Any one here also feel the same way as me? When I watch the PvP videos of GW2 I don't feel "oh wow that looks SO fun to play".
Why is there only conquest mode for competitive PvP? Yes, I know it's not confirmed BUT they said in several interviews where people ask if conquest is the only PvP form, they answer that Conquest is the only form of PvP at the moment. And that is in Alpha stage, so for you who will say that it's not confirmed that there is only Conquest in competitive PvP. Why would there only be one form of PvP in alfa stage? Everything that is NOT in the game now> talking about ACTUAL content > Will not be in at launch.
My favourite PvP in GW1 was TA>Team Arenas where teams of 4 played pretty much death match and it had one map with kill count. This was so much fun, spent countless hours doing this and made very good friends and arch enemies:P
I guess those of you that have not played GW1 PvP cannot understand how much fun and hard it was though.
But I really hope that Anet will get their brain on and add this.
Comments
Conquest sounds bad and honestly, grinding 4on4 arenas on repeat is also bad.
Just another WoW clone with different art. Waiting for a gem that actually takes world PvP seriously, not arena grind.
From the guild wars 2 homepage:
Now that you know how Conquest works, you probably want to know how we spice it up. We vary this game type by creating important secondary objectives. These can be trebuchets, repair kits, and destructible environments, like those in the Battle of Kyhlo map. In another map, for instance, a secondary objective takes the form of a giant dragon flying overhead, blasting portions of the map and killing players who are fighting below.
Secondary objectives allow us to create an environment where you always understand the basic objectives, no matter which map you're playing, but they also let us create radically different high-level strategies through the unique mechanics of each map.

So it seems that even if they have one mode 'conquest' they can change it up quite abit to offer variety.

Ach, nevermind, other people have already responded to your concerns in other posts that WvWvW is NOT INSTANCED and that you do NOT QUEUE UP for it and it does NOT RESET when you leave, and you just ignored them.
What WoW have you been playing?
This game, alllll the way down to the CORE mechanics, is totally different than wow. Go spread your stuff elsewhere mmk?
The Deep Web is sca-ry.
In terms of PvP. No open world (although, you can pathetically argue WoW has OWPvP), and generic grindy battlegrounds. Even their world vs world vs world is simply a bigger instanced "game", there's no persistence whatsoever. It's like WoW's Alterac Valley on a much larger scale.
Zzz.
Does not reset when I leave? No, but it's a game. It has an objective. Once that objective is completed, the instance (game) ends, and a new one is created.
I didn't ignore anyone, I just don't monitor MMORPG.com forums at all. I post and forget a lot of the times.
Another thing abour competitive PvP in GW2 is the ability of a player to make a match room so you and your friends can form a group together in a team to beat another team who enters your room. I think somehow Arenanet will manage to make it so that your team versus another team kind of battle
No it doesn't "end", you obviously don't know how it works at all.
You seem to have missed the part where PVP is aimed at the "ESPORT" crowd.
Someone wins the suberbowl, game restarts, someone else gets a chance at the suberbowl. That's how it's made.
EDIT: Game might not be for you, but spouting out of your ass that just because it isn't, it must be a wow clone shows your true colors
The Deep Web is sca-ry.
I care less about the mini PvP games; I can have my BG fix in WoW; I am looking to experience the WvWvW. Hopefully it won't end up like WAR where everybody was in scenarios and open world PvP was almost non-existant
I usually don't PvP that much any any MMO. I think I feel the opposite as the OP because GW2 actually taps my urge to have some fun in PvP. the esport usually isn't my thing because by the time I get around to touching PvP in games, others usually are geared enough to steamroll taking a lot of the fun out of it. Nice to know GW2 isn't going that route. I am willing to bet that they will add more to the Esport type pvp if conquest style isn't your thing. I am not disappointed I am excited.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
Ah yea, the dragon that shoots fireballs at RANDOM locations, sounds just epic...
You've obviously have been following the game close huh?
So much wrong with this statement I'm not even going to bother.
This may come back to bite me upon release as i'm with you on the fun factor of those matches myself. I spent countless hours engaged in those, however, i do have some faith that these guys will deliver. They had to know how popular their pvp was with the playerbase. I actually didn't play GW1 for the pvp upon purchasing the game, as it was Tyria itself that drew me in with it's rich lore and amazing scenery. The extremely difficult quests that took you out in the middle of nowhere. I still haven't played a game that's solo or small party content challenged me in such a way aside from Everquest. I'm veering off course here so i'll say it again: I really think they are going to deliver here, because that's what put the Guild Wars name on the map.
It wasn't the PvE content, while challenging, was not as interesting as the PvP wound up being, and it's why i still log on every once in a while to play. I think GW2 will deliver on multiple levels, we just can't get our hands on it yet ^.^
The Mists being 3 zones isn't big enough for you?
If I followed your statment to a logical conclusion then WARhammer is also not persistent since i can shut the servers off.
The open world pvp in the mists is about as persistent as you can get. It's 3 zones that just sit there and you can pvp in them.
I plan on leveing almost entirely in the mists. After reading the recent pvp dev interviews it's obvious they're making DAOC 2.0/League of Legends and I welcome this.
I'm tired of these games using pvp stats. Give me gearless pvp please so I can earn a name by dominating not by outgearing you.
/wonders why Lady FlawSGI didn´t answer it.
Ok...I have a few comments, and I am glad that I you are a GW1 player, because that means that I know you actually know what to expect from Anet.
I don't have any doubt that other types of PvP arenas will be in the game, it is just that they won't be in it at launch. http://guildwars2.pl/about_lore_and_mechanics_with_eric_flannum_guildwarspl_exclusive,a545
Conquest was actually in GW1 for a while, called hero battles, but was removed for various reasons (balance issues, too many kinds of PvP, less popular than other types of PvP). It was my personal favorite type of PvP in GW1.
Anet seems to have made it obvious they do not like the super defensive strategies that tended to be used in hero battles and also made other forms of PvP take longer than they would have normally. In most cases, if you weren't running a Dual-Meld team in Hero battles, you weren't going to win.
Also, if Anet added a team arenas survival type tournament thing it could be interesting, but I can't see it as being part of the competitive E-sport aspect of this game.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
I can't wait I'm a total GW2 groupie fanboy, seriously. I love you once again NCsoft and the dev's. Release GW2 soon!
So, you only participate here to the extent of posting opinions based on a very flawed information and don't generally try to educate yourself further, or bother to read most of the replies?
Ok, well, I hope that makes things clearer for people who might stumble accross your "concerns" for the game.
World vs. World vs. World is three faction, World based PvP that takes place in a special region containing four full game zones; three zones, each providing a beach head for a given game server, surrounding the fourth zone in the middle. Each match up of three servers is fully persistant for a two week period of time. At the end of the two weeks, the connections between those three worlds is broken and your server is pitted against another two game worlds for the next two week war.
There is objective based PVP content here, ranging from tasks that a small group can accomplish to capturing, holding or laying seige to massive fortresses and a lot in between. There is also PVE content here and numerous Dynamic Event chains are spread through out the four zones that make up this region. There will be organized warbands here, small groups of skirmishers and even people out to tackle some PVE content in a massive region that provides the thrill and danger of Open World PVP.
You bring your skills and equipment into WvWvW, but everyone who enters here has their effective level scaled to the level cap of 80. A true level 80 will have an advantage over a true level 20, for sure, but everyone will be able to participate here in a meaningful manner, with out worrying about a few uber powerful characters ruining everything for other players.
There are many huge benefits to this design that should be obvious. We aren't talking about some large, glorified arena based battleground.

I am going to go ahead and use the same "Cliche's" everyone uses on me when I have my fanboy moments about the game: The game isnt even out yet. Have you played the game yet? Y U NO SHUTUP! yada yada yada.
Damn feels good to turn the tables on you detractors. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander and so forth.
Seriously though the game will also feature WvWvW open world PvP much like DAoC. Plus I think that Conquest PvP with "objective based scenarios" are a more truer sense of competitive PvP then "death match" because in a Death Match scenario its all about having OP classes. Whereas in conquest style more class diversity and a greater degree of flexibility in weapon sets and traits can be utilyzed.

Actually, it ends after two weeks. So even though it takes a while, it does eventually end. Hopefully we will get to fight the same servers often and develop some rivalries. Also, I hope there is a lot of depth and strategy to the map to keep it from getting old too fast. They have the potential to do a lot with the resource mechanic and really make the World PvP great.
Where do you queue for this "instanced WvWvW"? Ohh thats RIGHT YOU DONT IT IS OPEN. JUST BECAUSE ITS NOT OPEN IN EVERY ZONE DOES NOT MEAN THAT GW2 DOES NOT HAVE OPEN WORLD.
If you cant tell the difference between matched faction teamplay with a queue to get in and a set number of players playing in an INSTANCE and wandering into a zone set up specifically for PvP like was in DAoC's Frontiers then you are hopeless.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
No it resets after a certain time has elapsed (a week or two rather than minutes or hours) kind of neat a whole server fighting together against a couple of other servers.
Good resource here http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/2012/01/guild-wars-2-pvp-roundtable/4/
I dont get people... I really dont get some "special" individuals on this planet. I really dont get them.
GW2 will offer brand new ideas in terms of PVP.
Such as No PvP-Gear with stats, World vs World PVP and maybe the most skillful gameplay mechanic out there till date! That you are able to fight with so many "stances" with just one class. This makes everything so super colorful!
And this comes out of my mouth, from a terrible critical person, an MMO-veteran so to say, who detests our modern MMO- and gaming-mechanics, with its spoily and recycled attitude.
How on EARTH can this not be satisfying???
For people who want stats on their items - again? Where we all have seen to what this leads. Complains over complains that PVP ends up like an item-grindfest. Warfront-PVP only with small groups? Heck, we had it all, we dont want it back.
We want variation and that is what GW2 will hopefuly bring!
God... people these days!
