I been on the forum for a while now. Seen many post and threads from Vets, that seem to be grieving the death of the MMO genre in their eyes.
But I am curious, are any of you grieving, tired MMO vets, hyped up for Guild Wars 2?
If so, what areas of GW2 are you hyped about most?
You believe GW2 will become your new main MMO?
share with us your thoughts and feelings about the upcoming GW2 which seem to be drawing in lots of attention. Maybe this will be the MMO which finally pleases you. What you believe?
well, as a MMO players for the past 7 years, i have never been hyped about anything like GW2
the most thing i am hypeda bout is the WvWvW and dynamic events, i can even already imagine me spending 70% of my time doing WvWvW, it is what i think it will be my main time in GW2 that i will spent
yes, it will be my main MMO, i never play 2 MMO at a time, that is just me
Yes. Almost all of the newer MMOs I've played bored me after a short time because they were so similar to WoW but didn't have that OOMPH in production quality and general smoothness of play that I felt WoW had, but GW2 looks to rectify that and all of the other little problems that made WoW less than stellar. I haven't been this excited about an MMO, or even a video game, in over a decade.
1. For people who play MMOS for one month or two (game hoppers), B2P is not much different than box price + P2P. No box price + P2P (no cash shop?) would be better for them.
2. Todays Shooters add roles for a reason: many people can concentrate on their given roles easier than being a Jack-of-all-trades. Even if there is no Trinity, often someone has to do the role of a supporter and this is best told before a battle.
3. Dynamic Events: I like Public Quests, it is the evolution in MMOs. Although in my opinion WAR did them too often. So the DEs have to be really really entertaining.
4. Server Transfers: In my opinion Arenanet should demand RL-money for this. I welcome if it is free in more PvE related games like Rift, but if you want to talk about "Server-Pride"...
As an MMO vet from the UO/EQ era I don't do hype. Hype is just foolish - I cannot think of any game that really lived up to its pre-launch hype.
I prefer to try something out with relatively low expectations and then be pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, the last game which pleasantly surprised me was Lotro...
I honestly think this game is what we have been waiting for... if its not I guess i'll... DAMMIT I DONT KNOW! lol Tera is crap, SWTOR is crap, eff WoW and its Pandas on the horizon... GW1 is only fun because I want GW2. If GW2 isnt what I expect I guess it will keep me busy for a lil while and then diablo 3 will keep me busy for a lil while and eventually ill find something else. Being an optimist I just really want to think GW2 is the holy grail we have been searching for though =D

in the beginning WoW did. In fact I think it did better than its hype.
Hyped i dunno, eager to play GW2 ? oh yes iam eager to get my hands on it.
I havent played a solid mmo after 2004 that sucked me into the world and dint let me go for a few years.
GW2 seem to have all these things i like alot in mmo's.
Lets start with PvP:
GW1 had awesome pvp, GW2 seems to have even better PvP.
WvWvW is something iam realy excited about to, Server pride, doing all these diffrent objectives, grouping up and make a gank squad, or make a small group and do some small scale pvp.
Battleground PvP is something i need to do before i can give a comment.
On youtube it all seems awesome to do, but history teached me i can get bored of that real quick if the pvp aint good enough.
So i want to test it before i want to give comments on that.
Dynamic Events is also something i am realy realy eager about, ive seen some events that just looked at end game bosses and provided alot of interesting gameplay.
Dungeons seem to be alot harder ? so i want to try that out to.
What defines an "MMO Vet" anyway? I started with mmo's with wow (EU vanilla launch) if you exclude my free ride on runescape before..
And I am looking forward to GW2 because a large portion of the things I complained about and thought was weird/dumb in WoW (and some of it's clones) have been remedied in GW2.
Never need to fight over a mob(or collectables or whatever) again while "questing" and wait for it's respawn ( i remember standing in 20+ minutes queues to kill mobs in wow vanilla release)
Mr gnoll super leader doesn't just stand around walking in a 2 square meter box waiting to be killed and respawns 30 seconds later when you do so.
No 2 month ardous gear grind to be able experience pvp without getting 1 shot.
and many more.
Which begs the question, whats the shelf life of this game going to be like?
Other than that I'm kinda looking farward to it. Hopefully it delivers what they said they would. But I'm finding the hype a little much though, some of the things people are comming out with make me cringe.
i started with WoW and EVE in 2005. not sure if i qualify, but i sure as hell am sick and tired of the genre. i enjoyed WoW up to TBC, and have recently been enjoying EVE, which is too time-consuming so ive quit for good. other than that, MMO genre is by far the worst.
that being said im hella pumped for GW2. it's like Skyrim, but better, and with multiplayer. and pvp. i just wanna be able to do multiple thing in one game and with one character into which i invest time. once GW2 comes out, gone will be the days of multiple games/platforms to enjoy different things.
I enjoyed this thread when it was lokated in the pup, because i found it interesting to see the reaction there. Here in the GW2 forum it just feel like its misplaced based on where all the first pages feedback was given , and who read and answered.
Here in the GW2 forum the thread could have asked , Hey are any of you hyped GW2 fans also tired MMO vets instead to fit !
Just saying that moving threads can mean the thread doesn't really say the same anymore
I have said for some time now that GW2 is taking some big chances by changing things up as much as they are. But you don't win big if you don't bet big. So I am glad to see that they are being creative, thinking outside the box, not taking the easy road and taking the chance that may well change how mmo are made for a while.
And while they may fail terribly, everytime I read more about what they are doing I become more convinced that they will at least do fine. they are being smart and asking the right questions. They challenging old dogmas but not just changing everything for the sake of change.
I am excited to see what might happen with GW2. And even if they fail, which is not looking to be the case, at least they had the stones to try.

I don't consider myself a vet because according to me vets are only in army. However, i am excited yes but hyped and worshipping GW2? nope.

Yes!
My theme song.
Yes I am.
Hyped being excited that is.
There's not much to add after 16 pages.
Going through the thread you can clearly see a lot of old sign ups who mostly never post turning up in this thread.
That alone says enough.
Yes indeed, here is to hoping Arenanet has made something special.

Happy to oblige.

I'm moderately hyped. Signed for beta. I just hope it's as enjoyable as classic WoW was. Not hoping for anything epic like classic EQ.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)
