Not a hater here but anyone making that assertion at this early stage makes my head spin.

Would spin too if someone were to make an article saying it was the worst mmo ever as well.

Oh well, least he waited until he played it for about twenty hours before coming to this conclusion. Seriously? Wtf...

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

You want to start the mother of all flamefest theads guaranteed something gets locked post this:

After playing this game for about 20 hours I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to World of Warcraft and that’s coming from a Blizzard fanboy. Old Republic changes your perception of not only what an MMO could be, but what an MMO should be. Studios like Blizzard could learn a thing or two from this game, and I really hope they do.

Nope my head is still on straight. I think you sir should just enjoy the game for what it is and I (hater I guess?) will continue to dislike it for what it isn't. 3 thngs to note why this article was pretty much a waste of time.

    1) Writer is a long term Starwars fan. Nothing wrong with that, but it does make me wonder how good it is, or how good the writer wills it to be. Fandom can sometimes cloud judgement.

    2) 20 hours played LMAO. When a "hater" states that the game doesn't grab them immidiately and hook them the fans come in and say that the game can't be judged on the early game. This should go both ways as well, especially when regarding MMO's. Therefor 20 hours is just to short a time to be calling the game the best MMO ever. The VO and overuse of cutscenes will get tiring to some. I personally feel that Bioware shoulda put more thought into the gameplay rather than placing all bets on story alone. When story is finished and you are left with nothing to do but the raid treadmill then the games stagnant gameplay comes into focus.

    3) When a writer needs to try to prove his argument by claiming it is better than WoW by saying he was a WoW fanboi, he loses credibility in my eyes. It doesn't help stick the point home because you can call a game better than your previouse MMO, but since it has a lot of similarities to WoW then I bet he feels right at home.

While I don't choose to play the game because it looks like utter crap to me, I don't think others are wrong for enjoying the game if this is what they find amusing. I am not trying to say it's a bad game and that's that, but when I see a post like that it just screams insecurity. Enjoy your game.

Since when should an MMO be an interactive movie?
SWTOR is a very good interactive movie.
But its missing a whole lot of left aside mmo gameplay.
He cant predict it will ever come.
Right now its overall a mediocre MMO with some outstanding parts/ideas i also like much but that will at some point lose significance to its players.
Computergames have nearly 50 years of history with mmos startig to grow rapidly since the last ten years and all what we got is a slightly improved version of Laserdisc games?

I expect much more from the mmos i play!

He has some valid points. I think that the first instance ( level 10 ) for both sides really is a cinematic experience and a special one for sure.

That said, evaluating an MMO as best ever 20 hours in is well... what it is.

reviews are great and opinions are great about gameplay mechanics... what is a bit useless is declaring SWTOR something for everyone ( best ever, worst ever ) ...

Key is reviews should help folks decide if it is for them, rather than leaving the customer to make these decisions based on a "headline" good or bad.

    Comical? Pathetic? Hilarious?

Really need a thesaurus to fully imply how ridiculous that is haha

lets see if its still the best mmo in 6 months when they start merging servers, you know it will happen.

Having read his article, I have been led to believe that the crux of his entire argument lies in the fact that he's such a massive Star Wars fan. I wonder what his reaction would have been had the game been based on... I dunno... some other sci-fi franchise? Or a completely new universe altogether?

That said, he does make a few points about how much of a cinematic experience the game is, but... I dunno. I really like my games more like games and less like interactive movies.

I don't know what's more sily.. the person that wrote that ridiculous article based on TWENTY HOURS of gameplay... or the person quoting it on a forum to spark up heated arguments.

Aaaw he is cute ..."Ever since I was a kid I’ve been a huge Star Wars fan.  I even had a specific section of my toy collection reserved for Star Wars related figures. Collectively I’ve probably watched the trilogy hundreds of times, and like a real Star Wars fan, I rant and rave about the prequel movies. "

And he even managed to get to level 20 to say it is the best game!

    :P

i have to give credit where credit is due!for rp player and sw fan or people that love a good story but dont like to read!this game is perfect for them!but if you are younger then say 21 years old you might ask you dady or mom to do the long part of cg while you do the action part !hahaha

Hopefully they merge servers prior to that,  They opened a lot to alleviate queue times,  but I still have queue times, while the newest servers they opened rarely gets to medium.  Everyone wants to roll on high population servers...  Whats the point of having so many servers if some don't.. or rarely do, fill up completely.

And as for not being about to tell how great the game is after 20 hours....   I agree with that.  The best stuff happens well past that.  Finishing your first "chapter" of your class story is truly a sight to behold,  even on the more boring stories like the consular,  the build up and end of the first story is always amazing.  The gameplay gets tougher,  the story gets very interesting, you have more companions, you're going to awesome planets that are huge and explorable - much better than anything you've seen prior.    It does seem way too early to tell.

I feel it's the opposite. Us old farts put greater value on our time. I'd leave cartoons for the kiddies.

Sounds like someone who has never really played anything but wow to be honest. I guess if you're only played those 2 mmo's it may seem like the best one ever.

Which other ones would you recommend for the writer, saying,  "play these, they are much better"?

This says more about Joshua Mobley then SWTOR.

At least he enjoys the game and he is a big StarWar-fan. Well that is it in two words.

"After playing this game for about 20 hours I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to World of Warcraft"

Yes, I tried WoW too, for as long as you can try it out for free. That that was it for me. I think SWTOR is going in the same direction. Thing is: do I have to enjoy it because HE is enjoying it or because I have my own ideas ?

No less silly than the people here saying it's the WORST MMO ever :)

I stopped reading at "best MMO EVER." The game is fun for the solo storyline, but it barely qualifies as a MMO in any aspect that matters.

Well, since he's firmly in the theme park player camp, I'd say he's right where he should be, however there have been (and still are) other game choices, (i.e EVE) better is a matter of taste however.
