Just curious. I don't listen to any of them. At most I'll glance at the subtitles to get the gist of what's going on.
Always do! But I'll admit some of the sidequest ones just annoy me. "Yes, yes, what is your problem? Whatever it is, I'll do it. Need the XP!"
Still, playing with friends makes even the pointless dialogue more interesting. Sometimes different classes will say things you wouldn't expect and it ends up being surprisingly funny.
This. A few of the whinnier "Toshi Station" questgivers have prompted me to hit the spacebar, but other than that, I'm glued to the story.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Ayup......gotta have that EXP. The rewards dont hurt either!
I took the time to listen to all the quests. Thing is I have 16 characters(not to mention the other 16 that have gone inactive) I am lvling to varying degrees, and some of the VO gets down right annoying. After the second or third time of some of these quests, I have started to skip thru the VO I dont like.
Someone already mentioned alien talk.....I skipped thru that in KOTOR as well.
I really like the class arcs, so I am all fanboi on listening to them.
What you mention about running missions with folks is what I have experienced as well. Granted the only one I run was that first group mission when you leave starter planet, but that whole thing was pretty kick ass.
EDIT forgot to add.....the VO repetition thing wouldnt be bad if I wasnt lvling all my characters at once. When you get the same VO in a given day, or few days, it is fresh in the mind.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Only space-out when I am in a rush for whatever reason.
edit: or when npc's speak much slower than I can read (or speak alien mumbo jumbo slower than I can read)
I skip through most sidequests if I've heard them a quinjillian times since beta. Everything else I go through, as I want to recall every character involved to see what role they end up having in the story. Like Pony sez, Alien jibba jabba gets old and so there I just read the subtitles and advance forward when I'm done reading.

That's an aspect that can be missed, especially on a player's 1st time through. Many of the QG's, especially the World QG's, have some different dialogue based on your class.
"You seem a bit shifty to me, but I don't really have a choice to ask for your help."
Actually, I have a confession to make. That's not exactly true. If I am speaking to an Ugnaught, I will skip the VO every time because it gives me bad Ned Beatty in "Deliverance" flashbacks.
When I was still playing, the class quests were interesting, but the side quests started to get old after level 10. I found it most annoying when I would need to turn in several quests and I found myself hanging out in NPC areas listening to all these shallow side-quest stories that I really didn't care about.
I'm no speed-leveler, but there are many times when I just get into the flow of the gameplay and I want to keep playing. I did not like having my experience interrupted for silly stories all the time. I noticed this in flashpoints too. Here you are, all amped up for combat, and then you end up in these long winded stories that sound like something out of a teenager Star Wars book. It broke my momentum.
I know some of you like this aspect of it, but it's not for me. I really did enjoy the main class quests being voiced though. When you have a longer story arc to deal with the VO quests make more sense to me.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
I like some voice acting, it is a great way to set the mood.
Too many of them is just annoying though. Same thing with cutscenes, talking with every NPC I see kinda annoys me.
But I still have no problem with TOR because of it, it is a Bioware game and it doesn't really fit me but many people like these things and there should be a MMO for them as well.
I personally think that the talking Vs action was perfect in Neverwinter nights, it has gotten a bit much for me personally now but many of my friends love it and they deserve a game as much as me.
One of the funniest quests for me so far is on Hutta, an old couple wants you to pick up some power converters. The dialogue between the couple was hilarious IMO. Reminded me of Marie and Frank from Everybody loves Raymond. Plus I melt everytime I hear Cat Taber's voice.
I havent got far in yet, but so far the voice overs seem awful. The dialogue is cheesy, and my menu choices dont give me a clear idea of what Im going to say.
I listen to them all. You are doing yourself a dis-service if you don't in my opinion since this game plays much like a movie. Sure some parts of the story are generic, but so is every movie.
I listen to it all, and is the only game I have given a crap about the story since FFXI. I know alot of haters will say that alot of it is masked go kill 10 rats shit. Well guess what I actually know why I m killing them and find it cool on alot of them why I am.
This ^^^^
I was playing Skyrim the other days. The quests are not very different in nature from WOW or TOR. You can, in fact, classify them:
- kill quests .. whether it is 10 rats, or that bandit leader in that cave.
- fed ex quests .. take item A to NPC B
- talk quests ... talk to NPC X
- crafting quests ... make item X and come back to talk to NPC Y
- explore quest ... go to location X
The only difference is the presentation. Skyrim has full voice/animation and makes everything more alive. The actual action requires for the quest are not very different.
So my conclusion is that polish and presentation are the most important factors in quest creation.

Actually, I find quests in Skyrim vastly different from traditional MMO quests. Where as in most MMO a kill quest simply sent you to a field full of creatures to attack, in Skyrim, you had to explore dungeons and do a few other things like puzzles or sneak or gather more information. Skyrim was less direct to the point. It was not quite as linear as tradiontal MMO. SWTOR, though it has a nice presentation, still sends you out on a pretty linear adventure. Where ever the creature/s are, they will pretty much always be there. Skryim's creatures will not always appear in the same, thus encouraging you to take non-linear actions.
Its what keeps me coming back for more it has removed any feeling of grind as I feel like I'm helping or hindering someone in the world. It also adds to my immersion which unlike others makes me feel the world in alive. So i listen to all dialogue Alien or English.

I stopped giving a damn after hearing the same recycled fucking line time and time again.
Which line is that?
I listen to them all, dont seem to recall the same exact line in any of them. Maybe 'For the Republic!' a couple times but recycled time and time again? Can you direct me to said line please?

I doubt you get that as a Jedi.

For major storyline quests I am usually listening. For random kill X, fetch Y quests, I am usually not listening.

Some of these have been the most interesting IMO.

I listen first time but if I'm repeating with an alt I spacebar through them.
The voice acting is what I really like about the game. You actually want to read all that?
