Rift: Trion & Rift in 2012

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

With today's exciting news about Trion Worlds' financial health as well as this weekend's Return to Rift event, we wanted to find out more about what 2012 has in store. We had the opportunity to chat with Scott Hartsman about what the future holds both for Rift and for Trion Worlds. Read on and enjoy!

Scott started off by explaining that RIFT remains a live game and a live service. He explained that the numbers from 2011 are a validation of Trion’s mission on these two key elements. Having a strong running live game with a team that listens to and responds to players is critical. Many players have enthusiastically said that the RIFT team continues to improve the game quickly and that devs truly listen to player feedback for improvements. Scott considers this a core part of the live service and the RIFT team has grown because of it.

Great news just resubbed for 6 months.

If they would balance PvP and make PvE harder I'd play it.

I like Trion and Rift is going to be a game I will check in on from time to time, but this interview....was anything new really said in it?  Just seems more like lip service than any preview of the future of Rift.

Well i left because us pvp guys got the backseat big time. And it seems we are still left waiting so i will not resub at this time. Tired of dev's thinking we are minority which is not so atm

Good to hear. Rift has been the only worthwhile AAA mmorpg since DAoC, in my opinion.

Did the two of you talking about PVP even read the paragraph explaining what they are trying to do to fix it? :|

Granted, the soul system makes it a bit hard for them to balance everything but i have faith in the team.

While I ended up quitting the game, I am very happy that they are doing well.  With the amount of content they create for players, they do deserve to succeed.  Dunno if I will try the game out again, but still heres hoping they continue to do well.

I found this bit kinda funny.

I quit Rift 6 months ago mainly because Clerics were the worst tanks by far. I decided to come back for the free 3 days and I find out that Cleric tanks have actually gotten worse. Amazing.

So yeah, Trion ignored class balance 6 months and it looks like they are continuing to ignore class balance. Good for them.

Is snare still on an immunity timer? If so then they haven't done shit to fix PvP.

Good job Trion, I wish you well.

And as usual pvp players as in two billion forum threads whine and moan and hate because surely the only goal of developers is to make them angry. Seriously now, I'm tired of your permanent whining in all threads, give us a break, go play FPS or enjoy pvp in mmo's and stop talking about how broken your class is or the other classes are OP and every game is a pvp failure. Can't you just fuck up once in a while because I'm tired of reading your ignorant BS for years now.

If you are truly looking for a PvP focused MMO.....go back to WoW.  It's all the devs care about...Oh...that, and RAID!!!!!

The pve is extrmeely hard. It took over 2 months for anyone to kill the last boss of hammerknell and it is one of the hardest raids in the past couple years. Much harder than any of the heroic raids that wow has done in the past couple years. Before we all overgeared the dungeons, they would take upwards of 4-6 hours to do a 5 man dungeon.... pve in Rift is in no way easy..

rift is one of the good ones.  i feel that those who played it with an open mind saw a lot of great work by good devs with good ideas.

if the swtor thing doesnt work out it will be my themepark of choice once again.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

    I agree!

I am so tired of hearing PvP this and I want to be an asshat that. Their are many (well not many but) MMO's out there that cater to that crowd. DF, MO, Eve just for starters. I wish one AAA MMO would come out with no PvP at all. Namely TOR. The community there would be so much better without it.

Veering OT I played Rift from beta til about 3 months in. Was a good game but i just get bored easy. I always recomend it to anyone looking for a quality MMO.

Regardless of whether you like the game or not, Trion is "so fast you'll freak" awesome.

its not easy to make every single player happy

try a different class instead of complaining about it

Played this game for the first time yesterday. While it's nothing new they did a good job with regurgitating something like WoW, a much better job then EA did with SWTOR. Much much better, they also crap out content really quickly from what i've heard.

Rift deserved the 3million or so subs SWTOR got initially imo. Anyone who likes WoW should be able to play this no problem, and on max settings with AA on it is also graphically superior in every way.

Good news and i hope they can keep the pace. Still i'm wondering how they do it...since sadly Rift isn't the most populated game.

Been playing last night on that 3 free days, was great fun. It's just a matter of when there'll be another discount and i'll resub.

PS: Considering SWTOR may have been like 6 times more expensive, Trion with their 50mio $ is absolutely putting EA/BW to shame on all levels.

Yep. Game is primarily a PvE game, and an easy such at that.

One impossible raid does not make a game hard. Most of everything else in this game is a breeze, only some of the raids are tough.

So yeah, Trion ignored class balance 6 months and it looks like they are continuing to ignore class balance. Good for them.

    Lets look at something.

Warriors: DPS & Tank (4 DPS & 4 Tank Souls)

Rogues: DPS, Tank, & Support (1 Tank, 1 Support,  & 6 DPS Souls)

    Mage: DPS, Support, & Heals ( 1 Heal, 2 Support, & 5 DPS Souls)

Cleric:  DPS, Heals, & Tank (1 Tank, 3 Heals, & 4 DPS Souls)

Warriors only have 2 roles... it's only logical that they should be really good at them. They're arguably the best Tanks and DPS.

Rogues make both strong DPS and Tank and their Support role is one of the best in the game. The same can be said about the Mage... they bring potent heals and strong DPS and extremely good support.

Clerics however are the only class that can do all 3 parts of the mmo-trinity (Heal, DPS, Tank) and you're complaining because they're not on par with other classes' tanking? As a tank they're just as capable as any other tank... they may not be the best, but they're still very much viable.

While I am not one to advocate making classes weaker or stronger than others in the same role, it is almost impossible to make things equal, could they be closer? Sure, but there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Clerics and Rogues both only have 1 tank soul. I'm no Cleric or Rogue expert, but one would think that in order to get the most out of that role they would put 51 points into their Tank soul. That leaves 15 points to go into either a DPS or Heal/Support soul. Warriors on the other hand have 4 Tank souls... They can distribute ALL 66 points into their tanking souls. Is that why they're better? Maybe, but it sure shouldn't allow them to be worse than the other 2 at that role. One could also argue that Mages are the best support as they have 2 support souls... and Clerics make the best healers because they have 3 healing souls.
