Gameplay is obviously going to be a high choice, but a more interesting question (since almost all of us are veterans of multiple worlds) might be to ask what was the most important factor in why we switched from our first game to our second.
While gameplay is always important regardless of genre, Community is pretty darn imporant for an MMO. Without it and it truely is a singleplayer game wither it played like it before or not. Sad to see so few votes for community.
You really have to define community . Honestly most people I run into in game are decent helpful and polite . When I think of community , that's where my mind goes to . I tend to guild/clans though personnally which really focus and narrows the sense of community. If you're talking forums , good luck then . That the holy grail , many have searched and none have found.
The ingame populous is how I define it. Which is a mix of all the other players you come in contact with(chat or phyically) and your guildies.
Then I'll just state that in almost every MMO I've played the communities have been good , of course you'll always run into one person /small group /clan that are buttheads in any game . That however has not been the norm for the most part in MMO's . Where I see the worst behavior in people tends more to be in FPS games.
I didn't pick the obvious "game play". Probably in the minority but If the art design and world aren't inspiring then I quickly lose interest. I can forgive average game play if the the art design is great or I like the theme. Can't explain it more than that, just how I'm wired.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Yeah agreed... I will put up with a less then stellar game gameplay wise if the community is great (see: EQ)
I voted Gameplay on the first question, but the other items are fairly important as well. The thing is, they are more minimums than they are deciding factors. I don't play games for graphics, but if it looks like it was coded in 1995, I'm not going to play it. Likewise with community; I don't play for the community, but if the community is terrible (like Dota, sigh), I won't play it. But gameplay is really the deciding factor for me. If it's "level up to maximum level and then raid until your eyes bleed", no thanks, been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. At this point, it takes innovative gameplay to spark my interest.
Another important option for the first question would be "buisiness model". We're in a world with a wide array of business models and one of the most important questions I ask myself when I see an interesting title is "when and how are they going to start twisting my arm for money".
I find it funny, these polls, that the questions are asked, people vote. But they pick other titles that dont offer what they vote for. granted its only 100+/- people that have voted so far. But take open world for example, lot of people prefer it and want it. But play limiting themeparks and defend them with a pashion. Gameplay, well there is a lot to this-- features, player housing, crafting, invasions, interactive npcs, and so much more. PVE/PVP, well i want both to mix it up. Open world pvp is the best, i hate instanced anything.
So many want more from a mmo, yet buy, waste money, and hype these half-arsed mmo's being released. The companies look at dollar signs. Once we start talking with our wallets, eventualy they will listen and change. I cant stand how anyone wants to play a limiting game with no features, player content, end game not based on warzones, dailies, and raids. Why do so many people like to limit their playing. Even if you hate a features, you can always not use it. Its just nice to have around incase you need or want it later. Not having it at all realy hurts mmo's.
I prefer a large open world, so i can explore. A good crafting system with player economy. I like players having to interact and work with others on all aspects of a mmo. I like social abilities and places to hang out, seems all these new games push you so fast to the end you dont ahve time to take a minute to chat it up and role play. I like the ability to do anything and everything in a game. I like not being limited and wait for content.
I guess ill never find a good mmo since SWG (which had all this) was cancelled. My hope is for Archeage and The Repopulation.

Ditto. I absolutely cannot stomach a game that looks bad. The game's graphics and art are what you'll belooking at while wasting your life away playing, so... I dunno. Call me shallow, but I just can't stand to look for long periods of time at things that displease my aesthetic sense.
No, I don't demand Crysis 2 graphics, but a certain blend of style and graphic quality that makes the game world and the characters feel just... right. One example could be Borderlands... not the best graphics, but good, and a style that perfectly matches the overall feel of the game. Going far, far back in time, another great example would be Day of the Tentacle. That game just oozes style (pun intended), and the art creates a wacky atmosphere that perfectly matches the overall game.
I wish I could have voted gameplay and community both, they're equally important to me, but I picked gameplay in the end.
Graphics are somewhat important to me, because it pertains to gameplay in a way, I want that HUGE OPEN WORLD to get lost in!
Yea I did the same as you on the gameplay part. A great community is good but if the gameplay is crap it still goes down the gutter, graphics is more of a personal opinion on art style but it also is important that the game looks better then older games.
I voted PvP by putting myself in the mind set of GW2 W v W v W which I think is what i'm going to end up doing most at the end although PvE is also very important to me. I of course voted open world though I don't think a world having a few instances is a bad thing. As for costumization I voted important, there needs to be enough options to mold your character properly but I don't mind not being able to create a perfect clone of something that exists.
I went with Gameplay; PvE; Zoned World (explained below); Very Important.
Why zoned world instead of open world? I picked it under the assumtion that dedicating resources to one zone at a time would allow devs to create much larger zones without hindering PC performance.
An open world doesn't feel very open to me when its confiningly small.

I picked Zoned World, but I did it not understanding what was meant. I was think zoned as in Aion, where you have one world, and it's open, but you can change "phases" to a different phase. Otherwise, I would have chosen "Open World".
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Answered game play for the first question but what attracts me the most is the immersion, guess it somewhat fits in game play. Getting drawn into a game that make me go : Oh shit it's 2 am.
My only suggestion is the question about open world, zoned world and instanced world is a bit ambiguous.
For example: A game like GW 2 - or even GW 1- is both instanced, open and zoned world.
That is the only question I had a hard time answering as a game that is open world - meaning you can see other players, with no map restrictions; and is instanced - meaning your own story arc that isn't spoiled with having wait for a mob to spawn because you just watched him be killed by another player (this sort of stuff ruins immersion).
I would suggest other options that include Open + instanced etc.
Sorry to nit pick; it's just my opinion.
Good luck with the results, I always enjoy filling in questionaires.
Really? Maybe I'm too much of an old-school role-player, but I've never liked the idea of PvP in my RPGing.
PvP leads to a lot of griefing. LoL is the best genre for instanced PvP and browser games where you don't have to spend your whole life are better for "world" pvp. EvE is also good, but it does take a lot of time and money to be competitive.

I think gameplay should have been a different option for question #1
its too much a given - most players wont play a game unless its fun

...it's epic loot and pizza rolls.

Wow, gameplay ftw lol .
I love community, sandbox features, all that stuff. But if the gameplay isn't there...I'm not interested. That's why I could never get into Eve.
Despite the fact that the whole sandbox thing about Eve really appeals to me, I found that the gameplay was just too dull.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Yeah agreed... I will put up with a less then stellar game gameplay wise if the community is great (see: EQ)
Community > all for me in this particular genre.

Visual customization - not important. Gameplay customization (skills, abilities etc.) - very important.
