I'm a girl and I can def say that the beautiful graphics and detailed characters appeal to me A LOT, but I don't think that's all. My fav online game so far was Warhammer Online and imo it had horrible graphic (details) compared to ie Aion or Tera but it was just SO MUCH fun playing this game (loved the quests, loved rvr, loved bgs). I'm also a huge Eve Online fan and the graphics there are completely different from any other MMO I've played so I don't think you could say that girls are drawn to games that look "pretty", at least not all of them.

As for Tera I must admit, the female Castianic and Elin (?) races seem to attract most attention by both male and female players (more male I guess) and to me they do not appeal AT_ALL, I kinda despise them actually although the castianic armor designs are really something but the general stance of the models is horrible, fantasy game or not, designing girls in close to no armor with lifting heavy weaponery - no problem, but designing girls in close to no armor lifting heavy battleaxes but standing as if they just broke their spine AGAIN - no way. I'll play a male toon that's for sure!

My biggest gripe with Castanics females is how tiny they seem when placed next to Amani females, haha. They are just a bit higher than Elin and Elin oversized bodies make Castanics look frail.

Still, the most hilarious race to play with those huge weapons is Popori, hands down.

Lol. I never understood why guys would play as a females, I for one like to mimic / portray myself into my character online. Then a thought occured to me... "Why would I want to stare at a male butt for HRS in my MMO!" Straight guys can relate.. Seeing a female from the back is soo much more appealing...

So now I can see, why SOME guys would play as female characters, though I only do when my GF is not around.  image

i roll female toons a lot for a simple reason: they're not distracting. it seems to me that the nerds who designed them spent so much time making them fluid and smooth in their animations that you can easily tune them out. the male characters often have jagged animations and walk funny.

When I was younger I used to play male avatars exclusively. Back then I was considering the avatars a virtual representation of myself in the world. These days I play female avatars exclusively. They are characters that I care in a virtual world, it's easier for me to feel empathic to a female avatar than a male one.

I guess that just shows that i don´t really know what female gamers want. :(

my wife's a huge anime freak as well as an mmo gamer. i think a lot of politically correct screamers would be surprised to find that not all girls like ankle-length robed characters with static boobs.

edit: any more than i do ;)

lol too right, my GF loves the seksi models :D

Most protesters are usually guys in my experience... weird that.

i reckon so. a good example is her experience in swtor isn't satisfying because the robes are ankle-length and she's rolled a marauder, so feels she's not looking frontline enough. fashion means a lot to her. her favourite piece of gear so far has been a cape, because of the way it moved and she's still looking for a pair of pants to show off her legs. if swtor had short skirts, she'd be running around in that. i guarantee it.

having said that, she bucks the trend by never playing healers or casters. she's strictly dps and pvp-oriented. i'm very proud of her.

I hope I didn't come across as a perv or some crazed n00b, who gets a rise out of virtual female designs.. It's really just a matter of preference and what makes a person enjoy / play / care and as the above statement said "feel empathic," torwards your own personalized character.

Thats just another thing I really like about MMOs, the story behind them allows for a unique experience and customization in the roles (as a player) for anyone, who may choose to do so.

why would you think that? women wear revealing clothes in real life so why would it turn them off in a game?

I talked to one girl who said she enjoyed the skimpy armor and said that if her character had the body to show some skin why not show it. Lol, we may never know what girls want.

Or worse, we might. Justin Bieber seems to be one of the things many of them wants...

real women don't like justin bieber.

Guys will never know what WOMEN want, it's just one of the many rules of the cosmos. We can only guess or at least get close, enough to make them happy and tolerate us..

    Lol. This may be true...

Pictures or vent in game, or this is a scam, just-kidding... You'll never know whos behind the screen of any character, though if they say they're of female gender, I'd keep a questionable but optimistic approach...Until proven other-wise. Heh

The fact is that more and more females actually play MMOs so OP might be right.

Heck, in M59 real females were really rare.

But it is rather logical, P&P RPG actually have plenty of female gamers (particularly World of darkness) so it is not strange that they eventually mtry out MMOs as well.

Same as me. Besides there are no female poporis.

20 real females playing a game is a start, but it's not revolutionary.

The game can crow when it's 40% plus of the playerbase.
