Everyone saying less than 500k are so stupid. Just can't believe how stupid someone can be.
But why? why will it have 2m players?
It's hardly sold any copies since the first month (around 150k copies over the last 2 months). Has SWToR suddenly because amazingly mind blowingly good in the last month and all us people who went 'meh, i'm done here' have missed out on the most amazing MMO experience ever? Because it certainly wasn't there when i was playing.
It's a decent MMO, not amazing. So 200k subs seems like a good number to settle at.
Over a million why ? GW2 is gonna FLOP with its pay to win cash shop that the fanboys keep ignoring and want to pretend will only have cosmentic items. TSW ? I got 1 word for you FUNCOM Anyone remember the AOC beta ? I wont ever trust that company again.
SO once GW2 flops and TSW is released way to early (thats what funcom does people) a SWTOR expansion will be out and people will be interested again.
Oh and when did some of you become experts ? TOR didnt meet expectation ? whos ? Yours ? Name another New MMO that sold over 2 million copies in the first week ? You cant. I got a question do you [mod edit] believe wow had 10 mil players from day 1 ? WOW didnt blow up until way after release.
It honestly depends on how their first big content patch goes. Generally games that have been on time with content patches and new content have done well. Rift's secret to success is just constantly creating new content. Even if the content sucks. Even if it's the exact same stuff over and over. No matter what, it's content... and on time.
If they do content on time they'' proably retain about 30% of their subscribers.
If they create content that is fun, lasts a long time and is repeatable they'll retain another 15% of their subscribers.
If they fix bugs and improve their PvP I wil estimate they will save another 5% subscribers.
So I'm going with anywhere between 100K-1M depending how much they put into this.

'pay to win cashshop' in a sequel to a game with a cashop that wasn't pay to win? 'being released too early' from a company that freely admitted they really screwed up and are taking their time this time around?
Yeah.

Agreed, it will be funny, as I said earlier not even one Very heavy server right now, one Full and that is the same one as always, there are more light servers atm then heavy.

Actually im far from a fanboy I played SWTOR to pass time, but I'm not blind.
Pay to win read the freakin updated FAQ about the cash shop you can be ignorant about the wording all you want, but the rest of us realize the words "through the investment of time." You tell me what else this could mean ? It tells me any item i can camp through the INVESTMENT OF TIME may very well be purchased in the cash shop. That is pay to win.
With TSW I have no hate i expect nothing and hope its good because I wanna try it, but I wont trust funcom and will bash them until they prove us all wrong.
Agreed, it will be funny, as I said earlier not even one Very heavy server right now, one Full and that is the same one as always, there are more light servers atm then heavy.
It's completely and utterly dead in europe seriously, a month after release you'd see 30 people, max, in the empire fleet at prime time.

Everyone saying less than 500k are so stupid. Just can't believe how stupid someone can be.
lol. I doubt they have 1.2 million active accounts, though with all the poor people that ran out and bought 60-day and 6-month time cards... It's going to take a LONG time for us to know just how badly the game is going...
I do know that people who like it still play like they did in the early release phase. I also know server traffic is so low on some servers they haven't been out of standard in four weeks and there are only ten servers (US) that still regularly hit 'heavy.'
So, can call people stupid. You can make bad-faith arguments. You can tell us that unicorns are real and you have faries in your garden. But the trend is the trend and even though they lowered the population caps necessary to get into standard or heavy on February 4th, the trend has caught up to that game, too:
This game is performing almost exactly like WarHammer Online. Big spike. Big drop. Lingering at an artificially high level because of all the 90-day accounts who rushed out and bought 60-day timecards plus their first month with the box.... Then, like Icarus, into the sea of mediocrity...
800,000 seems to be realistic figure. Too many people have been quiting, because their friends or guild mates are quiting and a lot of people are just using it as filler until one of the big 3 come out. Most noteably GW2.
What are you talking about GW2 is a filler till AA.
Well they could be waiting a while then. Game doesn't even have a publisher yet.
What are you talking about?
AA is a filler till Planet Side 2.
Planet side 2 is a filler until Command and conquer: generals 2.
and so on and so forth.
AA won't see massive success. Calling that right here, right now. It's a sandbox. They just aren't *that* successful. I'll happily accept your adoration and awe for my amazing skills of prediction when that turns out to be true when it releases. It'll be a great game for those interested though from what i've seen.
Planetside 2 isn't really an MMORPG, so it's not directly in competition with them, but it will be well worth people's time. I'll certainly give it a go.
Yeah all your games have no release dates. TSW does, thanks.
TSW will be a filler towards Star Wars: The Old Republic; Empire Strikes Back ... SWTORs first x pac.
Your funny, im curious how well they will surivive the onslaught of games coming out in 2012.

So you choose to interpret the words in a way which makes no sense in any way compared to their previous actions and the attitude of the developers as a whole The reaosn all the 'fanboys' ignore it, is simply because it's a non-issue. The only people shouting on about it are fanboys having wet dreams of the thought Arenanet would purposely sabotage their $120m+ game.
What it very likely means is that there are exp boosts (which matters little in GW2 as it's not a grind fest and the whole game is the 'endgame' compared to games like ToR), or that any cosmetic gear in the shop are available in game too (which they weren't in GW1, i might add). What really breaks your whole idea is that there's no 'epic loot', all stats across a level range for weapons is the same (with different upgrades). So a level 80 'pretty' weapon is just as good as a level 80 'ugly' weapon.
Also, dungeon armor and weapon sets are what makes up the majority of '1337 gear' and they're dungeon specific, and not purchasable. We also know that items such as transmutation stones (which allowed you to move weapon skins onto different statted weapons), which WERE originally cashshop only, have been put into the game for a karma fee. The laughable fact is, they're moving the opposite way to what you're hoping, and my god do i find it funny when someone tries to bring it up.
Oh, and you're missing this fact: PvP is perfectly balanced, everyone has everything. WvW has some element of PvE gear stat effects, but not a huge deal (and once again, it's a capped power level). Also, everything we've seen thus far is not going to be 'paid for', at all
So the worst effect of the cashshop? some guy can play level 80 content sooner. Zomg, i'm so offended. I can see why no-one would want to play the game now. I can't imagine such a horrible scenario where someone plays something before me.
I think it is funny that people say <500k subs when they will have that many, at least in the US and AMEA, as well as getting ready to launch in Asia and Asia Pac. I think it is too early to say for sure but I think it will be higher than peeps here suspect.
Nobody who understands the economics of MMOs cares about those. Those subs, for Blizzard, run $1 US a month. They don't even run at a proft. They're just kept on for marketing purposes... And considering how much free hype they've gotten over the years on the 12 million subscriber thing... It was worth every penny and then some.
If you actually believe that then you havent looked into the other titles enough yet.
TSW is the most innovative title to be released this year.
Archage is gonna take the sandbox titles easily being that the only other real sandbox for their fantasy is Wurm.
TERA is actually gonna push the PvP crowd for fantasy
and PlanetSide 2 is gonna take the pvp crowd for Sci Fi.
so wanna know what leg SWTOR has. The Sci Fi PvE catagory. and sorry unless something changes, PvE in SWTOR is quite lacking.
None of those have a major IP or are B2P so they can't be THAT successful.
RIFT, EvE and EQ are really the only ones that come to my mind.
not every idea needs to be stolen. wait originality, that cant possibly work. people dont have ideas, its crazy talk.

do you mean NOT based on a large IP. because thats what i was making fun of, i wouldnt make fun of you by saying be original if i was supporting it being off a large IP.

We are not talking about WOW though. Just because (if you are accurate) those Blizzard subs are not worth anything does not mean that EA and Bioware intend to follow suit.
Since you are in the know can you point me to some definitive information that expressly states those Blizzard Asian subs are only $1 US and have no value other than plublicity? Perhaps show what the economics around running local, Asian based servers look like from a profitability stand point? That would be awesome.

[mod edit] Perectly balanced pvp ? lol the game isnt out there is 0 chance its perfectly balanced now or ever there is no such thing as perfect in PVP let alone an MMO.
Im no fanboy of any of these games but explain to me how you pay for a 120mil game with cosmetic items and xp boost. You know how many people would have to spend ALOT of money in the cash shop to make it worth it ? Remember once you make your investment back the future revenue has to pay for the current dev team and any updates/expansions. This is a business they're here to make money and ill take the bet they add anything in the cash shop they believe will do that and the updated wording for them makes it possible.
$120m = ~4m box sales assuming 50% digital. Pretty easy to do considering GW1 made ~2m copies per major campaign and that was a teeny, tiny game by comparison that was very niche due to instancing ect. The development time for expansions is vastly less, so if they could make an average of 3m sales per expansions (which is a pretty low estimate considering the GW1 sales) they'll be more than fine.
Also, balanced gear wise, therefore negating any potential for a cash shop advantage. I don't have a clue if skills are balanced. i mistakenly thought you'd pick up on the fact we were talking about gear and the knowledge that PvP in GW2 uses 'max' stuff in PvP for everyone.
