Wow, never heard someone getting banned for making too much money, unless they got it through some exploit which is not the case for you.

But then again, what do you need all that money for anyway? Or are you just doing it because you are bored?

Agree with Niko 100%. If you lied about your innocence enjoy your ban. As for the 1 lingers... yes game that lets exploits run wild is a Piece of shit and if its protective and defensively over exploits and gold farmers... also a piece of shit. Are you ever approving?

Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.

Yeah it was Sony, not E.A., doh!! Anyways, Verant Interactice Inc developed the game, Sony ended up controlling it and destroying it...same that EA will do with this BioWare game!

Some people love to play virtual economies. I normally like your posts but is the stuff in red a serious question? LOL

The problem with threads like this its very hard to know if its true or not . I know quite a few people that are playing the AH but not one of thems not been banned . I can only assume if it is the OP is either omitting something or hes been very unlucky but I'm sure if he is indeed innocent the ban will be lifted . I've been playing mmos for years by various different developers . I've never been banned in any mmo but then again I've never done anything silly .

It is, because I am kind of curious what you need money for when you are at cap in this game? I mean the best gear he should be getting from raiding and/or PvP and there is no housing or such so what would you need all that money for?

Not really relevant for his ban which I think most would agree is absurd, but like I said just curious.

I cant buy EA games even if I want to, coz for some reason my country is the only country not listed in origin. Every possible company have us  listed except EA, for some bizarre reason we dont exist for them...

if this is legit, then i say it is ridiculous to ban people for this. I've seen people doing trades like that in almost every game with or without auction house.

Please Yamota, are you one of the BW team investigating this issue? Or are just talking crap? How do you know this is not the case for him? Ohh yeah, he said so and you dislike mmo's, SWTOR, EA etc   :P

While I agree they should implement a more sophisticated system to weed out the farmers while preserving those who simply play the market, your OP and title are largely misleading. Your account was not banned, but placed under investigation. Such will determine if your manners of acquiring credits were in accordance with the game's policies or not, but if your story is indeed veritable, then you should have little reason to feel distressed.

Some people just like to play economies in games. Who knows what it is? Maybe they simply are the personality type that wants more - more money IRL, more sex IRL, more shoes, clothes IRL etc and that translates into virtual relaities as well.

Maybe it's their thing... they're not successful/interested in PvP but they are successful in playing mathematical gambles in the Auction House.

Maybe they do it because it's riskier and harder to do in real life. Not everyone can play the stock market and make millions. MMOs allow a vicarious experience to simulate that reality.

I don't play the AH like some people, but there definitely is a rush to opening your mailbox full of gold knowing that your stuff sold. There's a certain satisfaction in knowing that I am sitting on X amount of money even if I don't ever need it. There's a certain thrill in undercutting someone and outselling them. Or finding a good deal and "ripping off" somebody else by selling it at a higher price.

Basic human nature I guess. Games like EVE are built on these concepts of economy. It's a different sort of PvP.

No they banned "people" who took low levels to high level areas to farm credits from high level chests and crafting nodes and then sold the money they made for real cash.  They didn't ban low levels who went to Ilum to poke around.

So YES they did ban low level characters for doing the work of going into a higher level area to loot some high level stuff. Sorry but thats normal procedure on any mmorpg, its laughable that thats a bannable offense. It's supposed to be an open world if they didn't want someone to do something they shouldn't have made it possible.

Just so you can read better then you seem to be able to via normal text. That red text there states that they were banning people that took low level charactters to higher areas to farm  chests, nods, and then sell the credits or items for real money. Now read that again they banned people that were using game machanics to gain crdits or items that they were selling for real money not more credts. The bannable offense is the fact they were selling credits or items for money, which is a bannable offence on largely any game you play. But good job on your selective reading skills, as well as zelous attitude of twisting the facts to suit yoru aims.

This whole business sounds weird to me, some people do play MMOs because they anjoy playing the market and if they aren't cheating they have the full right of doing so.

Many of the old school MMOs actually encouraged this and I know many crafters that together with crafting love that type of gameplay.

I don't have the patience myself but my EQ2 guild was very small and lived on a few players who were great on getting status and money, that shouldn't be a banning offence, particularly without any warning. After all is MMOs today plenty farming so forbidding people to do that successfully kinda takes away a lot of the game.

I wonder if OP didn't unknowingly do some kind of exploit or something, Bioware can't be this stupid.

  • Thomas2006Thomas2006 Member RarePosts: 1,152

It's too hard to say what is and isnt going on. They just last patch fixed a exploit where you could easily dupe items via the AH.

I am sorry but as has been shown and proven many times on the forums you can't go by just one side of the story. So until I hear the other side I will refrain from jumping to any conclusions. For all I know you could have bought abunch of credits off a credit site and then are trying to mask the trail by playing the AH. Or you could have just as easily used the AH to dup abunch of items / continue to do so.

Just because your lvl 50 and valor 60 (I am also) doesnt mean anything as far as to how you aquired that many credits.

If you didnt do anything wrong then they will lift the temp ban.

Banned for playing?  Nice.  Next thing you know, you'll be banned for putting in to many hours,  to many titles, etc.  Guess we know now not to spend our money on TOR.

This is the problem with these kinds of threads. Your misleading OP and thread title lead people to believe you were banned when in reality your account was placed under investigation. Now you have trolls and haters swarming up and using this opportunity to bash the game. Moderators should step in and rectify your OP before more of this crap is spewed across these forums.

Technically were they merged into what became SOE a lot earlier so kinda, but few devs from Verant worked on SWG.

It is pretty much like saying Blizzard did Diablo, technically were Blizzard North that made Diablo more or less their own company and I don't think D3 have any devs from the original game even.  Blizzard North were in many ways similar to Verant.

Except with SoE they still have Smedley who was the brains of Verant. Regardless of what people think about Smedley now, he was instrumental in making EQ happen.

His account is still locked and depending how long this investigation takes and how thorough it might as well be a ban.

Make games you want to play.

*Yawn* another of these threads oh boy.......

Why is it every other week there is a thread of this or that person being banned has anyone actually bothered to look at the official forums and see that Stephen actually posted that these claims are bogus besides the Illum guy and he was warned multiple times.....

Now as for this ban I don't know one way or another but I don't just buy he was banned for buying and selling on the auction house there was more to it there had to be and anything you say isn't gonna change my mind on that.....

I've bought and sold plenty on my 50 and never once have been banned for buying low level items and reselling them.....

I've played the AH to a much more modest degree in WoW and Aion. I had a WoW GM ask me questions, but there was never any action against me. I did, however, have a number of players take time to bitch at me. I'd stress that I was a pretty minor player on the AH and never accumulated massive amounts of currency, but a few players were offended enough to comment and I'm sure that one WoW GM questioned me in response to a complaint by another player.

As long as you never "donated" large amounts of cash to other players, you will probably be reinstated after the investigation. If not, the Bioware really will need to post guidelines on what they do and do not consider legitimate levels of wealth accumulation.

That's the thing and what will be this game's ultimate undoing. They DO NOT have any GM's!

There is a TAB in the game for Live InGame Chat, but it's still greyed out and always has been!

They only have regular CSR's with absolutely NO Power whatsoever to help people INGAME!

For such an expensive MMO project..... it surely has EA written all over it, with skimping on everything they can skimp on, like decent and adequite Customer Support, with INGAME GM's we have come to expect with MMO's for many years already.

So what the OP is telling, doesn't suprise me one single bit! As a GM could have simply contacted the player in question ingame to investigate economy suspicions, instead of just Ban First! Ask later! approach they do now.

  • FlaebFlaeb Member Posts: 91

You're not banned. As someone said, they most likely have a system where if they see a player that reached "X" amount of credits in "Y" amount of time, they investigate. I'm sure they will open your account back. Is it fair to you? No, and I'm sorry for that, but hear them out first, maybe they will compensate. I'M HOPING thats the case. Good luck!
