Title made me chucle... however I think BW will take this game to the grave before doing a reverse NGE as you call it.
I for one would appreciate some more content, wouldnt mind more complexity but dont think it will ever happend. Atm there is only questing and flashpoints(dont consider pvp a viable option in this game).
They need to reverse NGE the end game or something at least, it's sad that all they could come up with was the same tired and pathetic end game gear grind.
The PvE endgame is so repetitive it hurts, hard modes and nightmare modes should be more than just extra hitpoints and quicker enrage timers on the bosses (and for the record, I think the enrage timer mechanic is AWFUL!) Heck, Rift managed to shake up hard modes a bit by adding extra bosses in the mix.
PvP is mechanical feeling and pretty pointless and the fact that there still is no feature to let you choose which WZ you want to be in is pretty lame...that feature should have been in there since DAY 1!
Maybe do something with the space content which could have been left out, it is essentially a short lived mini game featuring the same repetitive missions for every tier.
I played SWG from the beta up until the NGE which killed it in my view, I can't see myself playing SWTOR straight for 2 years unless there are some major content updates to come within the next 6 months. And better content than Rise of the Rhakghoul's which was cheesy and waaaay too derivative of the L4D franchise; Khaon Under Siege was fairly disappointing.
I bought SWTOR from day 1, enjoyed it a lot in the first couple months, but the luster is starting to wear off. I'll continue to sub to it for now...however, after GW2 and TSW hit I can't say whether I'll still be with SWTOR or not. It's a shame, I like sci-fi settings the best and I am really burnt out on fantasy setting MMO's but I'm all ready getting SWTOR fatigue when I was looking for it to be something I could get into for years.
Simply, Sony/LA thought their product was too complex and so dumbed it down with the NGE. Will EA decide the WoW clonething isn't working and perform a reverse NGE to sandbox things up.
Will SWG fans explode with irony.
lol great post. Honestly, SWTOR could use a reverse NGE. Diversify classes a bit
lol all i gotta say lol a game sells 2 mil copies and still has over 1 mil subs and you think its time to abandon ship. Thats just lol.
The problem with SWTOR it was known since 2008, and in that time attracted loads of people. Even people living on another planet / under a rock all that time, would have gotten to know about it! By the time it got released you had 2 million people interested.
When it came to SWG it got released fast. I heard about it, and then the next time I checked on it, it was already released, and got into the game 1 month late, and missed the Beta. Also they did not ship to the EU until October.
What a load of crap. The development of SWG was first announced in 2000 with the official site being released in November of that year. The game wasn't released until 2003. That was THREE years between the official announcment and release. TOR was first announced in 2008 and released in 2011. That was also THREE years between the announcment and the release.
I know you want to defend SWG's honor, but the truth is their release was no where near the success TOR's is even though they had similiar time to hype the game.

Cmon. You cant compare 200 mil and the hype machine we have today, to the chump change and handful of websites back then. Most people never heard of swg until they saw it at best buy or wal-mart. All the first people were EQ players if that tells you anything. (they were the only ones who knew about it)
The only things that matters is profit though. Still want to compare?
Though I would still presume that EA and BIOWare would always beat SOE in sales.
EDit; not to mention swtor got alot of hype before the announcement, ya know when they were for sale.
lol all i gotta say lol a game sells 2 mil copies and still has over 1 mil subs and you think its time to abandon ship. Thats just lol.
It's the no #126 best selling video game on Amazon.com so they re not exactly getting massive numbers of box sales anymore.
To me SWTOR is running the same path as Age of Conan. If you remember, AoC sold over a million copies and had almost the same number of subcriptions. Sadly, bugs in that game drove a third of the player base to concel and the other half due to lack of endgame content.
I don't think AoC had close to 1 million subscribers. Box sales yeah, but not people that stayed after the free month.

I never knew of SWG until early 2003, and I am all over Star Wars games. If it was hyped as much as SWTOR there would be no way I would have missed the beta for SWG, which I did, so it did not get hyped well.
awww cute, another one still can't get to grips with the reality that one want to live in their shitty sandbox worlds but instead prefer to actually play a game
fuck sandbox mmo, the sooner they die off compleatly the better for everyone

Funny, seeing as how I and every other Star Wars friend I know knew all about it. Not sure if this site was around in 2000, but it was all over the official Star Wars page and on fan sites. Hell, I even had a waiter at an Olive Garden tell me about it. When it was released it was one of the most anticipated releases of its time. YOu had to have had your head buried in the sand to have missed the hype that was generated for SWG. Gamespy alone was ALL over that game from the very begining. So no,wrong again on your part.

I seriously did not know about SWG until 2003, so not wrong. If it was known before 2003, which neither of those 2 links prove, then so be it, but I am not wrong in saying I knew nothing of it until 2003, that is fact. There certainly was not many known methods of keeping track at that time. I heard of SWG through magazines first. By the time SWTOR got released I was fully experienced with the internet and many many more sites about now, and getting updated faster.

I was not wrong on that either, because if I knew about it then it would have been hyped, but as I did not know about it was not hyped. Links show nothing, there was loads more hype for TOR as every body was talking about it even myself, but I was not talking about SWG until after it was released. SWG was easier to stay off peoples radars than SWTOR, so SWTOR got to more people, therefore generated more hype.

SWG had hype yeah. But I've never seen a game more hyped than swtor. Except maybe duke nukem forever!
But that's only a part of the reason for success. SWTOR appealed to more gamers than SWG ever did. They are 2 very different games. It also helps that swg was suddenly shut down without good reason just before swtor was released. Still it doesn't take away that swtor is a more appealing game to casual gamers than swg was. Personally I'd take swg tho. The game was richer and provided the better story as I was in control.

SWG was closed to make way for SWTOR, by LA. SOE wanted to keep it going and make it F2P, LA said "NO". If all MMOs get closed because can not hold a decent population, then Vanguard and DCUO would have been shut down, as SWG had more population than them put together at the time of SWGs closure announcement in June 2011.
At the rate SWTOR is dropping I would not be surprised that SWTOR will have less total players at the end of the year than SWG had in June 2011

No doubt about it TOR had loads of hype. But to say that SWG had little hype is to be ignorant of history. For its time it had as much hype as any company could hope to do for an MMORPG. I also fail to see how that takes away from a successful launch. To me it makes sense to hype your game so that the masses know it exists. That's just smart business.
But that's only a part of the reason for success. SWTOR appealed to more gamers than SWG ever did. They are 2 very different games. My favorite version of SWG was the CU. While many crafters complained about it, I thought it struck the right balance. If SOE had built on that I think it would have been a nice alternative to WOW. But when they hit us with the NGE, my entire city outside of Bestin left. It was devastating to the player community and I wouldn't wish that type of bait and switch on any game. I think anyone that does wish that type of underhanded tactic on others are shallow human beings.
I don't think they could turn the game into a sandbox without making an entirely new game. Pretty much all NGE did was change the character advancement.
So I guess they could re-do character progression, effectively pulling a backwards NGE, but the game would still be heavily themepark.
I don't know if I want to be a bounty hunting smuggling Jedi though.
The only way they could definitvely improve this game would be to open up the landscapes but they couldn't do that without making them much larger and redesigning every quest in them. It would be cheaper for them just to shut down this game and make a new one to sell to us.
I like the game but I admit there are flaws but I don't think it has anything to do with the combat. I enjoy the combat well enough (although more diversity in the skills would be nice). But yeath.... the problems with the game have nothing to do with the combat, in general. So, with all respect, you're mistaken.

At one point "Baywatch" was the most watched television program in the world.
Survivor of the great MMORPG Famine of 2011
lol great post. Honestly, SWTOR could use a reverse NGE. Diversify classes a bit

I don't think AoC had close to 1 million subscribers. Box sales yeah, but not people that stayed after the free month.
SWTOR needs to polish and fix the things it's trying to be before adding a new paradigm on top.
Eventually they couldn't hurt by adding in user created, sandboxy or more immersive elements at end game.

ROTFLMAO@U!!
If you acually believe you can compare an MMO game release in 2003 to one released today you are totally delutional, and the truth has already been stated even if you are having a bit of a tough time dealing with it... post NGE SWG WAS a far better game than the piece of crap TOR is currently.
I never said that you were wrong on when YOU knew about the game. I said that you were wrong about the amount of HYPE that SWG had. This whole conversation started with you trying to insinuate that TOR was more successful than SWG at launch because it had more hype. I just posted links showing that SWG had loads of hype leading up to launch. So yes, you were wrong. Just admit it and move on.

I saw this thread title pop up on the home page's current forum activity window and started LMAO!
Then I clicked on the thread and I see that it's you. I am at a loss for words. LOL

Mad Bro?
lol.......
Maybe an opinion, but it's one shared by an ever growing number of FORMER subscribers, and why are you interested in anyone holding anybodies jockstrap? You may have as many issues brewing as TOR...
/tsk

This is true. Swg's population was actually on the rise before the announcement to shut came.

The only way they could definitvely improve this game would be to open up the landscapes but they couldn't do that without making them much larger and redesigning every quest in them. It would be cheaper for them just to shut down this game and make a new one to sell to us.
No.
I like the game but I admit there are flaws but I don't think it has anything to do with the combat. I enjoy the combat well enough (although more diversity in the skills would be nice). But yeath.... the problems with the game have nothing to do with the combat, in general. So, with all respect, you're mistaken.
He he. If only everyone else loved SWTOR like you do.
