Every time a question spings up another player....
The player in question is driven by self-interest, just like you are.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I still have duel spammer burnout from wow I think........God but I hate duel spammers! I really have to say that one aspect of any games community I really hate is duel spamming 12 year olds. If you are one of those I really have to ask. If somebody rejects your duel spam once. What makes you think they will accept it the second, third, fourth, fith, 800,000th time? Then they have the brass balls to have a go at you for it. In my experiance they didn't seem to like it when I whisperd them back incesently for the rest of their playtime sugestering that maybe they could get a girlfreind if they washed sometimes and maybe laid off the cheeseburgers for a few weeks, and I don't know, maybe munch down a green salad now and then but I digress. I like to duel in pvp centric games, it's good for you. It keeps you focused and your skills sharp. But really in a game like tor I don't see the point. Anyway, thats the end of my story and the reason I don't duel on Tor........................................Pheeew! I needed that
I can't remember for certain, but I think they must have an autodecline option. Because if they did, I would have set it up, and I've never gotten a duel request.
No offense, but being requested to duel by total strangers annoys the crap out of me.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.
I think out of 20+ people I find a person who would duel. It literally takes maybe a minute, actually less. But I never seem to find anyone want to duel even though we're same level.
It's not just this game, any mmorpg I played rarely I found someone that will accept to duel.
Unless I'm about to log out or something, I always accept duel requests in MMOs. Even if the other player is higher level than me and I stand no chance. Who cares? It's just a game and it will make you better at PvP no matter what.
It's not just this game, any mmorpg I played rarely I found someone that will accept to duel.
It at least used to be common pasttime in EQ2 when you waited for the tank or healer to show up for a dungeon.
Not sure anymore, 1 1/2 years ago since I quit but I think the numbers of duels I was in decreased the last year or so.
My swashie rarely initiated a duel (unless insulted) but had the code to never refuse if challenged. My dirge was more chicken and turned the ones with low chanses down, but the Sashie was doing the musketeer thing.

tell me what reason I would have to duel? not gonna get money, not gonna get xp, not even pvp points for it, also most of time I never would use long cd skills or pots and other consumables in duels, with people like you do jsut because you need to raise your e-pen a little on your mind.
save it in real pvp in open world, wanna pvp go there not in safe zone, with give nothing and not risk of losing
I rarely ever duel unless its with people I know or a good friend....because:
1. If I lose...the other player usually has some childish remark to say when they win
or
2. If I win...the other player usually has some childish remark to say....or keeps challenging me until they win.
Duels and PVP are not the same to me.....I feel when someone initiates a duel, its to try and prove something....a total ePeen fest. If your into duels you should be on a PVP server, always ask before sending a request, and never gloat or put down another player who may not be into things the way you are.
I despise PVP because it brings out the nasty side of people, and I play games to have fun and a good time, not argue over who's the better player, or which class is OP at the moment. I dont mind duels amongst friends though because I does help refine skills and when its among friends, theres never hard feelings on anyones part.
I know this sounds carebearish, but I just find strangers to be assholes when it comes to this situation....I'd rather keep it among friends and keep the good times going.
...again, PVP and duels are different to me...maybe others feel the same way and this is why "most" turn you down?
I couldnt have said it better myself. I set auto reject if its in the option.

a yes before I leave, duels never help you learn to pvp, pvp are not always 1vs1 people can enter a mob can agro, the dude can run, you can feel in a ambush, so yeah duel means NOTHING at all
in other words you mean good mmos? cause no good mmo needs dueling.

They do. I don't have mine setup because I do like to duel at times when waiting for others to show up at a heroic or fp. I just hate the ones that go around duel spamming everyone.
Honestly though I think I've only ran across one of those in this game. Only one that comes to mind. Thankfully.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Its not going to prepare you for all the possible situations you will run into in an actual encounter in the open world (or even warzones), but it will at least give you some practice using your abilities and seeing what works well against the different classes. In that respect, I think its obvious that there is some value to it. You CAN learn from duels... and since you have nothing really to lose, why not accept?

I accepted once a duel in TOR, the guy asked in /tell first and not just begun the annoying mute spam.

carebear mmos need not dueling.

Carl Sagan-
When something is FUN, people do it.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
It's not just this game, any mmorpg I played rarely I found someone that will accept to duel.
Fun or rewarding, yes.
Maybe people are already tired of oldschool "My gear bigger than your gear, lets PvP anyway"-thinking.
We are all infected by Guild Wars 2. Which is gooooood!

Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.

What bugs me is that by you dueling you don't lose anything and still people don't duel.
That´s not really true, anything with swashbuckling in needs duels.
Games like LOTRO on the other hand don´t.

here's a question for all you duelest proponents: Why not just ask your fellow guild mates to duel?
Or those on your friends list?
Why do you have to bother complete strangers?
lol

Why this and why that by that time we would have done dueling.

Not true. I lose time I can do what I want to do instead of what the other person wants to do.
Nah Auto Decline solves that. It doesnt even have to happen lol
