TERA - One foot in the grave?

Pretty interesting blog post regarding TERAs future in NA/EU based on its performance in Asia. Brings up some points I haven't really seen posted elsewhere.

It's all theorycrafting, but still the future does look rather bleak for the game considering its previous performance.

As of right now in Korea,  Tera is the 4th most played mmo in Korea and the 7th overall game played in Korea.

News I had not seen before, thanks for the link.

Wow, they just continue to flame TERA eh.

Has no idea endgame content has been added, has no idea it's doing good in Korea and has no idea it's a PvP centric game...lol "it has no PvP".

Has no idea it failed in Japan because the sub fee is $35 USD per month.

Not that they actually have released any updates. This game is not a beta, regardless of what anyone might think, this game has been out for over a year, yet there has been absolutely zero content added to the game in Korea.

That quote sums up how little knowlegde they have.

"The game has been out in Korea for over a year and the hype it received during the beta / release was very similar to what we are seeing over here now."

Heh, will gamers ever learn? Nevermind, don't answer that one.

Except it released on Korea with literally no content, it has content now, so your post is irrelevant.

Did you see how old the articles are, talking about news from S-Korea?

As soon as he said 'fanboy' I stopped.

This is just a random opinion blog, and a pretty badly written one at that, that makes no effort to represent any reasons why this game might succeed in the EU or US with the changes it has seen and a new publisher and overcome it's early issues, choosing instead to focus only on the negative.

As ever, I question the balance in what's being written, the unspoken agenda for bothering to do so, and the integrity of the writer.

On all three this blog piece fails for me.

Lol, overhype for games? Irrelevant? Hahaha, ok...

BTW, you kinda answered my question too rofl.

Along with Gamebreaker, Mushroom mayhem has been hating on TERA since long before it's release, I think they don't like the style and would hate for any of their followers or guildies go to this game.

    Ahh I see... I didn't know that.

It came through in the writing though truth be told.

They arent actually numbers though.  Ranking, but not numbers.   Americans drink a lot of cola, so RC cola being (probably) the third most popular cola must do quite well, right?

Don't feed the troll guys.... check how many posts he has and when he registered and what he says.

TERA made an impression that we have not seen in a long time and is bringing a game based on skill and how the player plays not same old dame old gear wins all bs.

so after one year, there been what content added? oh iforgot none yet really its still in testing, how can you say one patch, and another patch which didnt launch in korea yet, equal to content after such long time?

    just tell me how,

maybe it will  launc in eu  with second patch, then you will have what 4 dungeons? 1 raid? and housing, thats it, and year latter you will get another 2 dungeons and raid maybe,

i always find it funny how people defend unreleased game content, OH LOOK AT SWTOR IT HAVE DUNGEONS, HEROICS, RAIDS , PVP, thats what they kept telling me, when i said horrible endgame, and who was right month latter..

mmo content will never be fast enough for consumers, we have 9999 pots about it, wow isnt dying because of all other games, or because its old, it does because it litteraly gets 2 patches a year, it used to do 3-4 at release, and most considered it slow

trion does every 2-3 months , and we all are in shock how fast that is, in reality that isnt nowhere near the speed we consume content

defending tera by saying that it will have content is beyond stupid, and cant be even comperehnded by anyone smart enough

4 dungeons and 1 raid ,1.5 year since release =/= content, sure for 2 weeks, what then will you wait another year for next patch

anyone smart will tell you TERA is dead, same people told you same about swtor, you blindly defended it, praised that game, and now. are you still one of those syaing 1.7mln subs are real numbers? when it was proven in 20 different way those numbers werent real/current, and 99999 daily screenshots we get how empty swtor servers are

It is a ranking based on numbers. Stop being pedantic.

and... RC? It actually probably does, in a huge market with huge numbers you can do very well off 3rd, but I am not an expert on the US cola market.

Luckily for me that market and the performance of Royal Crown in it is completely and totally irrelevant to TERA's performance in Korea.

the game launced in korea without 15 of it's zones.

    I've got the straight edge.

Basically, it released in Korea with 50 level cap and two dungeons. That's it.

As of this time right now it has 7 endgame dungeons with two difficulties, it has Guild vs Guild and the political system and some other training ground i'm not really aware of. The level cap is also 58 now and it has two different battlegrounds.

By the end of this month it will have a level 60 level cap, another two more endgame dungeons, daily quests and monster invasions which will require 20 people to defeat. As well as adding in new headgear and shops where you can buy cosmetic items using your points from dailies.

Not to mention Open World PvP will be unrestricted on PvP servers now for those people who enjoy that.

So to sum it up briefly they've added 9 dungeons, GvG battles, 20 man monster invasions and 10+ new zones to explore. Basically nothing.

They have basically added nothing the whole year, you're right.

Edit: I didn't really read the part about us consuming content until I posted this, anyways, how often does WoW release content? Certainly not at the speed TERA is, and they charge you for it, yet 10million people still play that game and just do the same thing every day at endgame. So, we may consume content fast, but clearly we still stick around.

Can you post any proof of that? Not saying that you're lying or anything, I'm just curious. I tried to search for the info myself but I can't find anything recent.

Well, I thought I was a "burnt vet", too old for MMOs and such.

I played both saturday and sunday in sneak peek 8 hours in a row. I didn´t do this since a long time. It´d be sad if this game fails, because it is fun to PLAY.

I see only happy people in BETA, okey we're not much, but still. There is a queue of a few thousands on the pvp server.

I had bad feelings while playing the first few levels on my first character. But that changed rather fast.

At some point I truly thought I got robbed again. But right now, I must say the game is solid. It lacks some stuff, but it has some unique stuff as well. The not to serious style of the game is also cool to me.

I also don't find the game THAT linear. Between the quest hubs (towns, camps etc) you regularly find quest givers.

Depends how you define Linear and to what other examples you want to compare.

The world is huge and for example around the capital city it's almost completely empty, would be cool if they do something with that space.

Also another thing I like, there seems to be sub-zones inside the zones. I can only speak for Arcadia, but I'm guessing tit's the same in all zones. Each sub-zone got a slightly different environment setting.

Overall I'm satisfied, and so are the BETA testers.

Just as saying Tera is the 4th most played MMO in Korea is a 100% worthless fact (if it is a fact) in determining how well its doing.  The #3 cellphone service provider in the US is doing quite well.  The #3 ketchup provider is not.
