Tl:dr - Fantastic.
The first two days I spent getting to 27 after re-rolling on a new server(jagged coast) and then I spent the final day PvP'ing with my guild, I wasn't sure what to expect but damn it was fun.
Open-World PvP - We grouped up and went ganking(I know what you're thinking), but at the same time we called people out in area chat to come challenge us and it would turn into 10-20-30 man battles for quest hubs or the ability to get across a bridge, much fun was had we did this for hours, fighting between groups/other guilds trying to kill us. Until eventually one of the big guilds came by and facerolled us. Was really awesome.
Dueling - Not my cup of tea, 1v1 is just not action packed enough for me and it is imbalanced at lower levels, even with it being skill based, group PvP though is very balanced, don't get me wrong, because everyone can have a role to play.
Deathmatches - During the OWPvP gankfest we went on another guild that ran us down and battled with us for some time asked to do some deathmatches. So we had some friendly 5v5 deathmatches and we were wagering money. Well we won 4/5 and it was really fun, our strategy was basically, our lancer protect the healer with stuns/blocks, dps ignore their lancer and zerg the healer. It worked every time as long as we were organized, which we were 4 out of the 5 times.
GvG - We initiated two guild wars but never actually turned it into a massive battle due to our guild being small, Just saw the occassional enemy guild member and we'd try to kill him, however I know some massive guild battles went down especially on Valley of the titans, ones probably consisting of 50-100 people from the screenshots I saw.
Overall I thought the PvP was very good except for the obvious issues latency can create, my internet is really bad so on occasion I thought I hit the target but missed, regardless, it doesn't bother me too much.
One thing I need to note, I really hope EME/Frogster DO NOT release this game with too many servers, I want them all to be almost full, or atleast don't release a lot of PvP ones, for this awesome PvP to function there needs to be a lot of people online and it would be a shame if they ruined that with something as stupid and easily aviodable as adding too many servers.
Just something really interesting I found... World boss vs Apohtic, when at 1:45 No fun allowed comes in to take down apohtic and then they push them back then Touch Fluffy Tail flies in to take out World boss.

This video, in particular 3:10, should confirm if this game is well optimized for those that were wondering.

Ok cool, thanks for the post/thread.
So my question is "can this be the basis of an mmo on the outset?"
I looked to see if there were sieges and there aren't any. Which leads me to believe that there is no territory control.
Do you think you can do this whenver you are on for months at a time? Is there any incentive to GvG pvp?
I like fighting for fighting sake and actually do like 1v1 but is it enough to make the game a success or are players going to get bored?
I understand there are battle grounds witch are fine but I'm not clear that that is going to be incentive enough to make Tera a success.

Silly question but it's one of my pet peeves...
Does PvP involve everyone bunny hopping in circles?
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.

I am not sure as I have not made it later levels yet but there is territory control in TERA, all 18 territories can be controlled by guilds through battlegrounds or popular vote once in control you need to do special quests only a vanarch's guild can do to get points to make changes.
It's basic right now but they are supposed to be reworking it later this year when adding server vs servers, one can only hope they do.
You can't jump and attack at the same time, so no.
Well, if they hit you while in the air, you get immediately knocked down,
The guild i was part of Kings of Beta, had fights against four other guilds. When i was questing or in outposts i would always seen enemies. I had fights against territ, teamliquid and a popori guild, can't remember the name.
And i also agree, the PvP in this game is awesome, i had lot's of fun! Can't remember the last time i had this much fun in PvP to be honest.
Im curious to see how it will be in the live servers and in highers lvls.
Not at all.
That's what I LOVE about it.
I actually felt like I was fighting over that ridiculous jumping bean thing that some games have.
The Warrior can spring over you but it's not an issue. It's actually pretty cool
meh, now I want to play.

hehe, its always fun for the ganker in open world pvp....
The guild I was in for the beta did the exact same thing. Just stood in fromt of lumbertown and ganked everyone, they would constantly change channels and just killed everything. I personally did not like it at all....its kind of boring to stand in front of a low level area to grief all day....
There problem was essentially the same thing you had, they wanted a chanllenge and sense there was no battlegrounds in the beta or any way to actually set anything up they went looking for pvp by killing lowbies in hopes to get higher levels to come fight. This is why I have never really like open world pvp...
We had plenty of challenge, we were overcome 5 or 6 times and completely owned. How big was your guild?
Well Im kind of going by your comments here:
" We grouped up and went ganking(I know what you're thinking), but at the same time we called people out in area chat to come challenge us..."
Im assuming you started ganking people and going into general chat to get ppl to challenge you because you didn't have a challenge. Our guild ended up doing almost the same thing but in a slightly different way. You did find a challenge but after you caused havok and grief for a bunch of people. I prefer the standard find a match way .
At the end of the beta we were 100+.
Not to make jokes here but zerg guilds like that always fail in real pvp, when some of the more established pvp guilds come to play. I was just roaming with 4-5 people the whole time and having a blast. Then again, I was playing the archer and beating anyone 1v1. Yes the 1 shot zerkers are good, but if you can kite, G/O.
Guild war is just for fun, the real stuff is in Arean 5v5 and 10v10, because thats what decide how control areas. The guild can have more people and win by zerging but if they can't hold up in 5v5 or 10v10 it means nothing.
We weren't a zerg guild either, it was just 8 of us in vent. But due to the outlaw system and other events, plus the fact some people were lower level it turned into 20-30 person battles.
The zerg guilds were the ones that steamrolled us, they came charging in with 30+
Open world PVP was great. Esp. when you saw other guilds that your guild was at war with. Keep the open world pvp going En Masse, tell the carebears PVE servers are that way -->
I agree, the system is fine like it is. There is no reason to give rewards or tokens for PKing in the open world, It should be for fun (or revenge) with no penality for PKing someone, even if that means a few lowbies get wrecked.
Guild vs Guild could have a reward system built in but most likely it would desolve into kill trading or explots, so leave it as is. At least for now.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Outside Porpori was it? I saw two guilds going at it. It was like 15 on 15 atleast. That looked pretty epic. How many games out on the market or in betas do you see that now? Open world pvp with that many people? And that's just the beginning. I can see large scale battles coming up with the Political system.
Poltical system is going to be Arena based because 5v5 and 10v10 is about skills any more than that its too messy. My guild try to amush a waring guild while they pratice 10v10 death meath in their own guild. We thought there only be 20 of them and we had 17 people. We run in to find like 30-40 people lol got total owned XD Later we ask for some 10v10 pratice matches since we were going to loss anyways might as well get some pratice in lol. We lost pretty badly but good pratice none the less. As soon as i figure out how to put music on the stupid video i'll upload it.
Just something really interesting I found... World boss vs Apohtic, when at 1:45 "No fun allowed" comes in to take down apohtic and then they push them back then "Touch Fluffy Tail" flies in to take out World boss.

Seeing about 60+ people on screen at 3:10 should confirm how well TERA runs. Many MMOs this is not possible.
im with you pivot. tera cbt2 was the best pvp experience ive had in a long time. looking forward to cbt3.
I've got the straight edge.
Yeah, this will be a really long two weeks. :'(
Not for me =D i got Bio midterm on firday, Chem lab pratical on thrusday XD than its SPRING BREAK!!! yes i know its like 1 month earlier than everyone else lol.
I do not have school either and it's winter, that's the worst part, I have literally nothing to do for two weeks while waiting to play.
If anyone has more videos like this one I linked, I wouldn't mind seeing them. I rolled on Jagged Coast and it seems all the action happened on Titans, so bonus points if you find huge GvG from Jagged Coast.
fixed that for ya
I don't think SW:TOR or Rift could ever handle it, I get much higher FPS in TERA than either of those games.
I had to turn the graphics down to 1, but yea there was about 800+ in the epic battle. After Fluffy showed up, Aphotic and us (World Boss) joined up and took on 4 chan and Fluffy. It was easily 800+ players fighting at once.
GW sadly doesn't make you #1 arena does ^_^ but GW is so much fun >=D
