i havent tried TERA but i saw various gameplay videos. It looks very beautiful and colorful. Combat looked pretty fluid (from what i could see on the gameplay vids). Now, i noticed it has the same old leveling progression with static npc standing motionless on different quest hubs giving the same old Kill 10 rats then come back quests...i hope the game provides some innovation in character progression or at least a world that feels alive... Its getting tiring to buy mmos that provides the same level(quality) of progression as free games.
Im interested in this game but i will wait for more news to come to light and then decide ifs different enough to break the cycle and buy it or just move on to other upcoming mmo
I have been looking at some videos, and all I can find are videos on combat, so here are my questions:
1) Is this a real p2p mmo like other major titles out there where you have plenty to do other than grinding? (engaging quest system, crafting, achievements, etc)
2) Kind of the same question as the first one, but is this game grind heavy, to level will it be my main key of leveling?
3) Is there open world and instanced PvP? And is PvP competitive and balanced?
4) Are there instances/dungeons like other mmos? Korean mmos tend to not have them in general
I am more interested in the greater scope of things. I mean the combat is nice and all but it wont keep me subbed. However a deep political PvP system will so I am more interested if it will deliver there rather than GFX and FPS type combat.
Political system is not tied to pvp from what i know, unless they have changed things for this release.
The game is your standard themepark with a nice combat system added on, dont go into this expecting somthing totally different from your average MMORPG.
A lot of the NPCs are static as well but there are also some moving around but not many..
A lot of the NPCs are static as well but there are also some moving around but not many..
this is where developers(in general) tend to fail the most. NPC are AI, so why not make them actually AI? (artificial intelligence)... code them to do stuff in the world (including quest npcs of course). Make them stand for a while and contemplate the world, react to weather changes, enter houses so if you need a quest npc that just entered a house you can enter too and get your quest. Make them grab a workbench if theres any nearby, Make them do stuff like people would normaly do, IF you cast a spell close to an npc make him reactm like get scared or something (or at least tell you to be careful with that)....
That makes the game feel very alive and i would enjoy giving my money to the devs every month to play an mmo taht does that. But oh well, They keep making the same excuses that the game this and the codes that and the size and the lag and whatever.... lazy devs = not worth gamer's money so we end up having all the same mmos one after another.

The EA/NA will have PVP server with open world pvp as well as battlegrounds and PVE servers with battlegrounds and duals.
The open world pvp servers will literally be FFA pvp and not tied into anything.
Looking into what litle details i could find the political system does look like it had a link with pvp
There is a tie in with the political system but only through the battleground system, basically if you and your clan get to the top of the leaderboard you can become a political leader.
I don't see a reason to speculate anything at this point when starting tomorrow we can see for ourselves.
What IS clear is that devs of Tera feel very confident about their game, they are offering an "open beta weekend" 3 months before launch, I don't know any other MMO that have done that.
We'll talk after this weekend as many more things will be clear.
However, I'd like to comment on something.
I'm in europe and what I am worried about is not the lawsuit but the 'pedophile magnet" Elin race.
Germany being one of the biggest country in Europe is probably the biggest MMO market too and German goverment is known for blocking video games due to excesive violence etc.
So if Elin's outfits and animations look sexualy provocative all it takes is for someone to show it to some German politician and make it hard for Tera.
We'll see.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

The Elin, mixed with a /flirt or /hug emote and things will get... weird :O
The only thing that makes TERA stand out whatsoever is the combat and for people who are used to more action pased games will find this combat to get boring quite quickly, around 20 levels or so. If people are willing to waste their money then go ahead but don't bother coming back on here in a month or 2 after release complaining about the game.
I don't agree totally, but it is definitely lacking. The game just has too many aspects outside of combat that are subpar. I can look past it, but will others? I am just not so sure.
What are the things that are sub par? When you make statements like this please go into detail or it makes your statment worthless.

What makes it stand out is that it just looks lke a really good mmo thats doing a few things different like the Political System. We need more mmos that give power to the people to make actual change in a game.
I'm there for the art style, the open world with action combat thrown in and the slick Unreal graphics. Everything else that's OK and better is icing on the cake for me.
There is very little PVP in K Tera, infact i think you have to pay in game gold to PVP or somthing.
EU/NA have said they will rework the pvp system but the game was not designed around pvp so expect it to be basic..
This is not a pvp orientated game
If that is the case then it will be pass for me. Dont want yet another PvE centered ThemePark.
This is blasphemy, you do not have to pay in game gold for PVP, just your guild has to pay gold todeclare a Guild vs Guild publicly announced battle.
There are also 5v5 and 10v10 battlegrounds plus you can have group duels, Open world PvP is still a little iffy, but it's being reworked and well see what NA/EU revamp has to offer.

Well let's hope so because I heard before that PvP would play a big part in this game. If it is an afterthought then it wont be good.
I certainly hope PvP would be a bigger part of the game considering the political system and what good is a political system if no one can wage war. Also reading their site it sounded like the leader of the region can enable/disable open PvP to their liking, although I haven't seen any comments here to confirm this feature (love that you can no longer trust feature lists). Bloodbath Fridays imo...

I know they changed some of the Elin armors an what not for NA. Not sure about the EU / UK versions.
Played it around a year ago ( more or less ), the best part is the combat system which is worse than C9, a tie with B&S and above the rest of the market, it was fun with a group doing "group" mobs, the main problem imo is the quest system same old same old, it remain to be seen if the high end content is worthy, that is the only thing i didnt test when i played.

Because: A: no factions B: i read something about rulers of a region.. which is prolly some quest story line to complete.. C: no territory control no housing/castles/guild,clan home E: it will prolly have pvp servers.. which i think will be FFA pvp where there are no factions..
If someone can clear these up?
A)This is a Guild vs. Guild Game, not some factions that the devs make up. The players make their own factions.
B)Yes there are rulers of regions, this is done by the political system. 50% of the areas are for the PVP's, the top rank players rule. The other 50% of the areas are from voting.
C)huh? what do think the political system is all about territory control.
D)No you can't make your own places, but there will be guild banks and such.

The PVP is tied to the political system. It costs 30 million gold to sign up for the PVP tournament. The tournament lasts for a week. The top rank players from the tournament become rulers. They rule for 3 weeks. Then the whole process starts aver again.

I'm curious about this game... quess we will see how it feels tomorrow.
I usually roll female toons but in TERA... those running animations just

A lot of the PVP system is changing from the Korean version so i guess we will just have to wait and see.
Hmm, so if you have a large zerg guild, no life, grief people alot..
...or most likely all of the above, you will win this game. Standard stuff then lol.
