It's nice to see SOE failing.

After the way that they have treated the players, and their lack of morality in their business practices, it is nice to see them going down the tubes.

Who agrees?

I do not really care. If, it was SOE fault then they deserve it.

And how is it that they treated their players? Gimmie reasons, bro.

    S.O.E.  =   (Super) Stream-lined  Over-produced  Enter"pain"ment.   image

Everquest =  Good. Even though it wasn't as good as Asherons Call imo.  Good game for its time.

Star Wars Galaxies = An insult to online gaming and to th Star Wars movies.

Everquest 2 = HAHA, this is what we call "beautiful boredom".  Hey atleast if they are gonna bore the living hell out of us, they can atleast make some pretty grafix, and cool looking spells.  Too bad that they totally left the element "fun" outta their game with all their attention going to graphics and NPCs that talk to you like you are a dope every step of the way.  Oh and gotta love the golden rays of light leading us back to our dead corpses err souls too!  Can anyone say "Newbified"?  Next time Sony, try putting a little "challenge" back in your damn game, and maybe it might have some "fun" too.

Oh well, guess this is what the newbie generation of mmo players want.  I like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Huey Lewis and the News myself, but Britney Spears sells ten times the albums as both of them put together.  Same BS here.  Just a different medium.

I don't want to get into a big discussion about it.. I just wanted to get an idea of what other people thought about it in the poll..

But I will say this.. as far as how they've treated their players.. The Boourns incident in SWG is a good example, look it up I'm sure there's something about it on the web somewhere..

But really, and this what I'm really trying to say here, it is more just the overall attitude which they had towards their players which left a bad taste in my mouth.

I got the feel that they look down on their players, and almost punish them with their business practices. I can't really explain one particular thing about it.. But if you read that powerpoint presentation of Raph Koster's which got leaked out and was on the SWG boards for awhile, you can get a real good inside look at what they think of their players.

I just feel like they're quite dastardly in the overall theme of what they do.

But like I said, I don't want to get into a discussion or debate or anything about this. This is just the way I feel, from what I've picked up about them through my own intuition, which I have learned to trust more than anything else.

What's the point of this thread?  Nothing will change, SoE and Sony will still employ 1000s and 1000s of workers and make billions world wide and YOU will still be poor and whining on these boards how Sony ruined your life.

Get a grip man, its just a freaking game (EQ or SWG).  If you didn't enjoy it fine.  BUT GET OVER IT.  There is WoW for all the hopeless SoE haters to enjoy go play that instead.  Either that or go out and get a life.

You've misread me. I'm just glad that they're failing. I'm not flailing around about it. I'm just saying. And I was wondering who else agreed with me. That's all.

In any case, I'm going to go do something else, while the poll grows. If you post something to me, and I don't respond, it's because I'm elsewhere.

They are failing? Where did you hear this?
  • Yery79Yery79 Member Posts: 25

Could someone please give me a link to that PowerPoint presentation?
I'd like to download it or at least see what's in it. :)

    Thanks,

    SoE is failing?

SOE has the most subscribers worldwide of any MMO company, except maybe NCSoft.

    That's considered failing?

Next evil bloodsuckers = EA. Wait, they produced Sims on line already image

i disagree, they may have made eq 2 not to fit me and others but lots of other folks are totaly enjoying the game still and i  imgine after more changes patches come it will get  lots  better.

This company brought me upteen hours of enjoyment with eq  and even hours and hours of enjoyment with swg.

It'ts not uncommon for producers to hit a percieved dud, or miss there target goal,  every now and then,  but come back strong the next time around...............

and i don't see how they are failing with so many all station axcess pass...................

SoE is Verent, the makers of EQ1. That fact alone will keep them from ever 'failing' since there are millions of die-hard EQ1 fans that will keep EQ2 alive and well for years to come. Plus the game is not that bad. Many many people enjoy it, and of course there are people who don't. Just like there are MORE MILLIONS that enjoy Lineage 1/2 and many more who think its a tedious horror.

Thinman is obviously a troll, with nothing to back his post. Its kinda sad that people are so defensive of the game they play that they have to turn to baseless flames. (He obviously is a WoW player and wants to discredit any game that is a threat).

SoE is not Verant, SoE bought EQ away from Verant.  And just because Blizzard is beating EQ doesn't mean they are failing.  Even though I don't like them (SoE)
  • PasomattPasomatt Member Posts: 221

No, Sony hired the Verant team and renamed them Sony Online Entertainment. It is the same people that made Everquest 1. The current president of SoE is John Smedly, the co-founder of Verant, and Russel Shanks is the COO (chief operating officer). He was the other co-founder.

The team has obviously grown, but it is still the same company just under a different name.

NCSoft must be failing too then, since they have far less active subs in NA for Lineage II than they predicted prior to release.

    Give me a break.

    This thread is sad haha.

Personally, I think Sony has failed consumer confidence.  Sony as a whole.
  • WillJones420WillJones420 Member Posts: 263

I could give less than a rat's tail about SOE anymore. Quite simply they've hit pop flies and double play grounders or just flat out struck out on all their attempts to produce online gaming since the days of Post-Lucklin EQLive. I'm not going to give them any more chances, and I honestly believe that Sony should scrap SOE and stick with what they're good at: general electronics.

I dont care eather way, other then to say the great thing about a free market ecnomy is that you can vote with your money. S.O.E. messed up when looking at the # of users thay could have had. they will fix it or they will get new upper management. my sole fear of this is that there will be one head company like M$, EA with NFL, but who knows?
well sory im typeing this right be for i go to bed, so im not spell checking it.

  • PasomattPasomatt Member Posts: 221

Everquest 2 is a great game. Sure it doesn't please everyone, but that hardly makes a company a failure.
    Drop it.

well, i looked them up....absolutely nothing comes up in a google for The Boourns incident in SWG. and i couldnt find any leaked letter about raph koster either. so unless you can give us some links with proof, i dont think im going to believe you. i have had nothing but good service from SOE. the three years that i played everquest, any cs ticket i ever put in was answered promptly and they were always willing to help. whether it was about something that happened (like missing quest piece or someone harassing me) they always replaced the piece or calmed the situation down. i also played SWG, and although i admit it was a bit tougher to get ahold of the cs team, they always sent me back a mail within a reasonable amount of time. some people blow things out of proportion, and even if thier was a letter from this guy named raph koster, does he represent the whole of SOE...i think not. so if you have some kind of vendetta against them, thats your problem. they are a huge company and its hard to cater to hundreds of thousands of players, so when your perfect come back and try again.

I don't understand how you can say they're failing. According to the latest numbers the original EQ still has more monthly subscribers than WoW and EQ2 isnt that far behind. The only game that has more monthly subscribers than EQ is Lineage 2. If thats failing i wish i could fail so horribly. The fact that you may not like a couple of their games by no means indicates that everyone feels the same. If you see that as failure its best you let someone else handle your investments lol.

i guess by your standards i can say Blizzard is a failure because Nevrax put out a better game than WoW in Saga of Ryzom?
