Blizzard will soon realize that they're going to have the same issue of getting players from WoW that every other company has. Unless of course they purposely tank WoW in order to transition those players. Wink wink?
I was thinking what could boost fantasy mmo world again and i came to conclusion that only Blizzard can make again huge mmo with millions of players. But what kind of game? There is no need to think much. New wow with next gen graphic and i will sub again for another 6-7 years. Nothing can compare with magic world of Azeroth
A little narrow-minded there? Just because Blizzard came up with a very polished mmorpg but nonetheless, very traditional mmorpg (with a huge IP behind its name) at a time where mmorpgs were scarce, does not mean that its next mmo will succeed just as much in the second time round as there are just exponentially more mmorpgs out there and millions of mmorpg players over the last decade had a chance to taste of almost every element and feature that make up an mmorpg.
It will simply not be enough to give WoW next gen graphics and stamp a "2" after its name. Blizzard would have to do so much more. This is even more so given that GW2 and TSW will shake things up a bit when they get released because of how different they both play out in comparison to thousands upon thousands of "WoW clones" as people call them.
This is why the Blizzard's new mmorpg Titan is going in a different route to focus on casual gamers and will apparently be f2p to accomodate that (still rumors for now though). Apparently, it is going to be the biggest project Blizzard has ever undertaken and according to Blizzard COO Sams, Titan is going to eclipse WoW "http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33209/Interview_Blizzard_COO_Sams_Says_Many_Years_In_Front_Of_WoW.php". Personally, it sounds pretty exciting as I believe Blizzard is really going to shake things up in mmorpg industry too this time round with Titan in order to really compete this time round.
Bottom line, WoW with next-gen graphics will just not be enough to compete in this day and age and Blizzard knows that. It is safe to say that we won't be seeing WoW 2 for a very long time to come.
I'm confused, why would you need a new WoW from Blizzard when there are so many clones on the market to choose from? Or, am I sounding like the random people that claim that there are X-number of sandboxes on the market, and you're apparently NOT a sandbox player if you don't like what's out there now?
Does anyone see the irony in this other than me ?
Blizzard makes quality games.
Companies imitating them haven't. The closest they've come were TOR and RIFT. Games worth playing, but not really worth playing longterm like WOW was.
So that's basically why we'd need one from Blizzard.
But Blizzard probably won't do it (at least not for ~10 years.) The company doesn't seem to enjoy misstepping, and creating a WOW 2 would definitely be a misstep compared with their other options.

And to the retards talking about metrics...according to your logic then ...facebook games are the second comings and all games should be measured to their standards since they have the ABSOLUTE proven most subscribers and most people online at any given time playing right?
WoW is the best because of their measly 10 million players...not hardly. How bout the 230 million facebook clickers???????
Wow is small change in the wordwide money machine.
Very nice name calling. Have some class.
Facebook is already more accessible to millions of people than WoW is. Also, is that 230 million people taken from a single FB game or all FB games? It doesn't make sense if you put them all together and pit them against WoW alone. Also the mentioned metrics apply only among MMORPGs, but do I have to explain why? Like I said before, Facebook is being used even by non-gamers. A huge portion of those users can get attracted to gaming. With Wow, you'll have to have a gamer's mindset before you even pick it up!
So regarding the "best" MMORPG ever made that will not be subjected to personal bias, World of Warcraft is indeed the best as it is the only MMORPG to date that has been able to attract the most players. So what if its a bastardization of the established MMORPG mechanics you know of? In the end, only a small amount of gamers will be playing their "real" MMORPG while the rest of the populace will be playing WoW(or derivatives of WoW). And as it has always been, majority wins. If the very definition of MMORPG should change, it will change because of the majority and not the other way around.
I am really hoping that their new MMO that will come out that is titled codename titan will be a PvE open world Sandbox MMO based off of a Diablo universe. If not then I have years of enjoyment coming soon enough in GW2.

Its about time blizzard took back the 1-2mil players who hate RPG's that they brought into the genere. Really sick of people complaining for non-wow games to be easier/simpler/faster to endgame...
The non stop complaining that has been the mmorpg scene since 2006 ish needs to end with a blockbuster wow 2.0. Make it with no levels no progression just create the character and grind gear tokens and reputation and do arena matches and instanced pvp. That is the game that people now want because blizzard brought in a ton of players who hate RPG's and got them hooked on RPGs.
I miss my mmoRPG's...smaller community that wasnt a bunch of kids fighting over who can troll the best, talk about eachothers mother, or insert the newest internet meme the fastest.
Im sure theres plenty of players who would pay $100 for a box and $30 a month for a game that isnt a wow-park and doesnt have any of the wow community.
One good thing it did bring was a group wipe warning sign : "dont worry i tanked/healed in wow for 5 years we will be fine"

We are talking about Blizzard here.
Warcraft 1, 2 & 3. Diablo 1, 2 & 3. Starcraft 1 & 2 (they also made ghost but cancelled it durning the beta). See any connection?
Of course they will make Wow 2 and Wow 3. I am sure they already have a small team looking into it, but Blizzard also are known for being slow so my estimate for launch is 2018 or so.
They will proabbly make a graphical revamp for regular wow pretty soon, at least if they want to keep as many subs as possible. My guess is for the expansion after the pandas. They have talked about it for years, but Wows subs have only really dropped the last year or so, before that happened there really was no reason for them to spend all the money.

I would much rather they make a Starcraft MMO.
And i think the charm of WOW is the simple but really cool design graphics. I don't think making WOW look realistic will make it a much better game. Graphics design >>> graphics realism. Skyrim has much better graphics but i have yet to see a weapon or piece of armor and i will go .. "that looks really cool".

Of all the complaints I have about WoW, the graphic style was never really a big one. I can only think of 3 problems I have with WoW's appearance.
1) God-awful gaudy oversized shoulder plates and weapons.
2) Inability to make a male character that isn't ugly.
3) Really more of a 2.5, but the fact that all male characters look monstrous compared to female characters who look rather normal. Troll women, for example, look like tall humans with blue skin and stanky teeth. Troll men look like...trolls.
Other than that, I never considered WoW a graphically bad game.

1) That is a matter of taste. I do LIKE over-sized shoulders and weapons .. they often looks COOL.
2) I thought blood elf males are pretty ..... but other than that .. most other males are not.

The in-game models for them look pretty normal to me. The out-of-game artwork, though (load screens for example) still draw them with huge bulging chins, big noses, and "old man" style bushy eyebrows.

WoW's success was all about timing, both gamewise and technology wise.
Why new WOW? Game was great, but that set is mostly depleted now and there is no point in continuing. Much better choice is to make completly new world with new lore, like this Titan project they are working on. But in the end, will have to wait and see.

do you tried rift?

let me start with i love wow , That said what the are u thinking, No way should they make a new wow, The old one works just fine,
id much rather see blizzard make a starcraft mmo or diablo or create a new property , or lease the rights to a popular ip and make that an mmo
Wow is just fine the way it is, id much rather blizzard make a completly new game then re do wow.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
New WoW has come out many times... and it gets more and more boring.
People are ready to move on to something that is not a themepark game. People want more of a sandbox or at least a fun game not another solo MMORPG.
What "people" are you talking about? 2M "people" bought TOR and 1.7M stays on after 30 days.
Do you have numbers for these mysterious "people" who want more of a sandbox aside from a few on this forum?
Not a bad idea. Probably is that a Titan
3 expansions down the line, GW2 will not be much (if any) cheaper.
point?
If you want to create a good game:
(a) be a gamer
(b) create the game you would like to play
