Well.......My opinion is this game should be B2P

TillerTiller Member LegendaryPosts: 11,488

Ok I’ve been silent about this for too long and it is time to fess up……..

I think TOR would do better with the B2P model TBH (at this point anyways). Perhaps instead of “free” and rather weak content additions that folks can blow through in a few hours, just do add on packs like GW1 did and GW2 will.

Before you start in on me.....I was one of the O.G. TOR fans, not a hater or troll .

I've been watching SWTOR since 2006 when I first caught wind BioWare was making an MMO, I was beating the “this is a Star Wars MMO” drum in thier old forums before many of you even knew BioWare was making an MMO. I even have a char ingame named after me xD

I’ve played through a few builds in beta, I pre-ordered day 1 and I bought the CE; fought off the haters who bash for the sake of hyping their own game up as well. I've been a dedicated fan; but tbh I think this game would be better suited to follow the same path as GW2 based on their similarities; but of course EA and BW think otherwise. I stated this on the official forums; but of course most people hate that idea I guess so did BW.

I'm not sure why, and I hate to say this but I think BW is about to get a massive head bonk...I'm actually considering hitting that cancel button, but can't bring myself to do it because I told myself I would give it a few months. Honestly I can't justify paying to play this game beyond 2 months. I'm getting bored and why? Even the folks in my guild find it painful to level an alt, and just do it like taking that bitter medicine minus the spoon full of sugar. My server is pretty busy, always heavy, and most weekends a queue to get in 15 min or so. So people are playing, but what are they doing to keep busy? Rolling alts that's what, painfully I might add.

I've played many themepark MMos and enjoyed them all longer than this. I guess it should have been a sign towards the end of SWTOR beta when I felt less inclined to play, but blamed it on the fact that I didn’t want to ruin too much of the story. That right there should be a clue, when the story is the only glue holding this game together there is a problem.

Heck even the guy at my work that plays on my server has gotten burnt out, and he was playing more than me. I’ve noticed my friend list go dark the last few weeks; right around when people hit 40 or so.

Why?

I can’t put my finger on why this game just feels so abysmal to me, but I hope they fix it because I really wanted to see it kick the crap out of all those other games out there, but at this point the only thing keeping it a float for me is “Star Wars”.  I’m sure it will get better, I hope…

You can argue, it hasn’t been long enough; this is the first month……but I will then counter with…uhh should I be able to fully level to end game playing casually within my trial month and feel like I just got run over by a steamroller of storytelling and left sitting in the middle of the road shaking off the dizziness with Rakgouls swirling above my head saying “whoa, what just happened ? that was weird”

Should this game be buy to play? Yes

why? Because this is the point I feel like I'm just wasting money if I keep my sub active for something I won't feel inlcined to play that much.

go ahead and say I told ya so.....but wait...

I don’t feel bad about purchasing the game.... but maybe I should considering I kept the preorder up with the hopes that the live game would eventually get better. I can say the same thing about WoW (for me anyways) when it first launched, didn't like it...they have made it into a decent game over the years...themepark and all. Can TOR do this and still charge monthly for it? We shall see. Other games that I once played have not...TOR may suffer that same fate. I hope it stays a float though.

Give me a reason to pay 14.99 EVERY month for this BioWare, from now into the next 6 months

tldr; I think this game should be buy to play because it gets too boring after a few weeks of playing to justify paying for a month of game play, even with regular updates .

Maybe just maybe you should break the habit of playing at day 1. It would solve a lot of your issues and avoid future ones.

Would of been awesome if it were B2P.

Least I'd buy it and wait for ability delays and what not to be fixed.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

Stay for the legacy system? Maybe the alt-ing will become bearable...

Meh, not really an ideal situation --

But regardless, I don't care whether its B2P or P2P or anything really...  the stigma we all have over these types of models is going to go away soon enough.  All I care about is whether or not I have fun playing... costs are secondary.  If I like to play something I'll pay for it... or not.

I have to agree with the OP.  I think what it boils down to is you are paying a monthly fee for the priviledge of playing in the Star Wars universe.  The game is what it is, and while it's not my cup of tea, I understand the appeal.   The issue I think is that even if you forget about the fact GW2 is coming, there are a lot of other games in the MMO space that feature the same exact gameplay that don't require a fee to play (granted many of them at one point charged then were forced to switch).

I think going forward, you are going to see that the price to play a themepark game will be free to play.  It's the same for MOBAs.   We had a bunch of MOBAs opn the market, League of Legends is free to play, so to justify paying money for the same game experience when you get can it free elsewhere is hard to justify.

The problem I think ultimately is the end game as the OP pointed out.   Rerolling an alt is not really my idea of end game content, although it seems that Bioware was betting on this to an extend because they want you to experiences the various stories.   The problem is that aside from switching sides, the you will be playing through a lot of the same content over again, which is kind of a bore.

In their defense they seem to have an update of some sort coming out fairly quickly all things considered, and if they are somehow able to keep real content coming out in patches that occur on a monthly basis, then maybe you could say the fee is justified.   This remains to be seen though given that the game is only around a month old.

Bioware might have considered it B2P....but we are talking aobut EA here.  This is their baby, not Biowares.  They love money, so they will milk this game as much as possible.  Its ok though, for now I am willing to pay because I find it fun, but doubt I will remain subbed once GW2 releases.  So we can only hope EA will adapt once GW2 releases.

Well maybe, this is the first game I ever played from day 1. I would always wait a few months for most other games because of this reason.

Not playing on day 1 won't solve TOR's problems. It should be B2P, just like KOTOR 3 would have been. It doesn't warrant a sub, as an MMO it is so mediocre it hurts. It's the story, it's Star Wars, ok, but it's not the MMO that people are going to want to pay that sub for for years to come.

On the contrary it's very much an ideal situation. Less chance of SWTOR fatigue and possibly more new content before boredom sets in once you do re-subscribe.

lets take the OP as an example. It really sounds like he slept with the game. Played the heck out of it during beta and continued at launch. Here's a novel idea. Don't participate in betas and wait a month or two after release for the game to knock its kinks out. I don't see why that's not ideal. People just don't want to do it because part of enjoying this genre, is to try and re-live that first time high new feeling, just like a junkie. The feeling can't come soon enough.

U ill not see me there anyway...

They could learn a lot from Turbine.

I bought the lifetime membership for Lotro, and while I take breaks from it I always buy the expansions, reacquaint myself with the game, get hooked into the guild side of things and stay longer than I planned.

It sounds like Bioware are going to soon discover what a ravenous, disloyal beast are the current MMO customers. I genuinely hope they find a way to manage it.

Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe

I have many of those same complaints. I'm fed up with the quests outside personal storylines. As soon as I land on a new planet I dread going through it's content.

Having said that. The WoW clone comment is over-used. If you are tired of the model shown in TOR then you may as well quit or play indie sandbox games. The fedex/kill x quests seem to be here to stay. Same with the holy trinity. May as well pack your bags and head south because the weather is not changing here anytime soon.

I suspect GW2 will be a refreshing change but that too will grow old and boring quick regardless of what everyone thinks.

Yeah today I went and searched out some resources to see how that game is progressing, as well as what all the hype is about with archeage and tera. Not sure either of those will be that fantastic. I'm thinking GW2 might be a nice game to supplement SWTOR, since I can come and go as I choose without a subscription to make me feel obligated to play.

Hence why I didn't stay in BETA long. I played just long enough to see that this was what I wanted and stopped. Didn't want to burn myself out on the game before it was even released.

I've been playing since release and have only hit 26 on one of my characters. I've just been having so much fun exploring every planet and doing all the quests so my level time will take longer than it will for those who play these games for 8 hours a day grinding missions. For me, this is the first MMO that made the leveling process fun and actually worth the grind. If a game doesn't make that part fun then I could care less about what is at end game because I won't be around to experience it. It's also the most stable MMO I've seen at launch which is more than I can say for the supposed great old school games that are trumpeted around here.

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

If the game is good then you will not get burned out on it, like SWG was for me. played it from July 2003 to Dec 16th 2011, and could have still played it and played it 24/7 until I died, and still not get burned out on it.

WIll have to see how this game does when Mass Effect 3 comes along, a BW Sci-Fi game with story driven quests and with multiplayer options, and no need for monthly fees.

That's because you are stuck in an era that, unfortunally for you has evolved. I played EQ for over 4 years and haven't even gotten close to playing one MMO for that long. Yet I moved on and so can you.

You will never get that feeling back. You have two choices. Either get with the program or hit the refresh button on the front page everytime a new MMO is released so you can slam it for not giving you that nostalgic feeling back. Your choice

Here's a reason why this game is worth a sub for you. Less than one month after launch, when not a single persons sub has kicked in, they are already releasing their first content patch.

    Shadow's Hand Guild
    Open recruitment for

    The Secret World - Dragons

    Planetside 2 - Terran Republic

    Tera - Dragonfall Server

Men, we wil get content updates for swtor almost every single month, can u imagine how much do we  will have to pay for DLCs with a B2P model?. 1.1 is tomorrow, then in march we will have the 2nd content patch and is just the beginning

Men, we wil get content updates for swtor almost every single month, can u imagine how much do we  will have to pay for DLCs with a B2P model?. 1.1 is tomorrow, then in march we will have the 2nd content patch and is just the beginning

The problem is that new content will be just as static as the current content is.

Your choice

I have no probelms with any other MMO except SWTOR. It is just severly lacking. All it has is story driven quests that Mass Effect 3 will provide. It needs more side stuff like Beast Master, creature harvesting, story creation tools,  free roam space. All other MMOs provide this in one way or another except SWTOR.

All other MMOs provide vestige harvesting and story creation tools? Maybe you've just played SWG superniceguy, but they don't. Sorry.

Yep, more down time stuff. All there is to do is craft. Also like someone said in another thread, more dynamic stuff would be nice if you class story turned dynamic as well and going opposite lightside/darkside meant something more, like different quests, planets, NPC making your class more fun to play.
