like... I think that people reading the forums that maybe have not tried the game yet would appreciate hearing that and it would certainly quickly expose those that are just bashing for bashings sake... rahter than stating honest opinions about their experience..
Becuase throwing a quote around is more important than reading my entire post.
But please clarify.. how am I trolling ?...
I will quote the post by Mike B again because you ignored it earlier. Read the green highlited part. I dislike lots of game but i do not haunt their forums. I disliked FFXIV and i had lot to say but i didn't repeat myself like a broken record for days. Your post are not constructive in any manner..all you do is repeat same three lines everyday and try to disrupt any mature or reasonable discussion. I can quote some of your posts to refresh your memory if you like?
Actually I did refresh my memory by looking over some of my previous posts.. it's not as repetitive as you make it out to be and most certainly not disruptive. It's always on topic and I don't take too kindly to you exagerating just to make your point. However I do fall under the highleted text part that Mike mentioned... it's kind of hard not to really.. unless you say something once and move on... which is pretty pointless in a conversation that brings up the same point over and over again.
As for being constructive, I don't know what else you expect from someone who dislikes a game. Am I supposed to analyze it and produce a report of how I came to the conclusions I came to?
Anyway.. I'll be off since I wouldn't like to get banned.
I would start by practicing what you preach if I were you, constant repetitive praise is no better than constant repetitive negativity.
Nobody likes a yes-man, make your point once and quit harping on it. If one is supposed to be a bannable offense, then both should be.
How cute.
The SWG vet forums would of had posters perma banned if that were the case. Folks come to forums to share their interest in stuff, not to listen to ten or twenty folks complain about the same things several times a day.
It is akin to the Chinese water torture, and goes against the site rules. Something Mike brought up the other day.
It isn't the case, but neither is the absolute deletion of all negative posts, which probably isn't what you think you are proposing, but is what it will ultimately amount to. The reason the rule isn't followed up on as closely as some think it should be is because it is a very slippery slope. Things can quickly get out of hand if you suddenly tell someone that they now have the power to get someone banned, simply because they think that the poster might be disagreeing with them on the same point more than once.
Rules like that should affect both sides if they are to be balanced in any way, else you quickly get the orgasmic fans going on power trips, and trying to eradicate anyone who objects to their point of view.
Simply because you believe that you are the moderator to end all moderators does not give you license to mock and bait posters under the banner of reform. It is entertaining, but ultimately futile and played out: any forum will have a number of like-minded individuals masquerading as revolutionaries and saviors. For the vast majority of them, the reality is that they are just trolls who skirt the boundaries of the forum rules, refining their craft with each temp ban.
We are still waiting on you guys to either go thru with banning constant negative posters here, as you mentioned the other day, or simply giving us a flame free forum for which to discuss the game some of us are actually playing.

If you want a fans only forum, then why aren't you sticking to the official one? Is that not moderated sufficiently to hide the bad and only show the good? As long as people keep on making thread after thread of positive only posts, there will be people that remind people that TOR is not the land of milk and honey that some people would like to make all others believe.
There is no more reason to ban the negative only posters than there is to ban the positive only posters. If they're being negative for the sake of being negative then they're probably banned already. If they have a point, they have a point, and are free to make it.
warcraft gets the worse trashing on this site, in its own forum on other games forums in pretty much every forum people are constantly comparing and trashing wow.
you even see certain names constantly doing it.
if they are gonna do what you ask for star wars then they need to do the same for warcraft.
This, and it is not just the game that people consistantly bash here, it is also the players... all the players. A certain level of mutual respect would be nice...
I wonder if Mike B likes to be the title of a forum thread Might want to pm instead. Most websites dont like it if you address moderators using forumthreads.
This thread isn't about deleting negative posts, its about stopping the spam of similar negative posts in a given hour. Granted, even I don't bother to search forums to see what everyone has posted, I know what I've posted. You'ld be suprised how many people create threads, same title, same crap inside on a regular basis.
The same probably goes for positive posts, no? Creating a new thread is so easy. If someone starts a nice and positive thread, it shows up on the main page, pushing down threads that already contain negative comments, and bam there they are again! Negative comments in my positively started thread! Oh no! Ban them! Ban them all!
Frustrating isn't it? If you want to wipe the forums of people who do not like TOR and respect freedom of speech then I think you have a difficult task ahead of you.
Have you ever noticed how often a poster is fully justified in (whatever he favors posting), but the other guys just aren't?
This applies to both teams.
Welcome to the internet.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Its not so much the negative posts I object to in these forums its people that come on here with an account they have just created to troll a game . Its quite damaging to the mmo genre in general given the amount of people that visit this site . Recently a thread did get banned but it had been reported for several days had several people in it asking for it to be taken down and I can only assume several mods looked at it and did nothing . This calls into question the impartiality of the mods that did so and how effective mmorpg.com moderation is .
My suggestion is not to allow someone to start up a new thread untill they have made a total of 50 posts on mmorpg.com . This would deter the type of trolling we've seen to some degree . Maybe make using the words WoW clone bannable too .
Its quite easy to see a troll thread a lot of the time and I know theres a lot of different game threads to police but when a games just been released or just about to be released it should be a priority espeacially when Mike B wrote an article calling on Bioware to lift its NDA . (which is around the time the thread I mentioned earlier appeared) .
This thread will most likly be locked or deleted because mods never like to be cristised .
But in my opinion for what its worth they need new mods .

It'd put a pretty big dent in the obvious alt trolling, too.
But sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. No particular good reason to screw a new user just because a troubled few are unable to cease crusading.

Let people talk whatever they want about any game, including swtor. Of course, without namecalling and all that.

Some forums dont let you start new threads until you reach a certain "Rank", this ranks are achieved by time since account creation and / or posting on others thread. Maybe we can have same thing here, doesnt look like a bad idea at all.

I think you underestimate the sheer tenacity of a converted crusader. (Else, this topic would not exist.)
One obvious drawback to the proposal, the mass of "I'm just in this topic to bloat my post count" that would be incoming.

Empty promises. Same happened with or pretty much any game release.
Trolls generate traffic, thus moderation motivation is limited.
You either stop coming here or you accept it as necessary evil.
I welcome video game discussion and debate. It is one of my favorite topics. But there are quite a few regular posters here that carry their discussions about games over into a discussion about the people playing them and that's usually when it gets ugly.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
I think MIKE B already made it quite clear. He is the boss here and if you do not agree well don't complain if you get hit by a ban stick. Read the part highlighted in green?

This is what it says in the ROC on Trolling, it's pretty vague compared to what I quoted,.
Posting excessive negative comments or baiting others to respond in a negative manner is considered trolling on the MMORPG.com forums.
For example: If there is one game that you did not enjoy, voicing your opinion is encouraged. Posting this opinion in every thread concerning that game to the point that it disrupts all other conversation is not tolerated
They need to be more firm about the ROC.
I frequent (-ed) subforums about certain titles and the same fricking people get a free pass to post their shit over and over without any visible consequence. Some even get a title for it! Hi-la-rious.
Over on the screenshot section it gets worse! They too get a free pass.
You call another poster out on their bullsh-- and YOU are the one getting a warning and possibly a ban.
Don't call them out -- report them (and please don't say "Reported!" when you do it.) This is the best thing you can do. If you aren't satisfied with the results of your report you are more than welcome to get in touch with me privately where I will review it myself. Thanks!
As someone who hasbeen on both sides, MikeB gets emailed by me when I get banned for whatever silliness I was up to.. Everytime.
With the ToR forums being the way they are at the moment, it's easier to look at being banned as a holiday present. More time to do whatever it is you do (I hope there is a secondary enjoyment if trolling forums is taken away from you, otherwise on-noes).
Finally, unless you were banned for life, take it in stride. Try to be nicer ( or not call people names ) and most things seem to slide as long as you don't come off sounding like an ass.
Easy way to get banned: make a negative comment about WoW or Blizzard.
Tear about any other game as much as you want.
Trolls become "spotlight posters"
That does seem to be true. I'm guessing that Blizzard foots most of the bills around here. I have learned to leave Blizzard out of my posts unless it is positive. No big deal though. Plenty of other games to talk about.
It would be better if they banned people that keep crying about this over and over again. Least their issue, topic, or whatever is related to the actual game rather than simply crying about the forums. Like this is anything new anyways.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I played it, didn't like it so I'm expressing my thoughts on mmorpg when I feel like a topic requires it. It's just my opinion.
Do I have to continuously play it in order to be able to post about it?
or even better.. do I have to play it and like it in order to post about it?
