So Guild Wars 2 had their closed weekend beta and now everyone is shakin in their little boots. My issue is that it seems like every MMO has the same story
"Its gunna be the best mmo ever, dynamic pvp, breaking the trinity system, super mega crafting that puts minecraft to shame"
As someone who beta tested this as well I need to recommend that Mr. Murphy take off his rose colored glasses, remove his nose from ArenaNets ass, and write up a proper assessment of this game because it is NOT the most perfect MMO in the history of MMOs, which is what he is making it out to be.
While the beta was nice and overall enjoyable, I'll give you a different view of things from someone who isn't so overly biased. I went into the beta so overly hyped to play it wasn't funny. I've been following GW2 development for years now and have planned on buying it day-one for as long as I can remember. That being said...
The dynamic system isn't as awesome as it's made out to be. Most of the time those quests end up being to escort an NPC along the same path every time you do it, to defend a town from X waves of a mob, or to take down a large enemy before they take over the town. They're sort of cool but they got old fast. With the lack of NPC quest givers I found myself running into towns and having nothing to do because no dynamic events were going on nearby. Yes, you can run around and explore, but it's not like dynamic events are always happening in an area you go to so expect to sometimes just have to keep moving on to find things to do.
As someone who didn't play GW1 for very long I had hoped that they wouldn't follow in the "less-than-10-skills" mindset of GW1. Personally I don't care for this yet GW2 does it too. One of the skills is an auto-attack, even. Most of the time I found my character just auto-attacking because the other skills were on cooldown. Having to dodge attacks was fun though but it led to a lot of circle strafing fights which were not fun.
These are just my thoughts on it but I wanted to offer a counter opinion to all of this ass kissing. It's not a terrible game but I don't want everyone to run out and think that it's somehow absolutely perfect in every single sense. I talked to guildmates who also got in the beta and they too had the same experiences that I did.

So you were dissapointed of the game because YOU were stupid and ignorant enough to over-hype yourself ?
You, yourself made an opinion of the game EVEN before trying it ? You thought the game was going to be like focus on dynamic events and such when in fact you knew nothing about the game ?
So what you're saying is : I didn't knew anything about the game and thought it would be the best game ever and be perfect. Then I played it and it wasn't perfect OMG you guys are ass kissers and this game isn't that awsome.
Well your review is pretty much still biased, because you were overhyped for no good reason. And you were completely dilusional. And now, you're reviewing it calling people that actually like the game ass licker. You're so immature and stupid. Can't believe this.

My over hype was no different than the hype Mr. Murphy here has. If you weren't so blind in your own fanboy fanaticism you might see that as well. All in all I had a decent time in GW, but since the "review" of it in question here had almost entirely nothing but ass kissing to do I wanted to offer a counter opinion.
I probably knew more about GW2 going into it than you do. I've read every blog post, followed every concept artist, read everything that I can find on the game prior to playing it. I knew how the systems were described, I knew that there would only be 10 or so skills per character, etc. So no, I did not go into it not knowing anything. Nor did I think it would be the best game ever, but I had high hopes for it just the same as Mr. Murphy did. Nice try though at discredting me.
My review was not overbiased. I was excited for the game but I went into it with an open mind. I was excited, yes, but I approached it objectively nonethless (regardless of what you wish to believe about me, given how well you must know me).
I never called anyone an "ass licker", nor am I immature and stupid, though I find how angry you are to be quite hilarious. I love how you "can't believe this", lol. Your post made my day a lot better, thanks for that!
I take it you're either from the press or from a forum/site dedicated to GW2.
You were rude and very unprofessional towards the staff on MMORPG.com in your post, that's preety much just a fact.
With that said let's review what you wrote.
-You were overhyped.
- You didn't want to explore to find new events.
- You wanted more then 10 abilities available at all times.
Then you write that you've been following the game for years and have perfect knowledge of whatever information was available before the beta.
Now, i'm not an expert on GW2, i hardly know any abilities from any class and i don't particularly follow most intricacies of the game...yet, i know that you have to travel to find events and you're responsible for looking for them, i know why the game has 10 abilities and i'm only mildly hyped about the game.
How can you be over-hyped if you knew what the game was about and didn't like it prior to the beta?
Did you go in expecting that everything you read would magically change to be better for you?
It's like you read everything about EVE and then while playing you complain about it not having full action combat, i just don't get it.
This game honestly looks too good to be true. It can't really be that good, can it?
I would said the same thing before this weekend. While we only had the first 20 levels and one level 30 dungeon to explore, we also had WvW, competitive PVP, and more. In all, the more I played it, the more my jaw dropped. There's a LOT to love here, and the Dynamic Events system pretty much revolutionizes tradtional hub-based questing by well... doing away with it. That could have been the game's only innovation and I'd have been happy. But there's something new around every corner that makes you go: "Duh! Why didn't other games do this!?"
EDIT: Our access is also over for now, and it makes me very very sad.
The game does indeed sound good and I am looking forward to it ..
But I'm sure as you'll remember in beta with AoC we only had the first 20 levels and it all looked good.. besides the many many bugs.. it wasn't until after 20 that the gae just seemed to stop.
I very very much doubt that is the case here but as great a review as this way I think I'll wait for the game in my hands (assuming there's not some steam thing like GW1) before I make any judgements..
It really does look good though and as a ranged player enviomental flaming arrows looks awesome.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I get what you are trying to say about all of the hype surrounding the game before it's release. I'm sure just like most games if you repeat what you are doing enough times it would get a bit boring, but repetition is in every MMORPG out there. I was just wondering if this is a better approach to it, being more action orientated instead of killing some mobs that are sitting there waiting for their death. Sure, it's still a "grind" but is it masked in a way for it to be more entertaining? Of course I haven't played the game and I have followed it for about as long as you have so I can't speak first hand but I hope that they small spins on the "traditions" that MMO's have had over tha past few years are enough to make the game fun to play. I had high hopes for SWTOR also (not as much as GW2), but aside from the character's main story, it fell flat for me.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Not literal^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Then comes the first day and the locusts are released...
"Im bored, wheres the next patch?"
"Game population is pathetic! merge servers!"
Sadly the MMO industry is a poison onto itself cause of its customers rabid unquenchable hunger. So personally...
GW2 is just a other MMO....whoopee.
Im glad to hear of innovations in the game but ultimately it doesn't move anything forward.
Thats my 2 cents.
As Always IMHO
In my humble opinion.
M.
probabilities that they would pick me for the beta.. 1 over 1 million , they will not pick me
what if they are already inviting close friends, friends of friends etc, probabilitie even worst ill just wait for the release.
my hype = 0
