Yuck, you picked the most boring class of the bunch to solo.

Mystic was given the maximum amount of stars for Support Ability. That should've been a hint right there.

Yes but for how long? Great combat alone doensn't keep you playing a game for years.

There's alot more to gameplay than just combat, it's all the systems in place that make up gameplay, not just the pew pew related ones.  (or at least that's my understanding of it).

Good combat is a necessary building block to make a lasting MMO but everything outside of fighting counts just as much and apparently this game doesn't offer much in that department. Excpet maybe territory wars, that looks interesting (but it's only an endgame feature so meh).

I am a fighting game fan.

I am actually just about to log off of the pc to go over to the PS3 to play Soul Calibur 5. I played Soul Calibur 1 for years. It was purely about the combat, and it was enough. Granted that was one of the best games ever, but combat CAN be enough. If it is done well.

TERA is not THAT good, but even a marginal story and social features when filled with the better combat it does afford and the fucking great graphics are more than enough to keep me and others playing.

TETRIS is ALL ABOUT GAMEPLAY. And people still play that. Chess anyone? Get some different pieces....

SO many examples where all there is is the gameplay and people stick to it.

Someone please make a good MMO.

i just wish combat involved more movement. doesnt have to be free movement, that would cause problems, but would be great if each attack had a directional variant. like, a sidestep version, a backpedal version, etc. so you could move while attacking, but in a very controlled way, so some classes might be able to move a lot, while others could only move a little, to keep it balanced.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I tried to group but the party chat crits me way too often with jokes that are not even funny...

*arrow joke crits you for 99999*

*sex/boobs joke crits you for 99999*

*random racial joke crits you for 99999*

So I end up solo a lot LOL

Oh that sucks. It gets better ^^ Look forward to the CBs where the freebies trolls will be mostly gone.

I enjoyed mystic a lot! But only when I was being useful to someone else :) Like with my bud.

My biggest poblem so far would be not enough stuff besides leveling once game is launched. At the moment, crafting at low levels are not possible since its way too big a money sink that will drain low level character dry in no time. It means I will have to get to at least level 30 or more to start crafting. Leveling one character in CB is fine, but I don't know if I want to repeat this process. I got a lot of thinking to do :)

Well, reading that alone made me cringe my teeth, even though I know just fine what TERA is and what it offers. However, I must say that I consider Amalur a horrible fail! Even Witcher 2 managed to end up with a better combat system. :/

Where have the days of glory, such as those of Severance: Blade of Darkness gone? What about Dark Messiah of Might and Magic? Mount&Blade -series.. Even Skyrim managed to end up with an "okay" combat system, but I myself see nothing amusing or fun in an Fable-clone (Amalur) or TERA's system.

But these are just the opinions of an drunk viking, thank you for your time.

PS. I believe that the highest barrier for me concerning both of those two games was the graphics / setting / theme. Amalur being the high fantasy, over bright, shiny, everything feels like taken out of World of Warcraft and childish (even though there was some attempt at an evil dark plot?) and TERA being overdone with the oriental style. I can't play a game where there's "lancers" with twelve foot poles which seem to be weightless (Almost forgot those "berserkers", or what were they? With axes five times the size of a man...), and high elves in china dresses lapdancing while casting over cool magics, and not to even mention some child-like race which I see no point what-so-ever in (Oi, don't mention hobbits, they are awesome.)

Of course it all comes down to personal preferences and opinions, but... I prefer my fantasy darker and the more realistic, the better.

We?re all dead, just say it.

There really isn't a problem with crafting at low levels.  At first, I thought there was because I assumed the only way to get into it was to do the quest(s) provided, but there are alternatives.

These crafting quests don't require you to gather any materials.  You need only go to the crafting area, with an ample amount of gold, and you are able to level up almost instantly.  When you walk away you can craft items up to the high 20's.  Which assuming you are around that level, the gold required isn't that daunting.

The other method is to simply gather materials as you are playing and use those to craft.  Using this method, I only needed around 50 raw matierals and 3,000 gold and I was able to get to the same level as I could just using the quest.

I guess I kind of like it, as it give those who really look and investigate how to do things a break.  Those who prefer to have it handed to them simply pay ten times as much.

Seems to me I might be missing something here then. I went to the alchemy one, each formula costs quite a bit. After bought 6 formula, I was out of gold. I couldnt even afford whatever else needed to make some items. Which trade did you do ?

Tera is more like a 70%, with traditional holy trinity and quest based progression but with territorial control and guild vs guild PVP, yeah that's not innovative but it's also not quite common, i mean the last WOW clone with guild vs guild PVP was AoC.

And sandboxy PVP means community driven PVP, kinda like what Lineage 2 had.

I wouldn't put "Action combat, territorial control, guild vs guild PVP and open world dungeons," as same old same old, but maybe that's just me, i still remember fanboys like Maverick and popinjay praise SWTOR because it had " Territorial control PVP with objectives on Illium" lol what a joke...

With all this things that games like Rift & SWTOR lack, Tera could be a nice filler for the people who are interested in ArcheAge, since it has the same focus on community driven PVP.

Numbers like that are just meaningless. TERA may be like 70% themepark to YOU (bc you like some of the stuff in the game and ppl get a more fanboish/positive look when that happens), but to others who don't value those specific things as much as you do, to them that percentage may be a lot higher. Aion had territorial control, AoC had more action styled combat, guild PvP and open world dungeons and both had their own distinctions and still both are regarded as themepark MMO's. Each themepark MMO had its own distinctions and differences, but that didn't make their design non-themepark, nor even hybrid. However you look at it, TERA doesn't look nowhere near a sandbox MMO but more like a full on themepark with action oriented combat and with its own gimmicks.

ArcheAge, I can see how that game can be a true sandbox/themepark hybrid MMO, but TERA, sorry, not really. Even TSW, Firefall and GW2 look less themepark than this one.

But hey, if you enjoy the game, don't feel ashamed or bad about it merely bc it's a themepark MMO and not some wildly innovative MMO or a sandbox hybrid. Having fun is what it's about in the end, not what MMO or type of MMO design you're having it in.

It'll be interesting to see though how MMO gamers who lost their taste for themepark mechanics will feel after playing TERA for some time, but I guess that only time can tell.

I just canceled my preoder for that reason that the above poster mentioned. I loved the combat and learned how to play cause it is different from other mmorpg at start but it's very themepark and linear. Also quests like many other said before are all kill 5 or 10 of these mobs. I was going to play because many K-Tera players told me it's a large open world game and I would love to explore but it isn't that way, actually I thought I was going to die from claustrophobia that's how small the wold feels. Watch out for the invisible walls guys and teleport everywere makes the game even smaller for me personally.

Katana I don't know what you are talking about...ever, everytime you post.

You wanna' know what I did? I climbed over all the mountains and explored everywhere for 5 hours straight(made it to level 40-45 zones, I even got into an area not even finished yet, no mobs lmao. Wow, it's so linear, I was about to die from claustrophobia.

These picture show how cramped and claustrophobic the world makes you feel. I only found all these places in one day and almost none of them were the regions for my level.

You just said it yourself: "I climbed over all the mountains and explored everywhere for 5 hours straight(made it to level 40-45 zones, I even got into an area not even finished yet, no mobs lmao." that is what I mean you saw the whole world in 5 hours as low level too that's how small the world is.

I didn't literally mean everywhere, pardon my wording, I meant everywhere we can actually possibly travel too, I may have traveled through 1/3rd of the zones in the game, just by using the horse. We can't even access the other continent in the event and it is much larger and has many more zones.

WoW must be tiny then by your logic, because in 5 hours I sure as hell can fly/mount through most zones, must be linear and tiny.

I really mean this to anyone that is liking TERA have fun and I'm happy you found a game to enjoy. I'm not here to troll TERA like I said the combat was very nice but overall wasn't my cup of tea. I hope this year I find a game to keep me busy too been too much off and on in different games and I'm getting tired with the genre as a whole.

Plus Graphic looks amazing and runs amazingly well and optimised on any machine.

Bit late on that, Darkfalls had this for years. Are there instances in TERA? If not, it's not an open world worth playing it.

why do so many people have such a strong opinion after the first CBT?  The T does stand for TEST.

there were some invisible walls, but i figure they were put there to tell us no, not yet.

crafting did look kind of expensive, but this isnt launch maybe they are going to listen to feedback and try to figure out what the actual prices will be.

yeah the Newbie Zone was very easy, which mmo makes the starting tutorial zone super uber difficult.  and for all we know the hp of the mobs could have been adjusted for the Beta TEST.

did the starting zone seem kind of linear? yeah it was a quest chain essentially that ended with you flying to the first major city.  the starter zone wasnt connected to the rest of the world how else were they supposed to do it.

IMO people are too quick to either Praise or Bash these new games based on the beta tests.  Just try to tell us about your experience. I'm sick of hearing "No they lied to us, everything youve heard is false, i canceled my order because......) it's a test you guys it's not a trial or the actual game itself yet.  We're testing the game out for them so they can try to and hopefully get it right.

    I've got the straight edge.

lol, maybe people have different tastes in games?

also, peoples expectations for tera were a lot lower. i have some huge gripes with it, but i never went into it expecting to be a longterm game for me. for one thing, need more character development options, not just cookie cutter classes.. but still, it has the potential to be a fun game for a while.

also, it does have a much more open zone style. doesnt feel as funneled and linear, and that alone makes a huge difference to some of us. otoh, doesnt seem to have day/night cycles or weather, but thats where those lower expectations probably save it from people complaining much about stuff like that. and helps that the world feels more alive in some basic ways so that people arent struck with the need to figure out why it doesnt.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Exactly what i am saying, of course if you don't PVP in Tera you will miss the best of the game.

Benn playing mmorpg since 2002 (10 years) and from all the betas I played/tested havn't seen one to give us a different game at release, what the beta had was pretty much it.

Also TERA has been out for what a year now in Korea? This is not a real beta considering the game has allready been out elsewere. Say they listen to the playerbase testers and what next? EnMasse will tell BlueHole to change the game? or will it be Frogster telling BlueHole to change the game with what their playerbase is asking?

Very refreshing gameplay indeed (combat), hopefully this game will serve as a wake up call for future MMOs to bring something refreshing to combat before they even attempt to release. This game seems to have broadened the appeal because IMO it has a chance with the folks that enjoy action games and/or find themselves bored themselves with the current generic MMO combat gameplay.

The combat from this game made me completely overlook the generic questing text and linear paths offered, because combat feels that fun compared to previous targeting titles that I didn't mind grabbing quests without reading the text and using the tracker functions to find out the mob locations (but, as I mentioned, I completely ignored all quest text except for the absolute necessary which is offered through highlighted text on the quest log or clickable text on the tracker  that can be clicked to create map waypoints showing spawn locations and on rare occasions in which there is no highlighted "hyperlink" text actually read text to find out the objective).
