They should've just IP blocked everyone not from europe.
Now their servers got zerged by zillions of people all over the world.
LOL problem with that is getting around IP block takes maybe 5 minutes , and of course being the helpful lot we are we would have posted the howto for those that didn't know howto.
They should have been prepared, this is what you call a public relations disaster.
Chill out this game is not even in beta yet, we are between alpha and closed beta.. and honestly the point of this weekend was to find issues like this before they took the game into closed beta.
Don't speak nonsense. Companies use these promo weekends then slap the term ' beta ' on it so people like you can feel privileged and brag to people how you played ' beta '.
Maybe if you were even remotely informed about what the hell you were talking about and not just talking out your butt.
The beta schedule has been posted for awhile now and the CB starts next week, this was just them wanting to test the hardware before the start of CB.
They could at least give an about timeframe like "5-7hrs", "somewhen tomorrow" or "not this weekend".
Not being able to guess any approximate time doesn't sound like they know exactly what the problem is, hence not how long they need to solve it.
Not being willing to tell us anything is about as bad. At least it's fans of the game sitting at home with their fingers on the F5 key and all Frogster comes up with is "we still have no idea" every 2 hours.
They should've just IP blocked everyone not from europe.
Now their servers got zerged by zillions of people all over the world.
Or maybe not given out more keys than they could handle?
Do you think that this would have gone any better if the same # of people would have logged in from the UK instead of " all over the world"?
This is not the first game to be overwealmed by player interest they did not expect. Many AAA titles including all the big developers have been overwealmed by larger than anticipated player response.
Knowing what the problem is about is far away from knowing how long it takes to solve it. This is not baking or vacuum cleaning. This is about software development and if you have never done it don't talk like you know how it works.
I doubt we will have anything today to be honest.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
I managed the other thread with all the sneak peek keys in, I was pretty active gathering new links and stuff. My estimate would be about 15k keys.
EDIT: That last tweet basicly should confirm what I said earlier.
I see, 15k keys.
That is asking for problems. 15k people logging in at exactly the same time on the login server, and then 7500 at once for the realm. No wonder it blew up.

Do explain how it could be running over a year in Korea and Japan fine but doesn't work on EU ?
Do explain how ToR´s PvP passed beta? Sometimes shit happens.
I remember one MMO had a 2 days downtime because of a different currency in the account screen. Don´t ask me which, I forgot. It happened long ago though. First of all, we are talking about server not being online and ThorHal said he know it is not frogster's side. I am just curious how he could be so sure. since he said he is not talking about it out of his ass. secondly, I play TOR but I don't PVP. I have no clue about something is wrong with PVP nor do I care. PVP is always wrong anyway. Learn that from all my previous MMOs. No one is happy when they are weak against others and no one thinks they need to be balanced when they are too powerful. Third, the server was down after about 10 mins being up. It is not the same with different currency in account screen. First of all I hate Electronic Arts. They cripple good developer studios since decades. My favourite studio was Bullfrog. Someone else would mention Maxis, Westwood, Origin, Mythic whatever. I still try to be fair with Bioware.
Second this game is not even closed beta in western world but already released in Asia. So I guess it is not just because of translation.
Third my example with currency was showing that PC MMOs are a beast. There might be some minor bugs which can kill a game.
As I said we might be spoiled by Trion and Bioware, but to release an MMO without many instances is always a challenge... I guess.

Not quite sure what you mean. Frogster was in control of how many sneak peak keys they handed out, so there was no surprise in regards to the number of people trying to log in today. How can you be overwhelmed by the response when you control exactly how big of a response there will be?
Also, this doesn't seem to be an issue of over-crowding, or long qeues, it's a serious problem with the code/data-base and the server fell apart almost immediately after the first people started logging in.
So , without talking about details that I don't understand, with all the westernisation of the game client going on, Bluehole somehow messed up the NA/EU client, is that the problem?
And then server problems on top of that right?
So it's both Bluehole and Frogster failure, am I reading that right?

If it was a problem that could be fixed for us to login tomorrow, it would also have been fixed within 3 hours.
Just a guess, but don't expect anything this weekend.

I still don't know why you brought TOR into a Tera thread. or EA for that matter.

@callum_gregg It's not just upgrading, there are problems on the server side & database. That's why we can't hand out any ETA currently.

Indeed, result: test failed.
But the test did happen for a whole 10 minutes.

I don't think nybody managed to enter game, server screen was as far as you could get.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
They do otherwise they wouldn't have been invited to join this weekend as well.
I had my preorder key applied to my account already since the 3rd of Feb.
My friend my managed to log into the server we agreed on and he was half way done creating his character when the servers crashed.
I read of others in the same situation.
Then you think wrong.
I managed to select race and class and was just browsing trough the head customizations.
Someone else posted he managed to finish 1 quest before the server booted him.
This means the problem is not just hardware, database = a coding issue.
That said not expecting to get this working tonight.
I can fix it.... Give me a bigger hammer
Okay

I made it into character creation, but when entering my name (for the character) it gave an error, after that I got thrown back to desktop.

7 hours? What the fuck are they doing? Did their server hall explode or something?

Alright kids, say "thank you PsychoPigeon"
It's went from constant Json errors to general failures.
Progress.
Maybe.
