Also, does anyone know if you can like... walk to locations... or do you have to use the "hollow earth" portal room to get from one place to another?

i understand what you mean combat wise, but we cant garentee that until we play it sadly.

from what ive noticed it would be a teleport style thing to get to the open area. like you cant walk from London to China sort of deal, but london is big enough to look around in.

    Because i can.

Its the only mmo I am waiting for currently. Mainly because its not fantasy its more sci-fi, and the fact it's not just another world of warcraft rip off, like swtor and gw2 (and probally TSW will feel like wow I bet, I have no faith in mmo's anymore). I might pick up a 360 and a copy of phantasy star universe to hold me over tbh.

Afterwards (hindsight being a great thing) most of them then said things like "oh I reported that issues months ago and they didnt fix it" but leading to launch there was mainly praise.

And we know how that all turned out dont we ?

Im sorry but after the joke that AoC was I can't trust Funcom ever again.

Failure in terms of mmorpgs is so subjective its almost pointless to argue over.  Some see failure as not achieving more than 10mil subs...wich is all but one mmorpg...others see failure as shutting down completely..or going F2P...  Then theres some who call a game a total failure if it doesnt flawlessly launch...regardless of where it ends up.

Op is clearly a "if it doesnt launch flawlessly its forever a failure" type..and thats ok.

Funcom had anarchy online, which had a bad launch and afterwards resulted in years of enjoyment, a game whos immersion and complexity isnt matched even today, other than eve type games in terms of complexity.

AoC has a bad launch, i joined about a year after, have about 1.5 years of some of the most entertaining combat, across several characters.  Still havent found a game with combat that was as enjoyable that uses tab targeting at least.  Also it was a beautiful game to look at...

Anyway..will TSW flop?  I cant see a game that takes a step into the sandbox territory with characters (how i hate rerolling character so its a huge plus for me) it takes the game out of the fantasy arena and into modern conspiracy lore and history...a major plus for me...

Will it be perfict...i cant expect it to and dont...will it have issues...of course...

Ill enjoy it, however ive been able to enjoy some of the most hated mmorpgs...and typically i dislike the populair games and enjoy the hated ones...i like things diffrent complex and difficult when i comes to my games...and since the crowd wants easy instant gratification and simple...all i got are the games people dislike i guess.  I can live with that.  Oh and i get the bonus on missing out on the chuck norris "anal [link]" and other community plauges that follow the simple and easy clones...

Just a diffrent way of looking at things i guess. EIther way im sure the OP is going to enjoy wow->rift->swtor->gw2->ect which im fine with.

You think AoC had a standard launch and everyone should expect that type of experience at launch?  You are deluding yourself.

you took that wrong. and i really cant comprehend how you think i believe that AoC launched well. let me explain much simplier.

The standard launch is a bad one. everygame faceplants, everygame blooms afterwards. and before you go on about AoC being bad therefore TSW will be bad. Completely different dev team. you wanna see something this Dev team released, go play longest journey.

I don't think every game faceplants on launch and those that do don't always blossom.  I'm not saying TSW will be bad because of AoC, I just don't agree with your statement about all MMOs faceplanting.

Source Engine is valves own upgrade if the quake engine. Valve licenced engine from is for half life 1, then improved the code themselves over the years. The quake engine gas branched into many variants at many.companies over the years, and us probably the most widely used game engine family.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I can't wait to try this game but to ignore everything that happened before is naive, however my prior experience is not that bad at all when compared to most mmo launches.

    a) they are holding the game for over 4years, they spend little money each year in dev so unless you have a cost report or something you can't really say how much was spend on the project.

    b) its brutal true, but right now GW2 is not out, SWtor failed hard, a new shiny thing now will get some people, even if its like swtor did, lots of box sold, half people still with sub up

    c) funcom was never know for open betas and betas outside they controled servers, they like to use they internal tester, not outside people, plus they are leaking info for years about the game just to keep people looking at it,

I was looking up for this game before till I read they would make a P2P cash shop, so yeah gonna stay far from it if its true and I really hope the game fail HARD if that is true

FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

Most people fail a few times before learning the ropes and you might not know it but Blizzard started by porting Amiga chess games to PC a long time ago.

It is very possible that TSW will be just like AoC player wise but it is not a must, let every game proves itself by it´s own merits and wait with shooting them down before you tried them.

Past behaviour gives a hint about future behaviour. Sure it is not a guarantee that they will behave the same way but I have not seen any signs that TSW will be much different than AoC in therms of execution.

And it is not like Funcom are new to this. They have been in the industry for ten years and have already released two MMORPGS, neither which I found particulary good.

More over there are strong rumours that they will have both P2P and RMT so again another reason why this game will be a failure. Or rather not a good game imo. I am sure it will sell boxes and make some money for FunCom.

I dont think any of this is true?  Do you have anything to back this up?

Funcom has had a money surge from age of conan.  Even as a failure it still made then a pretty decent amount of money.

TSW has been in development for years.  And there is nothing say release wont be pushed backed.  Funcom wanted to push back the release of age of conan,  but eidos pushed them to release early.

Rift was able to pull in 100 mil in revenues. I am pretty sure the secret world can equal that.

It is to early to say that TSW is going to be a failure. Take it easy, wait for game to come out and than we can say is it any good or a just one more let-down.

You mean like being suspicious that a thief will steal? No, it makes you an intelligent person who look in the past to predict the future.

If StarVault would release another MMORPG I would think it will be a failure as well.

It's also important to look at the people behind TSW. It's Ragnar Tornquist who has two successful games (The longest Journey and Dreamfall), both Funcom games. It's true that AO and AoC had rough launches, but the beta of TSW does look quite different than AoC two months after launch. It's stable and low level game mechanics are actually fun. (I have tried the TSW beta).

Well personally on both of these launches I had an absolute blast, and got more than my moneys worth in the first month of play.  Yes it was broken and PR was horrible, but in the end they delivered fun addictive games.

TSW is a different dev team, led by a guy who has produced 2 console games which require extreme levels of polish.  AoC was not just a new game but a new engine.  TSW is using that same engine.

Also if you look up beta reports the game engine appears to be pretty rock solid allowing 30+ hours of continuous no crash gameplay.

I will be all over this sweetly designed game from day 1 and I will preorder the second it is available to support the ideas that they are putting forward.

Same here. Gotta get in and get my hands dirty on this game day one.
