What's actually inside is another matter.

Unfortunatly, the 'haters', as you call them, are aware of the fact that anything before the first month is pointless information. Although the fanboys are seemingly oblivious of this fact which just makes them look stupid. It can do very well in the first month but if 60% of the subs drop then it wont be doing so well anymore.

I would hardly call it pointless. It's the largest mmo launch in history. That's not pointless. They made a boatload of their money back on day one, if not all of it.

It may not be the most important thing when considering the future health of the game, but it is a long way from pointless.

We'll see in a few months. Also, just so you know, BW didn't even make half there money back in the "largest mmo launch in hostory" cause they spent too much money on a mediocre title.

i dont think any game has fully made their money back in the launch, and why should they really? they are in it for the long haul, not the first weeks of launch and then forget it..

I seriously hope your not basing this off of EALouse's garbage considering that 300 mil figure was debunked a long time ago.

Aside from that from box sales and digital sales they should be at a cool 140mil. Considering most rationale people figure the development cost to be between 100-150mil considering it cost more than WAR to develop but is vastly less that EALouses bull figures.

So I'd say anyone good at math that isn't trying to continue to spread misinformation and troll would say they've likely made they're money back already or come extremely close to it.

Oh, since noone has done this yet, I'll just post this here since it's relevant.

Right now SWTOR has 133(i might be off by one or two, it's hard to count that list) US servers, and 91 EU servers. This is around 225 servers.

Based on various claims, we can make a guess (wild speculation ahead) about how many people each server is currently housing/able to handle.

Bioware stated that they sold "Over a million." Another source (VGChartz) says that they sold around 1.6 million box copies. We can do the math with different numbers to show what each one would represent.

We also have to figure out how many concurrent users each server has. This could be tricky, as we have no way of knowing this.

All we can really do right now is speculate about the concurrent user counts, for that reason the purpose of this post is simply to show different possibilities based on different numbers. This may be totally innacurate. Also, this assumes an even split of people per server, obviously this is probably not the case.

    So about the speculative math:

If we accept that 1 million people bought the game, and played at launch or shortly around the launch date, then these servers would be handling around 4500 people each. This obviously wouldn't be concurrently. If we cut that rate in half (which is probably too big of a split around launch, but might be over generous now) of course that would be around 2200 people.

If the number of players right now is around 2 million (going by vgcharts and guessing at random unknown amount of digital sales) then we would be looking at around 9000 people on each server. Again, not concurrently most likely.

Let's say it's 500,000 players right now. I doubt that's the case, but we would be looking at an average of around 2250 players per server.

The other extreme (3 million users) would obviously 13,500 per server.

Now these per server numbers aren't huge numbers, and we obviously don't know which one is closest to the truth, but it can give us some sort of idea on what these servers are like population-wise.

Like I said, these are not concurrent users. They are not all logged in at the same time. If the number of players right now is 2 million, however, perhaps the 500,000 player number is more accurate when talking about concurrency during peak times. Again, we have no way of knowing.

It has nothing to do with EALouses "garbage" since we already know the actual figure or at least the one that EA states. There are also facts out at the real number of game sales out there. Also there are facts out there that tells how much EA/Bioware makes per game and how much LucasArts cut is. Alls you have to do is look and do the math.

lol, yeap, sure. You win a pointless internet argument cause you are the one too lazy to search for the facts. GJ, Winners don't do drugs! ^_^

It's STAR WARS... anything with star wars on the box sells a bucketload, let alone STAR WARS & BIOWARE.

We'll see if a few months. Also, just so you know, BW didn't even make half there money back in the "largest mmo launch in hostory" cause they spent too much money on a mediocre title.

Proof? That's a pretty bold claim.

I'll hold my breath, I'm sure you'll get back to me with proof real quick.

Or you could learn to use math for yourself but I guess that's too much for you.

It has nothing to do with EALouses "garbage" since we already know the actual figure or at least the one that EA states. There are also facts out at the real number of game sales out there. Also there are facts out there that tells how much EA/Bioware makes per game and how much LucasArts cut is. Alls you have to do is look and do the math.

lol, no links, no figures, nothing there but "Believe me cause I said so". Quit trolling my friend, you're simply not good at it.

They are posted on other threads, go find them. =P

In other words i have no idea what i am talking about. it is so easy to make up claims and never back them up.

Or the fact that if I did throw my proof on here, you will nitpick it like fanboys do to twist it and say how it's not true. So doing so would be a waste of time but whatever.

What proof? 'do your own math'? sorry you got nothing

    *chuckles*

Oh don't be so daft, it is simple math from a statement BW made on the 23rd (http://www.swtor.com/blog/ray-and-greg-thank-you-playing) "over one million people are now registered players of the game" lets give BW the benefit of the doubt and make it 1.5M sold copies and be (very) generous and give them ~60$ for every copy sold and the game cost ~120.000.000$ to make (low estimate I know)

    Income (1.500.000 x 60$)     90.000.000$

    Cost                                        120.000.000$

    Profit/Loss                              -30.000.000$

What math? How much did the game cost? You said they didn't make half their money back. To know that you would need to know how much money the game cost. I don't know how much it cost, so I'm asking you (who appears to know the answer).

Well, here's the math I can do.

If SWTOR sold 1 million copies (obviously a low guess) and we just count the standard edition price, they brought in 40 - 60 million dollars in revenue.

Bioware claims they sold over a million around launch day.  So lets say it was 2 million (the other extreme) They made 80 - 120 million dollars off sales.

Vgcharts shows that they sold 1.68 million box only copies. 80 - 100 million.   This doesn't count digital.

I tend to think this game is closer to 2 million than 1 million right now.  Even if we go with the one million number, you're saying this game cost more than 120 million dollars.  That's a possiblity, but also remember that I didn't account for collectors edition, or digital deluxe edition.

These numbers are very low estimates each time, because of the fact that I counted each sale as $60.

If the 2 million number is more accurate (likely) then you are claiming that the game cost $240 million dollars to make.

So I will say this one more time.  Got Proof?
