There are still 3 types of "jobs" to do while in dungeons and PvE'ing.  There's Control, Damage, and Support.  Also group dynamics can work like an Elementalist and Ranger, the ranger can shoot through firey walls and improve damage.  Can't wait to see more combo's like this when the game is released.  But yeah, that's the kinda way group's work.

Healers aren't gone. It's just that you can finally do stuff without them. You can still be a healer primarily and then people wont have to worry about healing themselves. So basically instead of just being a healer class, you can be anything and then be a healer/provide support. So it likely wont just be people self healing all the time, there will be regular healers all over the place. In any MMO I play, i always use characters tht have self heals and they aren't always enough, so healers are still very useful and needed in some cases.

Self heals aren't new and have never made healers useless

Which classes do you know for sure can work efficiently as "regular healer" in GW2?

Water Elementalist.  Of course that same person can also perform as dps in fire spec or take some hits for the team in earth form.  This is the point.  Everyone has the capacity to fulfill more than just ONE role for varying amounts of time and to fill in where need be.  That's not the same thing as being a "dedicated healer" or tank or whatever.  It has more utility than those pidgeonholed "jobs."

There is still a trinity, it just isnt the same names. sure they have different functions but not all that much changed classwise.

Necro's will be pretty good at taking some hits as well as healing suppport roles. But it will never be able to be a healer or a tank.

Without having played it and been a part of the group dynamics, it's really hard to form an opinion.  Since most are wedded to the trinity, it will be difficult to see the potential in anything but the trinity.  I would reserve judgement until some people who have played it, begin reporting back.  Until then, its just so much pissing in the wind.

I had good fights and bad fights with the holy trinity, I don't know why you guys hate it so much, from what I learned, the fun factor is not based on the character role but it all depends on how the boss mechanics are implemented, they can make a boring "tank and spank" boss, or a boss with many mechanics and interacting with the players that becomes a very fun and challenging fight.

but you have to understand, the trinity is a 100% fully contrived and artificial mechanic. Without aggro mechanics it doesn't exist. It's actually a devs way of dumbing down the AI by putting less pressure on the group by letting the group script the combat to a certain extent.

Real combat is chaotic, so the only worry I have about the game is, will the population become smart enough to figure it out before they get frustrated by it. Most of the damage in game is avoidable by dodge and proper builds, but my faith in the player base is lacking. After all, we still can't seem to get people in trinity systems to freaking move out of the bad stuff.

It isn't so much that I hate the Trinity.

1.) I'm tired of the lack of variety it provides.  Whether I like it or hate it, the fact remains: it's far from fresh.  You can only play a remake so many times before wondering what other ways the genre could be done and still retain that fun factor.

2.) The power that healers and tanks hold over a group is ridiculous.  I've seen people be booted from a group for criticizing a bad move on the tank's part, who was only able to initiate a kick from the party because the dps would rather boot the guy who had a point than wait on a certain class for 20 mintues or more (usually more).  It's unfair and it's archaic.

That's not to say that in good groups, I didn't have a great time, but I'm leary of even playing a Trinity-centric game for the reasons stated.  IMO, power should be distributed evenly, not rigged beforehand with an old system.

The only time I truly felt the Trinity came alive was in a 10 man raid situation, and even then, it took forever to get the right classes in order to run the damn thing.  I dunno, maybe I'm just sick of listening to people yell at each other and waiting to have fun instead of having it.
