ArcheAge scary possibilities.

DavirokDavirok Member UncommonPosts: 75

From what ive seen in Korea CBT and some really nice articles, the game is already MIND BLOWING, and to me its SCARY in some points.

Just think about the differences between servers with all these awesome sandbox tools, imagine you manage to create such a large woodcraft corporation you monopolite all the woods and the rest of the server cant do shit about this.

Or just a huge pirate float you manage to control the seven seas of Archeage, and the rest of the server fear you and try to join you desperately :P.

I guess you see my point, maybe in another server there arent such things and people take it easier, the possibilites within this are amazing.

My goal is to make my server a barren waste land, going to make it as much like Mordor as possible.

    Chop chop trees, chop chop.

Make sure you destroy all the tree seeds too, so no new ones can be planted.

And bring salt to spread across the fields, so that the land itself will die.

Don't get too excited just yet guys. Sandboxes don't often work out how you imagine they will. You tend to overblow ideas in your mind's eye, especially when a game promises you freedom. Darkfall, though a great game, did not allow me to do all the things I thought I'd be able to do.

It's not a sandbox game,it's thembox. It has some sandbox features but it's also themepark as well,it's an hybrid. It has instances and quest system, all your typical themepark features.

Other than the PVP and the skill system, the game share a bit in common with vanguard not Darkfall or Mortal Online.

It has a better ship system than vanguard better housing system and better PVP,many other features are great as well but it's not a sandbox MMO.

Crafting looks great as well but Vanguard has a great crafting system but i can see that AA is more appealing imo.

I had heard there was zero instancing in this game. Great, another instanced quest grinder. And I had high hopes. Next.

Staying on the topic of trees... My guild will raid any guild's city and attempt asset destruction if that guild has less than 20 trees or more than 200.

    *insert mad laughter here*

Fanrabbit in my vent currently over various pycho druidic based guild names, good times.

    Wrong.

ArcheAge is a sandbox with themepark elements.

ArcheAge has 0 instancing, open world dungeons, the only instancing that there is right now is in BG's, which are probably going to be removed in the next beta, like they did with the instanced dungeons. (acording to beta testers, nobody uses the BG's and are very unpopular, and im not sure but i think they don't have rewards)

So, again, ArcheAge is a sandbox with optional questing, but you can lvl up in many different ways, this isn't a themepark.

The quests are there for the people who need to follow an arrow, only the autists are going to quest grind in a game where you can build your own town with your guild, hell you can even build a castle.

And let's not forget how EVERYTHING in this game happens in the open world, the PVE and PVP are connected all the time, unlike themeparks like Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World.

There is 1 BG for beginners to learn how to siege, and that is it. Everything else is open world.

Yes AA does have quests, the same way Everquest has quests. You get lots when you start out but as you lvl up they get fewer and fewer, and you have the main story quest line.

So AA is not a true total sandbox game,it has themepark features thrown in with great sandbox features.

Sorry...but what exactly are these themepark features you're on about? Do you mean quests? Because quests have been in almost every MMO, themepark or no. And this game seems to have no instancing, though instancing doesn't make a game a themepark.

No, you said ArcheAge had instanced dungeons.

    That is not true.

Unlike themeparks, ArcheAge doesn't have any kind of instanced progression, if you are in an enemy guild, i can stop you from doing X, because there is 0 instancing, everything happens in the open world.

Please do some research about the game.

The instanced BG can hardly be considered PVP content.

This goes to show how silly the whole sandbox vs themepark discussion is. Someone comes along and decided that a sandbox with quests is for some reason not a sandbox anymore lol.

This whole 'make up your categories' only leads to neverending discussion because there is no consensus about the definition about Sandbox. If people cant agree on the definition then discussing whether MMO x is sandbox or not, is pointless lol.

I think you are overreacting. It's really not the drama situation you make out here.

If a game has predominantly sandbox features it is considered a samdbox game, if it has predominantly themepark, likewise.

If a game is 50/ 50, like XL have stated that AA is intended to be, it is hybrid, or 'sandpark'.

A 'sandbox' can have themepark elements and vice versa, though a true sandbox, a 'pure' one, would give you nothing more then the world and the tools to manipulate that world.

    It really isn't complicated.

I don't even know why the term themepark exists. Call them what they are. WoW clones.

Sandbox makes sense because each sandbox is WILDLY different from the other. Yet each themepark is almost identical. Even their UIs are copies. The same game design, the same linear loot progression, the same instanced dungeons, the same quest based leveling, the same class systems, the same crafting, the same market, it's sickening.

If you mean that laughing out loud at the logically flaws in every sandbox discussion is overreacting, then I guess I was.

And for your definition, my point is that in every single discussion whether a MMO is a sandbox or whatever, the discussion changes into 'what is a sandbox'. Every time it shows that the ppl who participate in such a discussion cant even agree on this definition.

This makes the discussion whether MMO x is a sandbox, clearly one step to far. Because without consensus about the definition it is just pointless and nothing more then 'yes it is' ' no it isnt 'it so is' 'no way!'

/shrug... there are a lot of confused people out there in internet land. That doesen't invalidate every post about sandboxes.

What 'flaws' are there in what I am saying? What, in the definition I am giving, is not correct?

Rather then talking about 'everyone' else and some general idea you have about 'sandbox discussions', what views do you have on what I actually posted?

I hope there are reasonable limits on how much one player or one guild can own and control. Shadowbane suffered from massive guilds zerging the servers. Still one of my favorite games
