Men, we wil get content updates for swtor almost every single month, can u imagine how much do we will have to pay for DLCs with a B2P model?. 1.1 is tomorrow, then in march we will have the 2nd content patch and is just the beginning
The problem is that new content will be just as static just as the current content is.
Patch 1.1 notes from the official site are bug fixes and changes to current mechanisms (tweaks as they are called).
Only "content" comparable to DLC would be Kaon Under Siege flashpoint and that is with really big would. Because if someone would release DLC with only one dungeon, they would be called mad and greedy.
IF YOU ENJOY THE GAME SUBSCRIBE IF NOT UNSUBSCRIBE AND MOVE
If you aren't enjoying the game don't keep playing it, you aren't doing a favor to anyone keeping yourself that way and you are burning yourself out. The current high population in my server is around Lvl 25-35. In another 2 months should be a lot of people in lvl 50 and probably by then some of the end game issues should be solved.
Did you really just write a full page of text trying to justify the impossible? Are you going to jump in the way-back machine and use your post to try and convince Bioware in 2007 the game should be B2P? I'm pretty sure it ain't happenin.
Development began December 2005 :-p
Actually I know I can't change anything, it's just me venting and stating my opinion, I'm sure things will be different in a year so, perhaps even my opinion. The fact remains, it's getting harder for other games beyond WoW to justify charging monthly fees these days. Whether BioWare will be successful long term is yet to be seen.

All other MMOs provide vestige harvesting and story creation tools? Maybe you've just played SWG superniceguy, but they don't. Sorry.
I meant they have some kind of other systems to tinker with other than story based quests, and did not mean everything listed, especially mainstream MMOs
EQ2, WOW, City of Heroes, STO, Vanguard, EVE, LOTRO all do, and that is where I will keep playing to get my fixes.
Without these things, SWTOR is going to be like Mass Effect 3 and not anything like the above MMOs worth subbing to.
SWTORs next patch is just more quest driven content, which will be able to be done in a day or two. May as well wait and for more content patches and then do them.
If they added in a story creation tool, or something like this, then I would be in game daily, subbing constantly creating quests for other people to do, in between the content they dish out.
I guess EA;/Bioware do not want that many subs. Obviously not everybody like this stuff, but those that do will just go elsewhere. There is plenty of quest driven stuff in SWTOR, it needs more variety.
Maybe just maybe you should break the habit of playing at day 1. It would solve a lot of your issues and avoid future ones.
Well maybe, this is the first game I ever played from day 1. I would always wait a few months for most other games because of this reason.
1. Never buy a game until you've had a chance to play it live (it's astonishing the changes that can occur between the last beta and live). This means never pre-order.
2. Unless you want to deal with the buggiest time in a game, don't play for the first couple of months, or the first month of an expansion. The former is easy when you follow rule 1.
I'd say modern AAA MMOs make the bulk of their profit from hype alone. These games aren't races- you won't miss out on something just because you didn't play from day 1. Well, okay, you'll miss out on the worst bugs, patches that completely change how your toons play (nerfed or buffed due to PvP usually), and general population issues as the [m]asses that can't possibly wait a second longer than release to play a new game buy it, play for a bit, realize that they don't like it, and leave. Patience is a virtue.
Least I'd buy it and wait for ability delays and what not to be fixed.
You still can. Just cancel your sub and resubscribe when it's fixed. problem solved
Meh, not really an ideal situation --
But regardless, I don't care whether its B2P or P2P or anything really... the stigma we all have over these types of models is going to go away soon enough. All I care about is whether or not I have fun playing... costs are secondary. If I like to play something I'll pay for it... or not.
On the contrary it's very much an ideal situation. Less chance of SWTOR fatigue and possibly more new content before boredom sets in once you do re-subscribe.
lets take the OP as an example. It really sounds like he slept with the game. Played the heck out of it during beta and continued at launch. Here's a novel idea. Don't participate in betas and wait a month or two after release for the game to knock its kinks out. I don't see why that's not ideal. People just don't want to do it because part of enjoying this genre, is to try and re-live that first time high new feeling, just like a junkie. The feeling can't come soon enough.
canceled my subs after 3weeks... quests all same, planets visually boring, pvp full of lags and worst ever played, I really tried to like it but can't... best of it its Star Wars! worst of it its just WoW clon (I dont like WoW) for me this game is not worth to pay for it.Yee make it B2P! U ill not see me there anyway...
I have many of those same complaints. I'm fed up with the quests outside personal storylines. As soon as I land on a new planet I dread going through it's content.
I agree, many of us are as well. I was fed up with the side-quest from the first one I took in the game. Because I did so many carbon copies of that quest in WoW, Rift, AoC, and Aion.
Having said that. The WoW clone comment is over-used. If you are tired of the model shown in TOR then you may as well quit or play indie sandbox games. The fedex/kill x quests seem to be here to stay. Same with the holy trinity. May as well pack your bags and head south because the weather is not changing here anytime soon.
Why? Just because no one has done anything different in some time? Don't let a few years of dull releases trick you into believing that something better can't be done. Just to put this in perspective, prior to WoW, questing wasn't even a major part of MMORPGs. And as for the holy trinity, it's a big thing in MMORPGs, but it hardly exists in most other game types. And when it does exist, it's rarely as tightly enforced as it is in MMORPGs.
I suspect GW2 will be a refreshing change but that too will grow old and boring quick regardless of what everyone thinks.
Possibly, but this is just a pessimistic way to look at things . GW2 may suck for all I know, but if it does, I'm still going to believe that there can be a good MMORPG released that does a lot of things different.
I guess in summary, I refuse to settle for a game I don't want to play. I don't think this is because I'm "old" or "jaded" or "rushing." I'm pretty sure it's because the games are just dull and repetitive.
OP Im behind you 100%, I completely agree. My guild and I powered through all the content (including hardmodes, working on nightmares atm) within 3 weeks. Our own fault really, we do this with every new MMO, but I feel SWTOR also still has a fighting chance, B2P with expacs, or stay P2P but be a LOT quicker on the updates. Hopefully tonight will shed some light, but I feel tomorrow night we will down the hardmodes of the 4 new bosses as well. Sigh, maybe online gaming is just done for me.

I in the same boat, I've gotten so board that I'm playing Everquest 1 again. Freaking EQ 1... really!?!?! its a 12 year old game (looks like crap) and has 18 Expansions (too much content) and is extremely unfriendly to players.
I play SWTOR to chat with my friends, but I find myself logging in doing a couple dailies, chatting and the logging out an hour later. Then I jump in Everquest and can play all day... Why? because it actually feels like a virtual world with tons of options to look and explore. Sure the game looks like crap, and its extremely antiquated, but hell it actually feels like a WORLD, not just some quests on rails. I have options!
SWTOR, in the teens your in Courasant, in your 20s Talraa, etc... its quest hubs and I'm sick of them. I'm sick of people telling me where and what to do in the MMOs I play. If I wanted a game on rails experience I'd boot up my Xbox and play a console game on it, actually, even those do a better job than current MMOs... Skyrim for example.
In short, I should just sell all my computer games and quit buying these MMOs because they are all the same. Hyped up, and then let down by the same rehashed content. /rant off
Back to playing EQ1, with 3D graphics that will make babies cry, and the worst character animations known to man. Yet, I still like playing it! Go figure.

Lol, another one of these. Theres more grouping in this game then WOW or Rift, with some solo stuff to do when you can t group. People are seeing thats the case in game, they realize the forums are full of crap , just like this one is.
I bought the lifetime membership for Lotro, and while I take breaks from it I always buy the expansions, reacquaint myself with the game, get hooked into the guild side of things and stay longer than I planned.
It sounds like Bioware are going to soon discover what a ravenous, disloyal beast are the current MMO customers. I genuinely hope they find a way to manage it.
I genuinely believe that Bioware don't care about subs. They've made all their money from the huge box sales at exorbitant prices. They've recovered the cost of development two or three times over, I suggest. Anything more is just icing on the cake. That's why I think future expansions might add new flashpoints, dungeons and planets but they'll never add anything to the original gameplay because it's so hardcoded, it's far too expensive and difficult to change.
I guess in summary, I refuse to settle for a game I don't want to play. I don't think this is because I'm "old" or "jaded" or "rushing." I'm pretty sure it's because the games are just dull and repetitive.

I actually think you have a good point. I am not dissapointed with the game as I kinda expected exactly what it has to offer. However I know I will only play 3-4 months tops. And I have already started about 4 alts to keep me going.
The issue with the current model is that the majority of players will drop off around the magic 12 week mark. We all know that once a server empties out the hard core fans are left running around pissed off because there isn't enough people to buy off AH or group for the raids etc. Then its just one massive snow ball affect until the company gives up and goes FTP.
If this was B2P I would definitely be around longer than 3-4 months and would log in for the odd mission and PvP fight and would still use the AH. Population would stay pretty steady and give the game a lived in feel.
They could take their time to release new planets etc and the majority would continue to buy the new releases.
Problem with subscription, even though its not that expensive for me, I hate paying money when I know I might log in once in a while. So for me, I agree with you.
(I shudder when I think about Vanguard at launch. I was running around in a packed world selling loads of items and then one day I logged in and I spent hours trying to see another person...it was eerie...)
After waiting for this game for about 3 years now it just makes me sad that they released a rushed unfinished game that can only be matched by Vanguard's failure. It is nothing more than a expensive single player game with a subscription fee. I have never felt so ripped off as I do with this game. I know for a fact I will never buy anything from Bioware again. Just too many levels of fail.
