This is what I call a misguided person. They blindly state things that are fact to them, without anything to back them up. They think the game is horrible, while having not seen anything about it.
To get more serious, are you for real? Guild Wars 1 had Campaigns and a Expansion. Yeah, they cost money, but guess what? They gave HUGE amounts of content. Probably more content than a full year subbed to a P2P game. And the whole time you're playing the game, you're not paying a cent. If you can't/won't spend some money on a game your playing and enjoying, I think its time to stop being a gamer.
I seriously can't tell if this game is just getting trolled hard or if their really is this many uneducated people about the game spouting off nonsense for whatever reason.
Sherlock this isnt gw 1. Gw 2 isnt a heavy instanced small game. GW2 is actually a real mmorpg. Do you really think they gonna make money with just b2p ,servers cost ton shit of money. Im just preparing u gw 2 fanboys for whats the next step and its gonna be DLC for mmorpgs,
Instancing does not really save money . Do you think that 10 instances with 5 people in each actually would use less bandwidth than 50 players in a regular zone?
It helps reduce lag but the bandwidth costs aren´t really less.
F2P, B2P, WTF, LOL. Have you guys booted up GW1 lately? I can't wait to see the rage quit from the GW2 fans when they finally figure out how Arenanet is going to milk this monster of a game.
They will have you "buy" the tail. Ha! but seriously. You think you're going to get a game of this scope for just the price of the box? Somebody will be paying the money. Look at GW1, right out of the box you can hit up the store and go buy every skill, unlock every equipment upgrade and whatever else. I took a look at the store last night and cringed. I thought "What's the point of even trying this game out again?"
It was pretty creepy. I expect GW2 to be a killer product but I know there's going to be a catch at some point. Wether it's that $9.99 "perk" that makes things so much easier, or endless amounts of "downloadable content" that will get ya for a few bucks here and there.
It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
Your arrogance and ignorance is just astonishing. Have I played Guild Wars 1? Yes, I have and for me it is 10 times more fun than 99.99% of the MMOs on this website and it actually requires skill and it's not mindless grind pressing which requires you to press 2 buttons while watching TV.
But you clearly know nothing about it. Can you please not comment on a game which you have clearly not played? Or did you just boot the demo? I doubt you even did that.
Like I said i'm playing it right now for the first time in many years. Thought I would give it a try to see if there was some story I could get into for the GW2 release evenetually. I'm lvl 7 and getting out into the post searing stuff.
So what about my post just spewed ignorance? I'm pretty sure it was just 16 hours ago I checked into the online store and I could buy like 3 skill unlock packs for $9.99 each or whatever that unlocked every skill in the game for each expansion. And then there was some kind of PvP access kit, and another kit that unlocked every item for PvP if I remember correctly.
I'm just saying that Arenanet is going to pull in some major cash somehow or another. I don't expect to be "forced" into purchasing anything whatsoever, hell I'll even buy some shit if it's a good option, but man did it really kill the mood when I saw their online store last night. Definitely a sign of things to come.
Edit: spelled "definitely" wrong for the 15,000th time in my life.
You know a contradiction when you see one. This is one.
You have to pay, but its free. kk logic truimphs.
I think it will be floating around 1.5 to 2 million boxes. I don't think many outside the core MMORPG crowd knows about GW2 yet, you see it starting to pop up on major media sites now due to the press beta videos. But I think they need to do a better job in advertising, having a great product isn't enough, to buy it you need to know it exist in the first place, GW2 simply isn't as well know as WoW or SWTOR yet. Right now I simply can't see GW2 having the same impact as WoW or SWTOR since they have renown outside the MMORPG genre.
I personally know they have something better than Guild Wars 2 as a name, since the game is more than just a sequel to the first game, but oh well
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

Unlocked skill for PvP doesnt mean you can use freely on yourself in PvE (but yes it helps on heroes a lot) and rest unlock packs are useless for PvE so why does it concern you that much if you are there for PvE story ? You dont get any prestige pve armor or pets from them. Imo only thing that new player could consider to buy are skill unlock packs. And even if you decide to buy few things it's hardly comparable with how much you would pay overall for subscription.
Since when is a b2p game with probably heav dlc content that gonna rip us even more off a f2p game? PLEASE

You do realize that modern servers aren't expensive at all to maintain, yes? That's why ArenaNet is going with and can get away with this model. They're actually telling people the truth about server costs.
i honestly have no problem with the game but when people say things like "you just have to buy the game and then its free" i feel they need a correction. sure everything is one time payments but B2P isnt only having to pay once, its having to buy it and the expansions. the system works, dont get me wrong and they need to be able to release alot of content with those or else people wouldnt buy them. each expansion needs to be a full game worth of content. if its not then your buying DLC, and usualy those expansions are the same price as the original game. Still its a working buisness model and i have nothing against it.
Welll You had to buy expansions with subscription based MMOs as well (EQ, WoW, AO, AoC). People keep forgetting abuout vanity stuff, and while many wll say things along the lines of "ROFL why should I spend 10$ for a new costume set???Get a life!!" look at Blizzard. Pricing their mounts at 25$ didn't stop millions of people from buying them and that's pretty much free money.
In the end, if You deliever product that people appriciate They will spend more money on it to support the studio while also gaining some nice fluff in-game.
yeah i never said people weren't dumb, nor am i attacking it either. im simply bringing up the point that saying you have to pay once is incorrect.
Because i can. I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out. Logic every gamers worst enemy.

Then theres content development. Which is why they will have DLCs.
The game is gonna have a cash shop, so it's actually not far off of a f2p. The only real difference is the cash shop isn't required to play comfortably, oh and you have to buy the box and expansions.
We'll just have to wait and see how greedy they get with the cash shop. If they go the GW1 route players might be able to buy their skills instead of earning them in the game.
Anyone want to predict how many boxes they will sell in their first year I say 3 million. GW1 has sold over 5 million accounts.
When this game comes out it's going to drag a lot of gamers from other MMO's where you pay monthly fees like SWTOR.
These greedy companies don't understand yet that a F2P model is the way too go. Most new MMO's are testing the waters with Paying monthly fees but eventually they take the F2P route.....
GW2 is a B2P game, so if you want to compare sell boxes, you should do it with a B2P game likes ME3 and not swtor a MMO with Subs. People will buy gw2 and keep their subs with ¨swtor¨ or ¨wow¨ like they will do it with ME3 or diablo3 etc.

Edit: And don't get me wrong, I could give two shits about paying good money for a product. I have bought, payed for, tried out hundreds of games over the years. I'll drop $60 on a game and play it for 2 hours and never look at it again, the money I spent on gaming doesn't bother me. But don't get all spoiled brat cranky when a lot of you fan boi's figure out that in a lot of ways there's going to be a subcription attached to this product.
The GW1 skill sets and equipment upgrades are a remnant from the GW PvP editions. Oh, you forgot to mention it was PvP character only. You'll find that was quite an important part. It affected heroes too, with skills, but you still had to figure out builds. Skill packs were my only issue with the gw store, but they always existed before the store in the PvP editions.
It just so happens that heroes (which were added in Nightfall, so were never there from the beginning and as such needed to fit in somewhere) use the account skills as to not be a completely over the top money sink. Hero skills aside (because you could wiki the latest FoTM build and roll out once you've gained the heroes you need), nothing bought in the store affected PvE or made it 'easier'.
And no, you could not use those skills on your PvE character. The only way you could access them in any other way apart from just buying them in the game normally would be to buy a tome off someone (which are relatively expensive for a new player anyway).
That aside: here is a complete comprehensive list of gw1 'dlc' that wasn't cosmetic faff:
GW: prophecies - base game, £30. Worth it.
GW: Factions - added factional PvP, a large campaign, £30, definitely worth it.
GW: Nightfall - much more PvE content, a vast amount in fact, £30, definitely worth it.
GW: EoTN - only real 'expansion', priced at £20 instead of £30 and added a ton of new content, definitely worth it.
Bonus mission pack: set of 5 interesting missions, £6. I didn't buy this, because i didn't really feel it was worth it.
shit guild wars 2 is gonna do good. Its buy 2 play. Even if 5 million people buy it and half of them stop playing it dosent matter..... just matters on box sales.
1M testers isn't a good thing. It just means GW2 is using the same "beta testing" promotion everyone else is doing. All they're doing is giving a free sample of the game to intice people to play it. Imagine if Heinz Ketchup's commercial stated "1.4B testers a year." Does that mean they make good ketchup? Does that mean their ketchup is successful? No, absolutely not.
I would have been more satisfied with Guild Wars 2 if they did not have an open beta at all. Now I know it's just another WoW clone that I''ll quit after a month.

Well it's not 1 million testers. It's just 1 million people that signed up. If Heinz was a brand new product and 1.4 billion people were interested in getting a sample, it just shows that it has potential to be a great product.
Was the beta sign up a success? Yup. We won't know if the game will be a success until it's been out for a little bit.

This makes no sense (we'll not even venture into the whole 'enforced month' thing).
You're claiming that because they're willing to let many thousands of people try the game out before release to see if it's good, you think it'll be a WoW clone?
I'm sorry, but that wins the award of the most stupid thing i've read today, and i read a post from a guy saying the PS vita shouldn't be called a new handheld because it's 'only' got more features and vastly better specs than the PSP. Yeah, your statement was THAT bad
Since when is a b2p game with probably heav dlc content that gonna rip us even more off a f2p game? PLEASE
You know... I wouldn't be too bothered by DLC, unless every one of them was something I really wanted. I would rather pick and choose what content I'd spend my money on than pay $15 a month for updates I may or may not want.
I didn't realize that GW2 would be doing the DLC thing, though.

Instancing does not really save money . Do you think that 10 instances with 5 people in each actually would use less bandwidth than 50 players in a regular zone?
It helps reduce lag but the bandwidth costs aren´t really less.
Think about it...
More zones with less people each really reduce the needed resources, bandwith and processing power.
If you have 10 instances with 5 people each, then every action from every player has to be send to the 4 other players in the same isntance. Lets say it's 1KiB/s per player. Thats 50KiB/s incoming traffic and 50*4=200KiB/s outgoing traffic for the server.
If all 50 player are in the same instance and actually nearby, each action has to be send to the 49 other players. So it's still 50KiB/s incoming traffic, but 50*49=2450KiB/s outgoing traffic.
Needed processing power scales in a similar way. Thats the reason all MMORPGs crash when there are really large battles and just throwing more hardware at it doesn't help.

except they dont. they already have your money. all they have to do is keep selling the original box.
