If I get 3 months out of an MMO I consider that a good investment. 3 Months of entertainment 20+ hours a week for $50 game +$50 sub? If I were to do anything else for 3 months other than sit on my hands it would cost more than $100 probably just in gas for travelling.
I've been looking forward to Tera for a while now, but after getting burned by SWTOR, (I got three weeks, post launch from the game), I'm really looking hard at the TERA beta to decide if I will keep my pre-order, or not.
The problem is that I just wasn't motivated enough by game play this weekend to play the beta for more than maybe 6 hours total, only about 2 hours on Sunday, even though I had time and intended on playing more.
I'm going to keep playing the beta events and trying classes, hoping to find something that really grabs me, but so far, no dice. based on the very low server population numbers when ever I played this last weekend, I'm guessing I'm not alone.
What time were you playing o.o? During the last CBT 2 weeks ago there were so many people on friday that many had to wait like few hrs in Que to even log in. Even this week because there was 4 server it was more spread out stil tons of people around. Just most of them ended grouping up in to large groups for guild war if you were on PvP server.

Most of my play time was Friday afternoon and evening, never had a queue and never had any servers show anything greater than medium population. Pretty dead in game as well. U.S. here, do they have seperate EU servers?

Yes. Every other weekend close betas alternate between EU and US. So the weekend that passed had CB in the US, the one that is comming has CB in the EU.
The PvP server had insane queue throught the first CB weekend in the EU and plenty of lag and lag spikes on the evening I played. I ended up playing on a PvE server, for a more enjoyable experience. EU first CB weekend had just one PvP server though.
I mean all gaming is a waste of time if you have priorities like that. For me time playing when not having fun is a waste but if I don´t have fun I quit and if I do that after 3 months or 3 years doesn´t really matter in a P2P game.
^-- this.
I used to spend alot of time playing games. I find that I didn't find WoW enjoyable when I was constantly playing it all day long. It's depressing. And I don't know how you guys can sit there 10 hours strait glued to the screen. No wonder why so many people hate mmos on this site so much. You guys need to get up off your computer chair and get out of your caves. lol
All gaming is a waste of time. and if you have a life. It shouldnt matter if its a time waster. As long as your having fun.
I just dropped about $500 last saturday on hookers and blow...that's one night, appx 12 hours.
I'd say $105 for 3 months of random entertainment is a pretty good value.
You should be proud of yourself bud. If you need to pay for it you must be hurtin pretty badly if you can't get a real woman. I'm sure your family would be very proud of you. *pets you on the head*

i hate moving games, i hate starting over, which is why i almost never make alts. Which is why i never get when people complain about lack of starting area, to me i'm going through it once and probably not going through it again for other 6 month. Idk, i mean end game content of any game is better (to me) than starter area. I mean after playing a well geared character and all that you work hard on having to start over sucks which is why i never do unless i have to for some reason or its good 6 month after i started and taking a break. There people out there that loves making millions of alts, i'll never understand them but i think these are the people that just like the neww feeling to something and onces that gone they move on. Same reason i stop playing minecraft with my friend was they constantly made new worlds which pissed me off coz i work so hard mining and building shit and boom they decide to restart and all my work goes to waste. I think they love the start of the game, i hate the start when you have nothing but hey different tastes.
While I did give in and get ToR (which I'm still enjoying for the time being), I don't think I will be getting TERA. I think I'm going to wait for TSW and then GW2 for my next games. Then, I may end up playing just one or two of them. I'm thinking it's probably going to boil down to TSW and GW2 for me. ToR will be over for me once I get an Imp and Pub to 50. I have no intentions of staying around for endgame. I was in it for the story, so.....move along I shall.
TERA just has no appeal to me. I've kept up reading and watching videos about it, but it clearly has a flavor that I'm not attracted toward. I don't know why, but yeah....it just leaves me kind of.....blank.
People are having the same "HoneyMoon" event all over again with TERA since they're only being given small "tastes" of the game with the CB events.
From an exhausted experience with MMO's I can tell you straight faced that TERA brings nothing new to the table EXCEPT for their combat system, and even THAT gets boring & repetitive after level 20.
Thank you for reading,
-Faded
I fail to see where you know that Tera is this, did you play the Beta at all?
and why make this post why should we listen to someone that's only point is that everyone MMO is like WoW.
when I know for a fact that Tera's only point that is anything like WoW are how the quests are done.
Tera has a completely different Combat system from all MMO's, Different Story from all MMO's, Crafting is Different from All MMO's, the Echantment system is Diffrent from every MMO, and no MMO has BAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been staying out of the Tera arguements but.......I played over the weekend on a PvE server to get a feel for the game. I leveled a zerker to 19, a Lancer to 12 and finally a warrior to 10, at first I was very very skeptical of this game due to the horrid chat on the nub island and honestly the Elin (which I felt were a Pedo's dream). That all said I perservered through the starter zone for the first time on my zerker and the game slowly grew on me, the graphics were top notch to be honest once I tweaked them a bit.
On to the gameplay, ok questing, what is really really getting to me is the people coming on here and bashing questing in this game. The questing here is no different then questing in another Themepark MMO, in fact once you leave the starting area it actually opens up very nicely into mulitiple quest hubs and finally BAMs. No one has said this is a sandbox game nor the next gen, the devs included, but the questing is not bad. In fact it is better then the questing in Aion, Rift, WoW and yes SWTOR, why because I am not forced to follow any specific order nor do I need to only quest to level except for the nub Island.
The combat was awesome and gets better each level, I have not had so much fun fighting mobs in a long time. It is fluid and dynamic and chaining moves is a total blast, is this game for everyone obviously not but those of us that do like are entitled to enjoy and not get belittled by these so called MMO gurus who speak in light blue.

You guys need to stop with the Elins and the pedo stuff. Seriously it is getting old. Do some research behind the lore of the Elin and stop being ignorant about them.

Seriously its getting pretty old -.- should i say everyone who play undead in WoW has a zombie fetish? Or any animal like character furrys? etc...the list goes on. Seriously its an fucking artistic taste difference get over it, there many female that love Elin because they are cute. Why do guy have to be so paranoid about this shit god.(for all guys who think this is for pedos i darn you go to up go a female that like Elin and say it to her face and see how that works out for you -.-) And also if anyone read up on the lore they are fcking hundreds of years old. Forever young representing their pureness in reflect of the god that created them.

Agreed, people grade this game based on it's questing, it's a themepark, it didn't claim to bring dynamic questing, what are you grading? It's doing what it set out to do very well and I enjoy it.
As for your point on the combat, it just gets better and better as I level, the more moves you get the better, then you set up chains and as soon as you hit 20+ the glyphs really allow you to custimize yourself well and determine what moves youll be using in what situations.
I started getting items with speed boosts at level 27, yet to see any noticeable difference but I'm sure I will once I get higher level.

What is getting old are people defending the Elin pretending that they don't look extremely young. Questionably legal in our world, in a game where every female character is eiher wearing a metal thong, leather thong or maybe nothing at all. Your average person will log into TERA and scroll through the races.....
Human female - "Why can't my wife look like that?"
Castanic female - "Wow they clearly aren't scared to show some skin"
Popori - "They have hamsters too?!?!"
Elin - "......WTF?""
At least this was my intial reaction and pretty much anyone else I showed the character creation to. Now if this was some cute anime game where everything is brightly coloured and PG13 then Elin really wouldn't be such a big deal but that just isn't the case. Not everyone playing an Elin will do it because they like the sight of what can be taken as a little girl dressed by a terrible mother but the topic it brings up is a very serious one and isn't something anyone should take lightly.
They aren't going to take Elin out of the game but TERA's overuse of sexuality, imo, has always been one of the major factors holding it back it from mainstream success.

Disagree completely, asian art has nothing to do with success, but content and fun. Sure there is a minority of players and haters (majority of them are other games fanboys envy when another game is near to release) that will never play an asian mmorpg but these games are always played by asian and anime fans for majority, anime fandom is indeed a consistent part of the entire mmorpg playerbase, a big factor and a decent revenue.
If this game will fail in the long run the cause will be the lack of end-game content and stagnant progession that don't match with a p2p model, infact i think this game is not suited for a p2p model at all, but more a b2p model + cosmetic item shop. Imo.

It is a high fantasy game. Who cares if the Elin look young that is just how they animate in Korea. Don't like the race don't play it. Also I am not scrolling through the toons and comparing it to real life because I know it is just a game. Unlike others I do not find pixels in a game a turn on....

Did you even read my whole post or did you stop at the Pedo part and become unglued???? I gave the game a pretty good write up along with my intial impressions, what I am not allowed to have them???? Those are intial impressions, did I quit at that point no, did I keep playing yes, and after a while the Elin just flowed along with every other toon. Quit being so defensive about the Elin

I read the whole post, but its gotten to the point where whether in a good or bad way people do not even want to hear the Elin mentioned after all the garbage that has gone on.

Good writeup nonetheless.
I agree and maybe I should have put a line in saying that after a bit the Elin just flowed with the game like every other toon, it is just a shock to some of us at first. I am looking forward to playing this game at release, hell I can't wait for the next beta weekend!
Doesn't Tera have a great guild system and political system built into it? Isn't there territorial control even? Open world PvP? These things alone will give this game a great foothold in keeping playing longer. Add to that the robust combat system that seems to be a little more action oriented meshed with player skill and it might be a game that draws a large portion of the PvP crowd.
I wouldn't be so quick to throw this game under the bus.

It's not as interesting as it sounds on paper. There is a reason that no one in Korea talks about the political system or the territorial control much. Also with pointless world PvP and animation locks with combat animations can turn off PvPers just as much as the rest draws them in.
