So you think TERA will succeed because a bunch of closed beta testers say they like it? Those people are into anime inspired korean games. Of course they will say they love it. They desperately wanted to CBT the game.

The rest of America will not however. You can count on that. And it WILL go F2P, very quickly.

Based on the first beta weekend with Tera. I do not believe it will rock the MMO world but I do think it will generate some decent interest. It will be interesting to see what they do post-launch to keep subscribers intereted.

They'll all fail and we'll all still be here moaning.

Look at this guy and his assumptions, I hate [filtered] like this.  I'd like to bet it won't go F2P and hold a decent playerbase as the endgame, slight sandbox features and interactive combat on a large scale MMO will be very appealing to many/. Nevermind it has the best graphics of any MMO out or in testing.

Filtering because mods here are deadly.

Everyone will suddenly realize that MMOs are for entertainment and they will accept the fact that none of them are perfect. Then we will all find the ones we enjoy the most and share our experiences, strategies, walkthroughs and discoveries about them.

The forums will be about discussing MMOs that we actually play and enjoy. Constructive feedback will actually be constructive and contain real feedback. The moderators will all go into shock and join a monastery.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

  • jinxxed0jinxxed0 Member UncommonPosts: 841

They're supposed to be entertainment, but they're just busy work that feel a need to put money into. "If you just hang in there and do this, i'll get this and when i have a bunch of this, i can finally get that. when i have a ton of that, i can then finally get the thing i want." Then once you have the thing you want, you go after something else, but in most cases, the process is long, tiring, and boring. The graphical interface and the 3D virtual world make it seem like a game, but its just a light switch and we're just rats. Seriously. Think about what you do in an MMO. Is it really fun watching your character kill thousands of things and running from NPC to NPC?

LOL wishful tinking or just mad?

    My predictions:

    1. GW2 will sell 3-5 million copies the first 6 months.

    2. WoW will lose another 800k+ subscriptions in the West but pick up a Million or so in the east.

    3. TSW will quietly become a great MMO and Funcom will FINALLY release a stable and good game.

    4. TERA will flail around and be no more popular then SWTOR is now or Rift 2 months after release.

    5. ArcheAge will still not see a Western Publisher.

    6. 1 maybe 2 major MMO's will close down (My predictions are DAoC, WAR or EQ2)

    7. Copernicus MMO from Curt, R.A., and Todd will finally see mass advertisement and will be a SandPark MMO based on the Amalur settings in a future date after Reckoning's timeline.  The Combat will revolutionary and be very similar to the single player RPG.

    8. Everquest Next will be all hype and offer little more then a WoW clone.

    9. Goblinworks sandbox MMO will be a quiet hit.

Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online

    Playing: GW2
    Waiting on: TESO
    Next Flop: Planetside 2
Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.

Uh yeah. Look at me with my assumptions in a thread about predicting the future. Crazy amirite?

None of TERA's super awesome features will matter because Western audiences DO........NOT.........WANT to play an animu game with tiny cat women with giant breasts and 10 foot swords.

Honestly. I cannot tell you which games will succeed for sure.....but I can tell you which ones will certainly fail. And that game is TERA. You can take that prediction to Vegas and bet your life on it pal.

MOP releases with a major surprise, large parts of the game are reverted back to Vanilla in hard-mode.

    Well I can wish, can't I ?

    My feelings are like this:

    - GW2 will sell a lot of copies, at least on par with TOR. People will have higher expectations from the game and in time most of them will "leave". Most people tend to like structure and order, aka "i log in, i do this and that, i log out". Walking around waiting for things to "happen" will be fun for most people at start but will become stale really quick. In about 6 months the game will become a really nice relaxed and fun place to be, like its predecesor. The devs will follow their strong principles and won't fall for the qq'ers. After 6 months, GW2's first "expansion" will launch.

    - TSW will have a slow start, will be another great game with lots of potential but not too many players. A niche game. The difference between veterans and new players will make the later ones feel overwhelmed (like starting to play EvE or Anarchy Online from scratch now)

    - Trion will cross the final line in terms of discounts and will finally pay us to play Rift.

    - TOR will be in 6 months what Rift is now, wait 4 months, play one month, get all the new content done, wait another 4 months, etc.

    - WoW will still be WoW, people will finally realise that WoW resembles Microsoft - surely not the "best" product, will continue to receive a lot of critics from the "pro's", but in the end a very solid product which does not let you down. The sub numbers will rise after the people who "waited" for TOR will accept the idea "TOR is a POS, i've been tricked into paying 60 bucks plus a few monthly subs for it" and go back to WoW. It's a difficult decision to make after months or years of pre-launch fanboyism.

    - Diablo III will launch and action-RPG players will play that (lol Tera lol).

    - The name "Archeage" will slowly fade with time and never see the light of western market

Ok the third one is a stretch... i still hold firmly on the 2 other tough :)

Mists of Pandaria will release in August, and be well received.  However WoW's subs will still go down, slightly, for the year.

Guild Wars 2 will not sell nearly as well as people think it will and will sell more copies in 2013 as it does in 2012

The Secret World will have great promise but will have major issues after launch.  It will have a small, but loyal playerbase.

TERA will be the most heatedly discussed game in 2012, and the haters will win out as the west just cant latch on to it.  150k subs by year end, tops.

Free to play for both vanguard and EQ1 wont make a huge splash, but Planetside 2 will make SoE relevant again and EQNext antcipation will be high.  DCUO will enjoy a better year than most people expect.

the two that i cant predict at all:  SWTOR and Rift.

If 1.2 launches smoothly SWTOR could have a very good year and by dec 20 2012 its the game that people expected dec 20 2011.  If 1.2 does not go well it could be a long year.

And Rift all depends on the exansion.  No expansion in 2012?  Rift goes from 16 to 10 servers by year end.  Rift has an expansion of exclusively level 50+ content?  It holds steady, maybe a slight decline.  A large expansion that adds new races, startng zones, and 30+ content to go with the 50+ content?  Rift shoots up to 500-600k subs.  these numbers are western subs, who knows how Rift china will do.

I'm gonna throw this out there because no one seems to be talking about it.  FFXIV is in the midst of completely redesigning the entire game and relaunching to FFXIV 2.0 this summer.  In the meantime, PC users who are still playing are going to be able to experience the world change first hand, where a series of events in game will cause the changes that are happening to the world--content that will NOT be available after the relaunch.

Check out the pdf files at the end of this page.  My prediction is FFXIV is about to make an epic comeback because square-enix has been pouring money into the project and refusing to let it die.

    Oh 3 more
Details of everquest next and copernicus will emerge, both will be hugely disappointing wow clones
Details of the zenimax mmo will be revealed - gw2 looses its "saviour of the mmo genre" status.
  • VaultarVaultar Member Posts: 339

    1. Gw2 quickly becomes the next best thing. 5 million+ sales by the end of year.

    2. playerbase in SWTOR on a rapid decline.

    3. playerbase in WoW on a steady but far slower decline.

    4. Rift continues to do ok but will also suffer steady decline albeit slower than compared to WoW.

Yes I am a big gw fan. However, even if I look at it rationally, I cannot see the results being otherwise other than being even more extreme than what I have predicted except for no. 1 as it is already a pretty lofty prediction :P hehe.

Looking forward to EQL and EQN.

No, I said it won't be "dead on arrival", as in no one plays it, based on CBT alone.  How else can I interpret "dead on arrival" to mean?  Care to elaborate?

As far as TERA's longer term success goes, that's all just speculation on anyone's part right now.  Success is a very subjective term anyway.  Some people might think 200,000 subs *for example* for TERA after its first 30-days is a big fail, while others may see the same number as a success, ya know?

EDIT: I picked 200,000 subs after 30-days to help with the example.  I think there's a good chance it will be higher than that in actuality.

    pie.

Natural disasters strike everywhere around the world... making all my time spent killing zombies, crafting things in MMOs and my experience building a guild from the ground up invaluable. Eventually, we start our own community in the wastelands and develop a pecking order that revolves around something called the "Thunderdome".

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

SWTOR subs will fall to low 300k's and continue to decline.

GW2 will sell a crap ton of boxes, and people will rage here because it isn't what they expected, but a solid following of 500k-1 Million users will frequent the game.

Diablo 3 and DOTA 2 will both make a huge impact in their genres.  Diablo 3 will likely hurt GW2 in some ways, but also other MMO's.  Diablo 3 and GW2 together with no sub fees will have people question why they are wasting time on shallow MMO's.

The Secret World will launch with skepticism, and any little thing that happens will be blown out of proportion because it is Funcom.  It will build up a large playerbase and overtake SWTOR in subs and bring honor back to Funcom.

Predictions yet you are certain TERA will fail, well, maybe we aren't all gun wielding hillbillies who only like boring landscapes of constantly repeated themes like Skryim. I'd like a little colour in a game.

If you're too blind to think TERA is only about ANIMU cat women, you are just being ignorant. TERA is a jack of all trades, theres a race and zones for everyone. The versatility in the zones and races in that game I haven't seen in many other games, or any at all.

Look I attached some of that gay ANIMU style, it doesn't look good at all compared to WoW or SW:TORs cartoons man. Not like GW2 doesn't have their own really odd race like TERA or anything...you know what i'm talking about. Lol.

I think your right except for Tor.  In a few months it will be a ghost town.  People have been leaving in waves.

I hope you're right.  I really do want to see TSW do well.  I plan to try this and TERA.  I love the whole idea of 3 factions working together against the darkness, but in reality they're "frenemies".  Of course the setting and lore is going to be cool as well.  We shall see! :)

I predict that a whole lot of garbage MMOs will launch and that none of them will have anything new to offer.
