So, they definately no. I got flamed to crap for it though, what's wrong with those kids?! How can i raise a fecking ticket when it's not me and i don't know how to do it, which i explained. Sums that community up.
See, now THIS is something that you should get banned for. I can't believe that after all the drama that went on about the bans of the folks farming chests in Illum, this happens. I'm betting that the "economy corruption" caused by the chest farming is child's play compared to this.
I'd imagine they'll be caught, and of courswe plead 'innocence' all over the net!
Pretty sure - like most other major games - Bioware will have the ability to track credits - and remove them whereever they end up. While I have no experience with this in SWTOR - I have had it happen in both Rift and WOW - on more than one occasion in WOW I've even had temporary locks because I move so much money around - it's gone so far as money being removed from an alt guild bank after some transactions with my main and an apparent 'shadey' AH account.
I had no problems with it since the trace was explained to me. We'll have to see what Bioware does with this. Frankly - the people abusing it should be banned - but I'd be all in favor for blocking the exploit, and then waiting until after the first cycle bills and THEN banning anyone who exploited!
So, they definately no. I got flamed to crap for it though, what's wrong with those kids?! How can i raise a fecking ticket when it's not me and i don't know how to do it, which i explained. Sums that community up.
Dude - you can send a ticket in through the website - I've done it multiple times. Just go to the support area, and it's pretty self-explanatory. You don't even need specifics - just explain it in as much detail as you can. It seems you get a faster response that way than ingame tickets anyways (at least for me anyways)
Knowing the general maturity level of some gamers - I'd never start a thread about an exploit - sincew you are guarenteed to have people trying it simply because of the posts
*Edited to add that I wouldn't worry about any thread asking for 'moderation' of a poster. If they were going to do anything - you wouldn't have gotten the polite 'post removal' letter - the ban would have been immediate. The person asking for the ban though will get a warning
Hello Zorbie, We recently removed a thread you made on the forums about the economy exploit. We appreciate your report of this potential game issue, and assure you we have escalated it to the correct individuals. However, we do not allow discussion of issues like this one on the forums in order to prevent other players from discovering and potentially abusing the information. Thanks again for your report!
Can't knock that, that's fair enough...
..but can they bring servers down a third time tonight?
I think they won't, maybe one of these days. What they can do is make a post warning people not to do this though, and how they may force choke your account if you will.

If you do that, some guy would start working on it to fix it.
If you start a thread, you have everyboy in Bioware losing their heads to fix it ASAP.

Exactly. I agree the video was an error, i deleted the link fast. But, Same goes for real life:
If i have a problem with a company and ring them, i get a "we will look into it". If i say i will ring up the governing body/regulator...or make it public...it's sorted that moment
They need to do a patch pronto though and they will get crap for bringing down a 3rd day in row lol.
Is this really an issue? Because the economy in this game is not all that important as you can get most of your gear from quests anyway. So what do you need alot of credits for?

Yeah, I know, and pretty much all MMO launches have someone dupping gold or cheating somewhere and most games survive them as long as the Dev's take action.
Pretty much this. The degree to which they get out of control can really cripple a game and the perception of it stunningly fast. Most of the high end power guilds have a nack for finding issues like these and just milking the hell out of this to get an unfair advantage. I remember in Age of Conan right after release, the power guilds were exploiting raid bosses like mad literally farming months worth of epic loot in a single night by cascading the raid lockout timer mechanic.
The devs really need to get on top of this immediately, and crush the accounts of those who do this. Fixing the problem alone is not enough because these people will still have the gains from cheating the system. If they don't undo the damage or ban the accounts, it will send a message to the players that they are weak on cheaters and it will eat the game like virus, as we have seen in some other MMOs.
What is exactly the exploit. Im not seeing the problem?
I heard that when the USA created the dollar, first thing the UK (which wanted the USA to keep using british money) did was send ships with money printing machines. They printed masses of counterfeit dollars and gave them to people for free. Why did they do that ? To create inflation, i.e. send the prices soaring, and thus give a bad name to the dollar. It worked, though not well enough. The dollar still exists.
Its actually quite easy to understand: one person has found a way to get a LOT of money - counterfeit dollars from brits in the old USA, or finding a money exploit in any MMO. Next thing he does is buy everything he wants, no matter the price.
Now the sellers mention that they sell everything no matter the price - but the demand is still high. Thus they raise the price. They themselves also get relatively rich, so they themselves can now buy things no matter the price.
The endstatus is an economy where prices have been raised over the board, i.e. inflation. Normal players can no longer afford these prices, because they, unlike those who did the exploit, do not have more money than before.
Godbuying / goldselling in games has pretty much the same effect to money exploits, only not as drastic and in such short time.
A major countermeasure against this is to have every player gain access to sellable goods, all the time. So even if the prices go up, so does the income of the player.
Another countermeasure is fixed prices. You can sell goods always only at a certain price. You still have the problem of shortage though, and you will get a black market.

Ahh, well it's not exactly just credits, but commendations. But really, just think of consumables (meds, stims, etc on permanent), rare AH items, ship upgrades, containers, VIP access lol.
Not as major as some games, but everything has a price in the end.

Quest gear is almost always inferior greens, often a couple levels behind you. I choose comms almost every time, and even those usually only get you blues.

Oh I see, so they could use the commendations to buy items and then sell the items to get credits?

I assume so. It wasn't clear to me what kind of commendations they were, so i'm not sure what you can get for them. I haven't even found a comms vendor at all myself lol, but still, you could buy the most expensive items, then just sell them back for credits i assume.
Oh I see, so they could use the commendations to buy items and then sell the items to get credits?
Yep. But I'm pretty sure comm items are BoA, so it's only vendor trash. And if I'm guessing right on how comms are being duped, it seems to me it would take as much time to go to that trouble as it would to aquire gear the normal way.
Edit to add: seems to me the only advantage to duping is that you could load your toons with blue gear from comms rather than having to buy stuff from auction.

I'm not sure how quickly they can dupe these comms, but if they can create tons of them very fast, then they could probably make decent money just buying comm items en masse and selling them to vendors.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
EA's policy in UO at least is 'Don't talk about exploits' and they will fix it in their time which might be months.
I'd imagine they'll be caught, and of courswe plead 'innocence' all over the net!

Of course, I'm evil that way !

Everybody cut, everybody cut... everybody cut Footloose!!!
You're not getting the exploit from these boards.
Let's just say the problem is a MMO-game with inflated or nonexistent economy.
some guy has started a thread asking me to be permabanned for raising the possibility of an exploit, without any explaination how its done.

My brand new bloggity blog.
Nevermind. I can see the exploit now. its coming to me in the form of a picture.
