I put 900k, but only because of all of the new releases this year. I think next year will be the big year for ToR content wise. I really have faith that Bioware is going to crank out some amazing content for years to come.
Content takes money, money comes from investors, Bioware/EA borrowed a ton of cash to make SWTOR and did not meet the numbers they promised investors, in this economy investors are VERY tight with their money, and if you don't make your target, you do not get another chance.
Granted they may do some half-assed crappy expansion on a nothing budget so they have something else to sell the suckers, but there is ZERO chance for a high quality high budget expansion.
WTF are you talking about? BioWare have been right on par with their promises to investors lol. Read FACTS dont make up your own.
You guys just spew nonsense all thetime without a clue.

Careful Bunks your failure to worship Bioware is going to get you in the timeout corner :P
Just in case, i have 20 more links with all their "promises" in reserve
Yes but none of them are real, just like the server status has issues showing very heavy loads which is why you don't see them anymore, just saying...........
Yea I see SWTOR holding less than 500k in a year. It won't have near the numbers it has now at all. The 1.7 Million will just be a flashpan in the memory of the games upstart. If they correct their issues I can see them having a strong playerbase. I dare say closer to 500k than the lower end of the spectrum.
Shame though, SWTOR coulda been a contenda..
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
Anyway following the title of the thread, i put an emphasis on Predictions.
You guy's can't predict with accuracy what will happen to the game in a years, especially knowing you are not representative of the entire player base of the game, wich makes your poll result biased.

End
you could predict it pretty much as well as weather man predicts the weather.. you can use patterns and past experiences to make an educated guess. In the end though obviously it's just a guess
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. Of course no one can. It is all in good fun and for debate. Stop taking everything so seriously
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Wow Dreadblade, that was quite painful. Just saying...
300k tops IF they manage to churn out their hideously overproduced and expensive content regularly... Frankly, I don't think EA is going to bother. The core design and the driving concepts of the game are not conductive to long-term retention. The game is already on the slippery slope as it is and I really don't see anyone new buying it 6 months down the line.
Personally I have a hunch that the managers are currently trying to find someone and hang him by the balls for proposing a "story based, fully voiced mmo with cutscenes" as a vehicle for recurring subscriptions so they can wash their hands in front of the investors.
I think somewhere in the 250k-400k range. Unless they get an expansion out within a year. Then I think will spike to 600k ish and then fall right back down two to three months later.

The mental image of coders and artists roaming the halls of Bioware with pitch forks and torches looking for a Frankenstein's monster makes me chuckle.
I haven't noticed any less people ingame than when it released, my guild is still playing the hell outa the game.
We talking about the same game? lol? swtor right? Oh i guess you must be on one of those magical pvp wc servers that never loses players and is very heavy/full all of the time. Well sorry to pop your bubble in dreamland over there but most of us are/were playing on light/standard servers even during peak hours.

I've been continuing to monitor the server page and one server I've noted that does tend to run heavier population wise is Canderous Ordo server. But otherwise I agree most servers stay at light/standard with 5 to 10 hitting heavy, and maybe 2 or 3 hitting very heavy, Canderous Ordo is the only one I see hitting "full" at times. So for 126 I think the count is for US servers, its not boding well. Replay value is near nill, it actually is tedious to level alts, I'd never had that experience before playing mmo-rpgs, and I'm a alt-aholic.
I've given up actually on my alts, my main is just about to hit 49th, the rest are. 25th, 21st, 15th, 13th, 8th, 6th, 3rd levels. Seriously the worst game ever to play an alt, AoC is a very very distant second for playing an alt. Can't even enjoy the crafting system with the alts since you dont craft, your companions do.
I would guess 250k-300k a year after launch. But thats just a guess.
With another crop of MMO's being released this year that may actually get away from the gear grind formula I think ToR will suffer.
IMO they played it too safe with the design choices. Instead of copy/paste from other games ( except VO ) they should have tried to make something a bit more unique.

That is part of the problem, Jd. They didn't even do a real cut and paste. They left out so many core mmo-rpg features that it is sort of sad. They should have played it safe and went with a cut and paste plus the voice overs/cuttaways. They'd have had a big successful game then, evne if a lot of us complained about it being a cut and paste. Instead they did a minor cropping of 'some" mmo-rpg features and tacked them onto a stand alone rpg game.
I think it is funny that people say <500k subs when they will have that many, at least in the US and AMEA, as well as getting ready to launch in Asia and Asia Pac. I think it is too early to say for sure but I think it will be higher than peeps here suspect.
Nobody who understands the economics of MMOs cares about those. Those subs, for Blizzard, run $1 US a month. They don't even run at a proft. They're just kept on for marketing purposes... And considering how much free hype they've gotten over the years on the 12 million subscriber thing... It was worth every penny and then some.
I'm curious as to where you read that they don't run a profit in Asia, would love a link to that. Sounds like an interesting read.
Over a million why ? GW2 is gonna FLOP with its pay to win cash shop that the fanboys keep ignoring and want to pretend will only have cosmentic items. TSW ? I got 1 word for you FUNCOM Anyone remember the AOC beta ? I wont ever trust that company again.
SO once GW2 flops and TSW is released way to early (thats what funcom does people) a SWTOR expansion will be out and people will be interested again.
Oh and when did some of you become experts ? TOR didnt meet expectation ? whos ? Yours ? Name another New MMO that sold over 2 million copies in the first week ? You cant. I got a question do you idiots believe wow had 10 mil players from day 1 ? WOW didnt blow up until way after release.
I'm sorry william, but you come off as such a massive fanboy it's hard to take you seriously
'pay to win cashshop' in a sequel to a game with a cashop that wasn't pay to win? 'being released too early' from a company that freely admitted they really screwed up and are taking their time this time around?
Yeah.
You can dream.
Why are you so threatened by GW2? Why are you threatened by TSW?
Actually im far from a fanboy I played SWTOR to pass time, but I'm not blind.
Pay to win read the freakin updated FAQ about the cash shop you can be ignorant about the wording all you want, but the rest of us realize the words "through the investment of time." You tell me what else this could mean ? It tells me any item i can camp through the INVESTMENT OF TIME may very well be purchased in the cash shop. That is pay to win.
With TSW I have no hate i expect nothing and hope its good because I wanna try it, but I wont trust funcom and will bash them until they prove us all wrong.
A therefore B does NOT mean B therefore A.
If I shoot someone he dies, therefore if someone dies it is because I shot him does not work...
They said that anything that you can get in the store(i.e. changing gender, renaming character, etc) can be done inside the game. That does not mean that anything that can be gotten in the game can be gotten in the store.

BioWare and EA expect 2+ million subs, potential pricing model 'twists'
http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/03/19/bioware-and-ea-expect-2-million-subs-potential-pricing-model/
they also boasted at the jan 2011 investors meeting 3.5 million sales.

Around 400K to 500K subs after one year.

MMOs Played: FFXI,Age of Conan, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, TERA, TSW, GW2
Playing:None
Waiting For: Wildstar, The Repopulation, Archeage, TESO, Warhammer 40K:EC, EQN
I think this game was launched too soon and failed on their expectations.
I played the closed beta and i played it for like 3 weeks and i couldn´t play it anymore.
I hope they fix the game and honor the great star wars .
