I say good riddance. We have a good community, and it's big, and it will be even bigger at launch, thats good enough for me. It's not how many players you have but its the quality of the community they build. WoW has 600k players, spread over tiny communities full of assholes who offer nothing to the game but nerf calls and whining. I'll stick with MXO, both for gameplay, and for community. P.S. I live in NY, and you don't see a different building every step you take -- do I have to take pictures of my neighborhood to prove that? I hope not. Theres a lot of beautiful architecture in the game, really do some exploration.
Hey Syg, I'm with you on the support of MxO, and I think you know that. However, it is my belief that whenever you take an out-of-the-blue potshot at WoW (which you've done more than once), you're just doing to that game exactly what you hate people doing to MxO. In short, it's hypocrytical.
Not being an ass, just pointing that out.
Not taking potshots, I know the community is crap. I predicted even before it came out. Not even rocket science -- the BNET Kiddies play it, its a kiddy looking game so of course kids want to play it. It all adds up. Many other factors. If someone came up with a seemingly legitimate reasoning behind saying that about MXO, I don't care. I mean, I know so many people who play WoW, personally, and I've been on the boards, and seen most of the nonsense at least second hand at a friends house and what have you. It's not entirely 'out of the blue'.
Originally posted by protoroc still havent responded on wheres the danger, sygmas, stop dodging that issue....come i know u can come up with something...when i think about an MMO based on the matrix, i think of a world of absolute danger, not this BS logging on and chatting with your friends at some bar, or none of this showing off your new uber pair of sunglasses
Uh..theres danger. Many activities run the risk of Agent intervention.
Data Node Tapping for too long Staying in restricted zones for too long without an access node for the area (I'm sure you can find all sorts of adrenaline rush Agent chasings due to restricted zones, I've had my fair share thats for sure) Agent intervention on missions Agent intervention from spending too much time in a mission area.
Can be pretty dangerous. As for cops?
Many buildings are guarded by security like in the matrix lobby thing. Totally non mission related, they still have security. If you want proof look in my screenshot galleries. One of them you'll see my guild leader outside a skyscraper surrounded by security guards.
Once again where are the cops? where are the blue pills that are calling law enforcement to stop you from killing everyone in a mission building. where is the danger? where is the excitement? these are all issues that will leave a bad taste in the mouths of matrix fans everywhere....as i said before Enter the Matrix was far more "matrixy" then MxO could ever hope to be
Yeah like I said this is the key element that made it hard for me to "accept" the environment. The fact that as a human(Zionist) a lot of your missions are dedicated toward freeing others from the matrix, it implies that the world is populated with lots of "normal" people. The reality in game just does not support this element of the storyline. In any given area at this stage of beta there are more operatives that citizens running around. I too found this such a break in the suspension of disbeleif that I just havnt been able to get past it. I find it colors my attitude toward many other elements of the game.

Wonderful -- so what MMO are you going to play? Thats the big question in my mind. Obviously this has so many flaws. Heres food for thought. The SINGLE PLAYER experience, which has been around for 20 years+ has not become totally immersive yet. There have been crazy innovations in the last few years to create immersion in single player experiences, the MMO genre is new, take anything you see in these games that remotely resembles a single player experience as a lot more than its worth. Because you arent going to see that level of immersion for awhile im guessing.
I mean in just recent years First Player Shooters have really been paying attention to having a storyline. Previously it didnt matter. This genre is growing -- let it grow in baby steps thats how it works. MXO is not a revolution, its a familiar game with many innovations on the table. And it plans on being most innovative with its storyline. Which none of us, not even myself, can comment on yet. Sheesh.
I been playing EQ2 since final Beta and I love it. Just keeps getting better. 35 Ranger / 35 Weaponsmith.
But its not a competition and there is no right or wrong. Just opinions.

Data Node Tapping for too long ive done this for about 5 hour straight with no reprocussions Staying in restricted zones for too long without an access node for the area (I'm sure you can find all sorts of adrenaline rush Agent chasings due to restricted zones, I've had my fair share thats for sure) i purposely never got access nodes in attempt to see this mythical agent kick my ass Agent intervention on missions Agent intervention from spending too much time in a mission area. Once again ive never seen one of these mythical agents, except for the occasional talking npc
oh those security guys i seen them....they stay in thier little office and are nothing more then optional xp
I love it syg, your rabid fanboiism, causes you to ignore the completely valid points that irk me about the game, and im not the only one who thinks this things, these points i mention, are in the MxO beta forums on an almost weekly basis. imo u must not be much of a fan of the movies, if you were youd know this is a horrible game to tack the matrix licence to and can only harm the series as SWG did to star wars, tbh MxO would be ALOT cooler if it wasnt based in the matrix universe
Game runs on hgihest setting and still does look that great. I really do feel COH has better graphics and a much better engine not laggy or FPS crappy. I can run Everquest2 on EXTREME mode and actually play. some screen lag but that means my machine can handle the best. MXO fps is terrible for its graphic quality. Not even close to EQ2 and it runs like ass.
The gameplay? Boring. After fighting about 400 NPC its all the same. Sure you can be anything ya want to be. Bored being a cleric? upload your fighting stuff and become a soldier. I think this kind of stuff makes the game seem well...unlimited and kind of boring.
MXO is not for me I will stick with COH at least when COV comes out I know badass PVP will be in. PVP in MXO sucks.
Wonderful -- so what MMO are you going to play? Thats the big question in my mind. Obviously this has so many flaws. Translation - all mmorpg's suck, so might as well play this one right ? Heres food for thought. The SINGLE PLAYER experience, which has been around for 20 years+ has not become totally immersive yet. There have been crazy innovations in the last few years to create immersion in single player experiences, the MMO genre is new, take anything you see in these games that remotely resembles a single player experience as a lot more than its worth. Because you arent going to see that level of immersion for awhile im guessing. Translation - Since single player rpg suck even more, like Enter the Matrix, we all might as well play something else that also sucks...but sucks a bit less. Since its new, we should just accept the fact that its going to suck.
I mean in just recent years First Player Shooters have really been paying attention to having a storyline. Previously it didnt matter.
It didnt matter because ultimatey the game play experience itself was priority #1. The storyline was secondary, and if good was simply the cherry on top of a really good slice of pie. Think Fallout 2 or KOTOR for great game topped off with great story.
This genre is growing -- let it grow in baby steps thats how it works. MXO is not a revolution, its a familiar game with many innovations on the table. And it plans on being most innovative with its storyline. Which none of us, not even myself, can comment on yet. Sheesh.
The problem with this game Matrix online is simple really, and the devs and you practically admit this. You can see right through it...."the story the story the story, wait for the story, etc. The story isnt going to save this game. I dont care if Stephen King wrote it. The gameplay sucks and in the end no great written text is gonna save it. You can have the most tasty succulent frosting ever baked but nobody is going to take a bite if that frosting is smeared on a top of pile of crap.

I'm sorry but the game is still *very* bad.
Not a game I would like, it feels so...empty. I don't know, maybe I'm just too used to fantasy games now.
