Is any one else finding that questing with thier companion makes the game too easy ?

I like this game but I find the mobs are far too easy to kill with the companion . Its a major reason why I eventually left WoW because I like some challenge in an mmo . Most of the time I either dismiss him or send him off on missions . I think had they placed the two sides in each others paths earlier on in the game I would have seen some use for the companions while leveling but given that doesn't happen they seem to make the game a cake walk if you use then .

On a side note why didn't they introduce random space battles while travelling from one planet to another in a similar sort of way you get in Dragon Age ? It is StarWars for god sake a franchise where a huge amount of the action takes place in space .

I'm enjoying this game for what it is but so much that could have been done and should have been done seems to have been overlooked and it appears to be another mmo which offers easy mode game play while questing .

Actually, no. As a combat medic, I'm not finding things too easy even with my companion. That's not to say things are hard, but I do die some and I have to heal us up from near death after every fight involving a silver or above mob.

And my gear is topped up.

But it could just be that I suck.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Nope, content is pretty much intended to be run with a companion. However, few classes could perhaps run some of it without a companion. Content gets more difficult as you progress further.

I play as a Guardian, on the Republic side.. and I can say, I can easily solo most monsters Elite and below..  having my companion (Either my DPS Kira, or Healer Doc) makes me fly through zones.  I've been soloing every single flashpoint I have access too.

I can say, that I am very well equipped, and a Biochem - I can pop a stimpack and heal up myself and my pet if its needed.. but the game is fairly easy.  PvP is a joke as a well equipped Guardian.  Ive got so much armor and damage that I can laugh off any melee based class trying to attack me.

It depends of your level. After lvl 30 the game became a lot more difficult even with companion.

If you check official forums you will find a lot of people complaints about that. Of course that is applicable if you don't outlevel the enemies by 4-5 lvls.

I'm rather sorry that they made this game pretty much unplayable without a companion.

You are not "forced" to take your companion with you to quest. You CAN dismiss them at any time.

Secondly, what level are you playing at? At low levels, mobs are somewhat easy. Once you pass level 20 and then 30 they get more difficult. I solo when my friends are not on with a different character. I am level 39 at the moment. I an fighting mobs that are 3 to 4 levels below me (35 to 36) and they are a challenge even with my companion.

Doesn't seem any different to me than any other game when you play a pet class.  Which is essentially what all of the classes are in this game.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Heh sorry but I would say you are bsing or thinking you're better than the character design. There are many posts that go against what you say and I have a guardian myself and biochem and no, you still can not solo flashpoints that are your level (that's absurd to say the least), and heroic 4's aren't soloable either. Heroic 2's, yes, most of the time.

The mobs become progressively harder the higher level you go. It's not something you really notice until you suddenly find yourself struggling and don't quite know why. But they have said all along that difficulty rises as you level, so yeah, things are meant to be pretty easy at your level.

It's not too easy if you're stubborn about your companion picks! Picking a DPS companion when you're a paper tiger yourself can be really rough when fighting gold elite mobs in your story. The game wants you to use your tank or healer companion, but I tend to use the ones I feel fit my character best.

I was pretty much doing the same thing until I got into the level 40s. My character is a JK sentinel and for the most part I used Kira, but when I got into the level 40s she just wasn't viable for the tougher fights anymore.

I'm noticing the same thing, but I'm only level 29 with my sentinel lol. Its been easy so far (basically up until tattoine), maybe because up until Alderran, I was always 2-3 levels higher. Now Im one level higher or the mobs are around the  same level and Im noticing a big difference, especially when Im fighting two strongs and a 3rd, or an elite coupled with a normal one next to him. Still using Kira. I may try the healer or the the droid, but then Ill have to upgrade all of their armor and weapons because I haven't used them for so many levels. :-(

I tend to stick to the character I WANT to have with me (to gain affection) and most classes allow for you to do that...  for example, my Male - Neutral Scoundrel keeps Risha with him at all times (she's DPS) and it does make for some tougher encounters,  but as a heal spec scoundrel, we got by to max level.

Post 30 it does get much tougher - too even if you have the most ideal setup such as, being a tank, and having a healer companion,  you'll still run into the various mission or two that tests your class skill.  Also, in comparison,  a healer and tank match up at the high levels kills incredibly slow, and sometimes you may opt for the tougher choice just to get through the content faster.

Not really.. There's a moment when I enjoy having my companion to get trough some stupid quests fast, but main story line usually requires more skill and is a lot harder to pass even with companion.

Definitely gets more difficult past level 30.

The final part to my JK class storyline in Act 1 was a bit tough. I had to rest after each pull.

Yeah I've found companions made it easy.Id find myself dismissing them most of the time and only bringing him in when I'm facing an elite or my group needs a tank.
  • MeltdownMeltdown Member UncommonPosts: 1,183

Yea i would disagree with the OP. Some companions its impossible, playing Commando as DPS if I pick a DPS companion he will die almost every fight against strong/elites at my lvl (mid 40s) and my DPS seems quite good. Using the healer companion makes stuff better, but I still die occasionally if I accidentally pull 2-3 groups at once. Think I died last night accidentally pulling 3 strongs.

I think part of the reason people think stuff is so easy is because they are used to fighting things one-on-one like in WoW, and in SWTOR you kill things 3-5 at a time. However this is just how the game is made and is done so to make you feel more powerful.

As i level i find the companion is almost a requirement.

Sometimes i started to think the companion isn't enough but, my main will get some great gear and things improve, then things get a little more challenging again but the companion will get some great gear, then it's easier, but we both go dry on upgrades and notice we die more but then the companion will get some great gear upgrades and then the main, things are easy feeling again. Rinse/Repeat

On my BH i don't group at all as i find grouping shoots you way past single player content curve, so if you are way above the curve well... of course it's super easy, new quest series i "start" out on are orange.

Gotta love Mako's healing making you almost invincible against most fights.

I'd rather not spend a lot of time fighting random mobs and spend more time fighting the mobs that are central to the various story lines, which is how it seems to work out for me. I'd rather follow the story (since it actually exists) than spend all my time thinking about the fighting. It's an mmorpg...the fighting is only going to get so interesting.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I think if you want a challenge, do the Heroic 2+ quests with just you and your companion.

  • BossalinieBossalinie Member UncommonPosts: 724

I rolled healing Operative and primary still use my BH (tank mode). It's still the best fit for me being that she is a beast at holding aggro. I do enough combination of CC, damage, and healing to earn the upper hand on most fights and gold npcs.

I don't really do so well with Vector and my other operative comp. Vector is awesome as a DPS yet very squishy. We tend to own dps races, but even elites give us trouble.

As for the doctor...two healing operatives = long time to kill mobs. His beast mode is a decent DPS, but he doesn't hold aggro. Also, this might be a bug, but if you open on amne enemy from stealth while he's in beast mode, he automatically switches back in to healing...aggrovating.
