As far as I'm concerned, there's only one 'AAA' MMO...GW2, also known as The Chosen One or The Messiah.  GW2 makes baby Jesus happy.

this is why i say GW2 supporters are crazy. they refuse to admit any other game other than their game could ever possibly be good, new or innovative.

im curious what will happen if the hype doesnt meet the game.

    Because i can.

Where is your proof that even 10% of the GW2 supporters are that way?

The fanboys will say its a huge success anyway, and since there will be no sub numbers and i doubt server numbers will be released no one will be able to prove it either way.

All GW2 supporters arent like this, but there are a lot of rabid fanboys on this site

You are overestimating the power of fanatism, or perhaps I am underestimating it.

If World vs World vs World becomes a laggy mess for too many people who actually met the minimum system requirements, I don't think anyone will defend it and GW2 will be considered a gigantic failure.

Likewise if the average player runs out of PvE content within 1 month => massive failure that most fans won't deny.

If hacking and exploiting runs rampant and GW2 doesn't act quickly enough to fix and punish => massive failure that most fans won't deny.

I've seen that as well and to an extent practiced it myself, but that doesn't automatically mean that people can't see the merits of other games.

id say it would be about 50/50 deny and not deny, look at SWTOR. people are still defending the game.

im not trying to be offensive here, but the hype levels, the footage, everything is almost identical to how SWTOR promoted their game. not saying it will end up the same but for the amount of hype being produced they need this game to take the fantasy genre at this point.

I hope that GW2 fans won't behave that badly if the situation arises. :&

Rofl well the first one kept me entertained less than one month.. but technically that was a 2011 release I guess : P

Oh you counted SWTOR into those six games. Oh my...

Never bought that game and never will. Bad WoW clone is bad. Here's my list:

    TERA

    The Secret World

    PlanetSide 2

    Guild Wars 2

    FireFall

    Wildstar (probably not 2012)

    Archeage (probably not 2012)

ignorant ppl that say WoW clone....... what did WoW clone? huh? can you answer that?

i agree, thats why im loving how TSW is doing it. they arn't trying to get WoW's numbers. they realise that the hardcore gamer is more loyal than the casual and they are pushing in a specific demographic. compared to the other games being released TSW is going to be more Intellectual than GW2, however GW2 will be more reflex than TSW.

Yes, the hype is enormous. However, the hype was delivered in a significantely different manner than the SWTOR one: it focused far more on actually showing working systems rather than just telling how things will work. However, no matter what difference, a failure would still be a failure. Performance and longetivity are two very important aspects of any MMORPG that we won't really know until the game is actually tested for about 1 month.  No idea if Arenanet will succeed in those aspects.

One major risk factor with TSW is that it is made by Funcom.  Maybe they learnt from their Age of Conan mistakes, maybe they didn't. We know for sure that Mythic did not  learn their lesson from the WAR failure and instead injected a similar disease into SWTOR PvP.

I want to see a list of the games the OP is talking about.  I only know of 3 AAA MMORPGs and 3 SRPGs.  So which games are we talking about here?  Because it's practically March already and I'm still playing the same games I was playing last year.

  • RaysheRayshe Member UncommonPosts: 1,279

i've said it before and ill say it again. 2012 will be a very interesting year for the MMO genre, that being said i really hope the up and comers are successful. im happy TSW doesnt have to compete with them. GW2 has some crazy fanboys.

Have these guys been so busy in the studio they havent been following current events about the economy, or are they trying to push out all thier games before the world comes to and end?

The minimum requirements rule out craptops. So yeah, no issues there. You need at least something that resembles a gaming machine (i.e. running left 4 dead ect.) to meet GW2's projected minimum :p

Expect whiners with aforementioned craptops complaining come release day of course.

There is a huge majority of negative posts about GW2 that are misconceptions or entirely baseless.  The fact about GW2 and Anet is that they are trying to solve the problems inherent with MMORPG's instead of making a new iteration of the same frustrations.  Their fans, seeing what they are trying to do and agreeing with the strategy, will fight to protect this new ideology. Viva la revolucion!  (lol)

The only other MMO that is changing things up (and I mean changing things, not just adding some fluff mechanic) is TSW but I don't know enough about that game yet to comment on how grand these changes will be.

Well, he's a SWTOR fan so I'd say he was probably sarcastic.

OT: Dont think we need to worry to much about having "too many" amazing MMOs coming this year.

Some will miss the year completely, others (maybe most) will probably drop alot in amazement when they come closer to launch, or after launch. In other words: they wont live up to the hype.

Hopefully we'll have at least SOMETHING to play though. image

I would be excited if even one of these new AAA games were not out there to cater to the "care-bear" crowd (I know...I said care-bear).

The "AAA" titles mentioned here all simply underwhelm me. I had some hopes for SWTOR but sadly even the story part of that game seems to have been more or less a failure. Archeage shows some promise, maybe I'll check it out.

Wait, you really think the failure of Vanguard had nothing to do with the quality of the game?

Vanguard failed due to the piss poor job done by Sigil Games, end of story.

More time would not have changed that.

If it would of been more optimized, and more bugs fleshed out, it would of done a hell of a lot, end of story.

Hey, you show developers it's worth spending $100M on hardcore players and that they'll still make their money back, and there will be a slew of non care-bear MMOs before you can say Darkfall Lives.
