It just doesn`t appeal to me, something about the combat and the way the effects are used it is just meh. Animations also seem meh.

Also all the footage i`ve seen from the fight with `that dragon` looked really lame, besides how badass the actual dragon was.

Edit: Besides all the features it`s bringing, it really does look like a b2p game.

    No OP. Just no.

All i see going for this game are great graphics and a more active combat. Besides that...meh..and on top of that its a sub based mmo game.

Looking forward to EQL and EQN.

I suppose if you're really adverse to hotkeys then ya, it would seem meh. But in practice it feels really good, more like an action MMO than a traditional hotkey RPG due to how skills chain together. And the dragon battle is epic when you're in it yourself, as there's so much going on :) But watching someone who's bad at the game doesn't do it justice, which most gameplay videos are :D

But still, as always, i just recommend you try the beta if you can, as you'll know for yourself :) If it doesn't appeal, then at least you can tell gw2 fanboys you did give it a go and it wasn't for you (i'd imagine they'll be pretty rabid after the beta, so i think i'll hide away from forums :p) If it does, then because it's B2P you don't have to put TERA on hold. I'm pretty sure the two different play styles will mean they're a great combo to have.

However, to address the OP. To think TERA will 'give gw2 a run for it's money' is complete insanity. TERA is a niche game, GW2 is going to be treated by the media as the next big thing, just wait until Monday. It'd be like thinking a baby could take on a full grown boxer, the baby could win if for some reason the boxer dies before the fight, but apart from that? not a chance.

That's not to say TERA is bad though, but overall it's not what many people are that interested in. An overly sexualised, asian style (in terms of structure) game with better combat than many MMO's will have it's audience, deservedly so, but it's not a 'top selling' game. Appreciate TERA for what it is, don't hope for what it isn't.

So, in essence, i'm calling it here: TERA will only see mild success at best. Possibly evening out at 25k subs. But I don't think any of those 25k people will be losing out by the game not somehow selling more than what will be the biggest MMO this year.

Youve honestly posted your same opinion in this thread like 3 times, and youve been negative in other TERA threads. I should just go start talking bad all over GW2 threads, like GW2 people seem to do everywhere on the internet.

Every youtube video for any upcoming game, any stream for any game, any board for any game. ITS B2P, we get it, its going to have millions of you ravenous fanboys or girls, but stick to your board with it.

I liked the gw2 community more before all those little kids started paying attention to the game, you know, when the real guild wars fans were there. *sigh* i guess it's only going to get worse after Monday when all the big sites sing it's praises. Even gw2guru, a forum that's been a really awesome community to be part of, is starting to attract self entitled twats who i would like to do nothing more than ban from ever playing gw2.

My advice to people in other game forums? Just ignore them, they're just the same brand of twat that whine and whine about the press having a beta but not them. The gw2 community hates them just as much as you do, if not more.

Competitor? Tera is a sub game and GW2 is free with p2p production standard.

The recently unveiled DAOC style pvp is another huge boost to an already very promising game.

There is a reason why Tera failed in every other region it has launched. Dont expect some westernization or added content to magically rescue the game.

Good to hear some of you are normal, I didn`t know much about GW2 before I started following TERA closely, through doing so I learned around the same amount about GW2.

I`ve spent enough time in TERA streams, videos and forum sections to get about all the gw2 information there is to give. The worst part I find is that almost none of them have played it 99.9% have not even played the game yet. It`s so horribly annoying.

I know, a lot of them aren't even quite sure about the mechanics themselves! Which is why they get so angry and defensive, because they're essentially unsure about what they're actually saying. I've been following GW2 since the very first trailer, and the attitude recently from the 'community' is simply appaling. It's a pity because i believe the game itself is shaping up the be the exact thing i've been waiting for since i first started gaming! It's really strange how many of my past 'you know what would be cool?' thoughts are in Guild wars 2 :) I also got a chance to play it at eurogamer last year, which confirmed to me they were getting it right.

But why they all feel the need to so constantly and vehemently attack other games i just don't have a clue. Games have issues, sure, all games do, and so will guild wars 2 (admittedly i can't think of any, yet, but again the game is basically exactly what i want, preferences are a big deal) but to constantly appear in every thread/video shouting 'ZOMG GW2 BETTAR THIS GAME SUX!' is getting very old, very quickly.

I'd have to agree with Pivotelite, the graphics just don't do it for me...It almost looks like an upgraded version of WoW imo.

At the same-time it doesn't mean GW2 it self will fail, I'm actually looking for forward to the Dynamic Events part of questing. At least for me I know I will be entertained, just how TERA does with its unique qualities it brings.

GW2 just has some minor things I don't think I'll like right off the get-go:

    1. "Much like in Guild Wars, the skill bar in Guild Wars 2 is limited to a set number of skills." - To simple for me imo, also cuz its tab targeting...How hard can that really be?

    2. "The first five skills on the skill bar are not slotted directly by the player; instead they are determined by the player's choice of weapon and profession."  -  Hmm...so I have to carry with me tons of different weapons to be able to use the skills I want. Better have a ton of inventory space, cuz we're going to need it..

    3. Another thing that comes to mind, is how the server going to be able to handle everything happeing at once? If Dynamic Events will be happening at different times in GW2, that will put alot of strain on the server. Its more than likely that they will have to control each zone, by seperating them (having loading screens for each zone) Kinda like what they did in FFXI. - Meh

Other than a few minor things, I still think GW2 will be a fine MMO to play...Most likely I will be playing GW2 and TERA, though the one thing I like about GW2 is that its B2P... Yep..

Thanks :D same for you and TERA.

    1) To the poster above me: The skill bars can be swapped out at any time when not in combat :) I found that a restricted skill bar makes combat more complicated if anything, when you're limited you have to think about how to deal with the situation not just reach into the massive toolbox and just use the skill for that situation :) But, of course, that's preference. Traits do add a lot of depth to skills though. There's a lot of customisation :D I quite like that aspect of it, since you're always different to another player.

    2) Weapons: now that indeed would be an issue but i'm almost certain you'll have a seperate equipment bag available like there is in guild wars 1. If not, it's something they should add ASAP! If nothing else, fast travel makes merchant runs far less of an issue. But obviously lugging around potentially 8 weapons for some classes (if you use them all in different situations) wouldn't be desirable. Thanks for pointing that out though! It's something i hadn't thought about before and i'll see if i can dig up any more information on it. If i find anything i can pop you a PM if you want :)

    3) The press beta will give us all the information we need on that front. I wouldn't worry about it though, they have done vast amount of testing, and all maps will have had around 300 people minimum on them at once several times already when they do 'all team' tests. They know that each WvW map can handle around 500 (2000 total in a game) players just fine at the moment too.

I honestly don't care if people like GW2 or not. The only time I would get involved in "defending" GW2, or any other game for that matter, is if a person was posting an uninformed comment. Then I would attempt to correct the person.

I don't get payed by Enmasse or ArenaNet and I have no stake in the success or failure of these games. The only thing I care about is if the games are fun for me.

Yeh it does get old pretty quick.. I don't get why people do that either, get so competitive over a product they didn't build themselves.

Every MMO will have its strengths and weaknesses, to me the ultimate goal is to finally have an MMO with all the strengths and highlights put into one ultimate MMO. That would be insane!  :)

Providing false information, and in the first post not even relating to the topic, just straight out bashing TERA, on the TERA boards.

SWTOR have sold over 2 million copies so doing worse than that wouldn´t really be a big deal.

I tried TERA last weekend and thought it was actually pretty good, I might even buy it. Good graphics, none Wow combat but the quests were not that good. Still, not a bad game.

But I still don´t see it going right up against GW2. Both games have in different ways a more action oriented combat but GW2s DEs seems more interesting than TERAs rather basic tests and PvP wise the mists just sounds more fun. GW2s team is also more experienced even if some TERA guys worked for NC soft before.

TERA is going up against games like TSW and I think it cn do pretty well. But it wont get a million western subs, in fact is there only Wow who have been able to keep more subs than that for a longer period even if it is possible that TOR can as well (I have my doubts but anything can happen). 350-500K players is well possible.

The post from the guy being tired of quests really isn´t something against TERA personally but all quest driven games, and frankly might he have a point, MMO quests have basically been the same since I logged on my first time on Meridian 59 in 1996 and were told to kill 10 rats by the first npc I saw.

I have my doubts about TERA being a stolen product though, to me it sounds like NC soft just got upset on their old employees for making their own MMO but that is for the court to decide.

I only got this point because I got sick of having to see it everywhere, and I see her comment as an uninformed one.

She called the game shallow based on just the quests and then said it's just cotton candy visuals and a stolen game to boot.

Indeed, it is basically the equivalent of calling GW2 a WoW clone really :p Just try doing that on a youtube comments section!

"I predict it will do worse than SWTOR.  GW2 has a large fan following, TERA is a stolen product full of cotton candy visuals.

Now think about it...What if TERA and every other MMO that came after GW2, implemented some sort of dynamic questing system. Wouldn't that be interesting? I think it would be a great addition.
