2012 MMO Predictions

The GW2 naysayers will end up shoving both feet in their mouth, and will likely go on to sell around 3.5-4m copies in 2012, and even more in 2013 as word of mouth spreads.

ToR will even out at around 250k subs.

Tera will flop in the west.

TSW will go unnoticed by many and as a result will never see much success.

2012 will be like 2011. Some major titles, but none will live up to the expectations. The interesting PC MMOs will be delayed until 2013. Some Single Player RPG for PC and Console will steal the show once again this year (which one remains to be seen).

Since Dominus is using the same HeroEngine that SWTOR is using, I'll say that Dominus will not take over as de factor pvp game from anyone. :( HeroEngine has got to be one of the worst engines to be released in the last ten years.

I would agree if i had not taken part in an early Alpha test of the then unnamed Prime, and guess what even in early Alpha the  engine blew SWTOR out of the water,Even the devs from The Repopulation have stated that Bioware only used certain tools and not Hero to it's full potential, there are over 100 dev companies working on Mo's and standard games with the engine !!

Ouch, so what does that say about Bioware? I do like the guys who are Dominus, I'd been watching their videos when I go over and remember. They seem like nice guys. If they can make HeroEngine work a lot better then Bioware, then I'll give it a try.

The Dominus people have said the exact same thing about SWTOR as The Repopulation team.  They said Bioware took the Hero Engine and tweaked it so much it barely resembles the Vanilla Hero Engine.

One of the reasons I'm really looking forward to beta testing Dominus is to see just how much of a difference there is between the two.  If Dominus is technically sound it is going to make Bioware look really really incompetant.

GW2 will attract many but lose a lot of actives after the first month. People will realize its still a reskinned theme park.
Mortal online will increase sub numbers.
Wow will get an initial bump but then fall further.
Swtor will continue to lose subs but then increase when the next expansion is announced.
TSW will start better than expected but won't break any records.
Salem will start slow but have a dedicated following.
    VG will go FTP.
AA will be popular but not as much as people expect. It will not be enuf sandbox for sandbox fans and too Grindy for themeparkers.

As a B2P it doesnt need to maintain them, it just needs to bring them back with every expansion.

Serious PvPers who arent just after shiny gear which makes them better than newbies will play GW2 (just like they still play GW1), even if its just on the side as a PvP fix. PvE players will probably lose interest after playing a few classes, since the carrot on a stick isnt as great as the themeparks.

Thanks guys i feel vindicated, well i'll wager Dominus and The Repopulation show more creativity in their Alpha/Beta's than Bioware do in the lifetime of SWTOR unless they do a Bethesda and actually start to make their product better.

    (1) I think it'll be difficult to account for the number of subscribers but I think Guild Wars 2 will sell 1.8 million units worldwide.

    (2) SW:TOR will hold steady at about 800,000 active subscribers

    (3)  Secret World will be lucky to get 300,000 Subscribers

    (4) Tera will also have about 300,000 subscribers

    (5) WoW will still be the most popular game but Mists of Panderan will have little to no effect on retaining subscribers.

    (6) We'll all be playing Diablo 3

I predict ZeniMax Online reveals what they are working on any month now AND announces a late 2012 release date. This MMO will be the big hit of 2012.

Are we supposed to be impressed by that screenshot?

The only thing that Animu inspired screenshot is going to rock is the contents of my stomach. TERA is dead on arrival in the West.  Most Americans/europeans do NOT want to play a game with an anime artstyle. This will be proven true very soon.

Care to name a few to watch out for? I'm drawing a blank on this one.

    Gladly!

    ArcheAge

    Dawntide

    Salem

    Embers of Caerus

    Darkfall 2.0

Now mind you some of these might now be worth anything but they all have potential.

    • Turbine will announce the project they have been working on

    • Mobile apps and official web portals that allow interaction with your guild and limited game features will become commonplace by the end of the year (yes, I know some exist already)

    • SOE will revamp the Station Pass and Station Cash to accommodate a unified platform for currency across all its games.

    • The big F2P powerhouses will consolidate into a smaller number of large stables of F2P games

    • Hack-n-slash dungeon running will see a revival

    • ARGs will evolved from a marketing tool to a new form of mixed-reality gaming

    Those are my predictions.

Well...I'm a HUGE fan of Darkfall...but lets be honest...Darkfall 2.0 is nothing more than vaporware...Adventurine is a trash company.  The game is great...but until they get a better team, 2.0 won't happen.  Another false promise

World of Darkness and Life is Feudal as well.

Games like EvE, Mortal Online, and Perpetuum are still out there, too.

     Heh , I'll start off slow ;

Dust 514 (Huge EVE-Online fan and player , so it's a no brainer that i'll be getting it)

Planetside 2 ( Liked PS 1 and will be buying PS 2)

End of Nations  (really hope this releases soon!)

The above games will be the new trend for the MMO world , it's safe to say that people are getting abit sick and tired of the old "deja vu" elves and magic MMOs

More on CCP's World of Darkness will be announced *drooling*

Tera will come and go like the wind

ArcheAge will show SWTOR what success really means

GW2 will start off strong , but I'm having a feeling it won't have the same feel as GW1 , so will start to decline a few months after release

    FF14 will still be garbage

    Rift will still hold strong

WoW will lose subs but never fear as D3 will grab them all back

    TL 2 will crush D3

EVE & Dust 514 gets GOTY award for a brilliant conception.

More and more disappointing cookie-cutter MMO's will flood the market, people will complain, but continue to play and pay for them, continuing their revolutions on the hamster wheel of the mediocre as the MMORPG market strays even further from it's roots and closer to becoming the same games you can play on XBox360 and PS3, until some dev grows the beanbags to use their brains and create something with imagination and substance that can last beyond a month or two.

    Ok, prediction time, fun fun:

TERA~~ I think TERA will do OK especially during the early going.  Not fantastic, but not a flop either.  And it's certainly not "dead on arrival" in NA/EU.  A good percentage of the feedback from CBT1 already proves this so stop being silly :P  It may eventually go F2P.

TSW~~ I'm really interested in this, but somehow I think it disappoints a little.  It will be a niche game with a loyal following comprised of those looking for something a little different.  It won't see the same steep dropoff of subs that Age of Conan did, but then again it won't sell as many boxes as Conan did either.

GW2~~ Well this is just going to sell a crapton of boxes.  But will the hype pan out?  dun dun dun (lol, I have no idea)

    C9~~ Steals a chunk of Vindictus's playerbase.

    That's all I've got.

    pie.
