What the hell is up with all the games slated to release this year more and more keep announcing intent for 2012. We have had 3 pretty dry years, and all of a sudden 6 AAA mmos, and 12 AAA console RPGs all hitting at the same damn time.
Have these guys been so busy in the studio they havent been following current events about the economy, or are they trying to push out all thier games before the world comes to and end?
The really annoying part is after all these games release this year it will be 3 -5 years of nothing new to play... GAH!

Well then let's just hope those 6 AAA MMOs will keep us entertained for the next 3-5 years, shall we?
I am confused..are you happy or sad? because 2012 is the most exciting year for online gaming.
I wouldn't say there was completely nothing after this year: I expect some MMO's that are announced for 2012 to delay into 2013. Plus there's some other MMO's to be expected in the next few years as well, like World of Darkness, Jeff Strains' and Undead Labs' zombie MMO, Trion's Defiance, EQ Next, Blizzard's Titan, Copernicus, Blade & Soul and then there's some sandbox projects that might rear their heads.
Rofl well the first one kept me entertained less than one month.. but technically that was a 2011 release I guess : P
Oh you counted SWTOR into those six games. Oh my...
Never bought that game and never will. Bad WoW clone is bad. Here's my list:
TERA
The Secret World
PlanetSide 2
Guild Wars 2
FireFall
Wildstar (probably not 2012)
Archeage (probably not 2012)
Well, as I have mentioned before, I cant see a successor to Vanguard even at the most distant horizont. Thanks to the fact that it was a failure, not because of the quality of the game but because of the much too early release, nobody now really takes it as a role model for future games.
The "AAA" titles mentioned here all simply underwhelm me. I had some hopes for SWTOR but sadly even the story part of that game seems to have been more or less a failure. Archeage shows some promise, maybe I'll check it out.
The reason is clear.
Game Developers are the illuminati, and completely know that this year, is the end, and why. They will release them now, so they can make their money to fund their new world order!
5 if you ask me.
the only MMO release in the last 5 years that deserves more than a second though is Rift, and actually not because of the game itself, more like due to the commitment and savoir faire of the new kids on the block, Trion.
on the bright side of things, the last 5 years have been pretty darn good in the singleplayer PC/console gaming departments, tho.
You develop to where you expect the market to go. Not what will happen to the economy.
If I spent 3-6 years creating a game for people to enjoy, I'd want them to be able to at least try it out before the world ends.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
At least as far as the MMO's are concerned, what does the economy matter? However they are released, within 6-12 months most or all of them will be F2P anyway.

"Oh my" to your list also my friend.
Remove The Secret World and Wildstar since they are too can be nominated as WoW clones.
TERA is a shallow Quest Driven game advertised as a PvP game but no castle seiging (just a political system). The combat system is fun in the beginning soon it becomes tedious. MMORPGs are made to be repetetive you really don't want to aim for a long time grinding PvE... it's not fun after you do it the 3039039093th time.
PlanetSide 2 is unique and feels like it belongs to another genre.
So, you're left with FireFall, Archeage and Guild Wars 2... and I'm not very enthusiast about them either.
Rift is by far the most game in my 25+ years of gaming experience where I get a strong urge of DEJA VU. Rift gave me so many vertigos because I thought I was back in 2004 playing WoW.... everytime I snooze (because of how boring the game was) I just lose sense of time and I get anxious because am not sure which year I was in since the game is SO FREAKING similar to WoW. Even the BAGS, Pet Action Interface and Itemization coloring AND FONT!!
Rift is HILARIOUS.
please enlighten me as to these 'AAA' MMOs you speak of...
As far as I'm concerned, there's only one 'AAA' MMO...GW2, also known as The Chosen One or The Messiah. GW2 makes baby Jesus happy.
Hehe, what would be the point of making money just before the world ends?
Second, the idea that all have is that you will be playing at least one of these games for 3-5 years down the line. We are talking about MMORPG's here not solo games, you are "supposed" to embrace on for the long terms and not change MMO's every month.
At least, that is the essence of an MMO, I find it very funny when people expect to play an MMO for a couple of months. And then move to the next. Now, that being said, I am guilty of this but not for the same reason, I expect to find the one to play in the long terms but the industry keeps making MMO's that are only playable for a month and then you get bored. But that is another issue for another topic.
Order of the Silver Star, OSS
ESKA, Playing MMORPG's since Ultima Online 1997 - Order of the Silver Serpent, Atlantic Shard
Hehe, this gets said EVERY year. 2011 was the most exciting year ever for MMOs, so was 2010, 2009 etc etc
Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom
What exactly, are you complaining about?
The release of a bunch of games in the near future?
Of all things to complain about.. you choose this.
You think TSW is a wow clone? Did they really remove classes and go with sandbox characters when they added pandas into wow?
The last MMO that made me really happy was Dark Age of Camelot. Before that, Ultima Online.
That's not me saying that I haven't spent some time in other games, I just haven't felt really good about any since DAoC.
It could also be that after an abysmal 2008, devs went back to the drawing boards and changed plans, thus extending their development time.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
"Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Yeah that caught my attention too.
I have absolutely zero interest in TSW personally, maybe it'll surprise me, but the setting just doesn't interest me whatsoever. With that in mind, even I can easily admit that it's probably follows the WoW template the least of any AAA MMO we've seen in a long time. Where exactly is the resemblance to WoW?
He's obviously either very misinformed or completely uininformed about The Secret World, which has to make you wonder what leads these people to decide they're an authority on these things. Who exactly do they think they're fooling, and why?
People are desperate to call things WoW clones now. its almost as if they feel that any game that makes you hit 1-7/0 is a wow clone. sorry to burst your bubble, TSW is the most innovative game to be release in this genre in years. you dont get the innovative title by copying other games.
Because i can.
I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out.
Logic every gamers worst enemy.
You got that wrong: GW2 is merely a common human being, while SWTOR is the Anti-Christ and Rift is one of his minions.
Wait, you really think the failure of Vanguard had nothing to do with the quality of the game?
Vanguard failed due to the piss poor job done by Sigil Games, end of story.
More time would not have changed that.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.
It´s illusion.
which one would you buy ?
a) banana
b) RP banana AAA
