Sorry, but the guy talking was funny when he did the walk through ´ we are going to dig deeper into the chaos´... while showing a woman.. who was just kidnapped and dumped into an alley, slow walking following a person in a raincoat for no reason.... The guy talking made it sound so mysterious.. but it was just a chick walking down an alley...
Then you have some really stupid scene in a hotel room, that looks like 1995 anime porn. Funcom marketing at it´s best.. the same company that made ´we show nipples´ a game feature that was marketed.
Honestly, I am surprised Funcom even released this it is so bad.. usually they hide their garbage until you have bought the box.

looks like neither the game or the Dragon faction fits you...
anyway, regarding the hotel scene, each faction presents the player to the event that happened 3 weeks earlier (in the game time)... and each faction has an unique way of enlightening the player to show the event, I'm going to steal a post from Ithnag, in the official forums:
"It's a form of enlightening that's been used since the dawn of man, with added taoist and similar elements thrown into it.
The Templars open your mind (unexpectedly) via madness (the ramblings of the madman)
The Illuminati open your mind (forcefully) using drugs (the mad doctor straps you to a med-bed and injects you a not too healthy dose of mixed drugs)
The Dragon Open your mind (using seduction) via ecstasy (the seductress)
Those 3 are some of the most used and known methods to search for enlightening in history of man. They all were used extensively in the past and are still used. Madness, psychotropics and pure pleasure.
People has taken it as some dirty gimmick by FC, showing how little they can see what's really there or how little they know about the subject."
Of course that those who don't know the game very well or can only see oral sex, will not understand the meaning of the scene.
That wasn't even one of the hard to understand cutscene that the game can offer.
This looked... awful. Incredibly frusterating too, because the premise of the game (both setting and how the skills work) are really facinating... but that was just.. bad.
But this is typical Funcom. Ok, so the male developer starts off creating a female character.. proceeds to show her in skimpy outfits.. finally settles on a cowgirl top.. .. then we get to the gameplay..which is 30 seconds walking very slowely down an alley.. and then 4 minutes in a hotel room with another woman in a very sexual atmosphere.
Again, this is Funcom.. a company that couldn´t go through a 5 minute interview about AOC without mentioning that there would be nipples.
That is their marketing.. Just like AOC, gameplay will suck, but hey.. you will get to be part of this lesbian hotel scene every time you create a female.
With the lack of actual gameplay footage, they could have shown a lot more than just this stupid crap for 12 year old boys.
This video looks absolutely like shite. The opening scenes where the rain drops were hitting the side of the cars looked just like the ones hitting the road. The animations and graphics looks like a badly done 1990s adventure game.
Seriously? Some people are excited about this game?

Not trying to knock on you about your opinion of the footage, perhaps it just left you with a feeling of wanting to actually know more about The Secret World. I think it what they were mainly going for in the video presentation. Just trying to give people a feel for how the game actually functions and what the main points of the game that are meant to draw you in.
We've seen a short clip on the introduction of the Illuminati as well, so this gave me some more of the same in that department. Although I too am looking out for more in depth footage as far as mechanics and some encounters. I don't like getting too much info on these though because it might take a way a little from the actual experience when you play through it in game.
I don't think this game is going to appeal to the average 12 year old and for most mature players that footage wasn't the raciest thing we've seen in our lives. It's good to see a transition into more adult content in games, something I've been wanting for a long time.
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
Hm. While I like the setting and the idea... nothing I see here or otherwise really convinces me. What I see is just another "shooter with story" and nothing creative. The attack animations all looked like 10+ years old, and the visuals weren't so great either.

The animations do concern me in that the players don't seem to have any "weight" or momentum in the world, which surprises me because I think Funcom nailed that "weightiness" in Age of Conan so given that they're using the same (and improved) engine I'm not sure if this is just a finishing touch they haven't added yet or what. The animations do seem to have improved since the last footage we got... I think.
I'm also hoping that the reason Funcom still aren't letting people show more hands-on footage (all the press I've read said they only got 45 minutes of playtime?) on their own systems rather than in-house during dev presentations is because they don't want to spoil all their great story secrets. But it doesn't do much to give an idea of HOW the game will play when you're actually going through and can't hop from one continent to another with access to full skill sets.
I'm intrigued by what we're seeing and I want to know more, but it's frustrating because so much is still up in the air (we have HEARD about plenty).
My conviction with gamespy prevents me from ever touching there site with a 100 foot pole again, so if someone could be so kind as to give another link I would love that, I cant find anything on youtube.
There are some interesting mechanics but so far the asthetics are weak IMO, when you hit things you don't seem to make real contact like in other soon to be released games. That's important to me. The story could be interesting, but I'd have to see more of the game or play it to see if I liked it. I notice they have a Trinity system, which is a big turn off.

Im usually forgiving with animations, though gameplay does look a bit on the stiff side, i think this is the reason that a lot of people will rage quit early on. Personally, as someone who played anarchy online, which has the worst aminations in the world, substance overrides this sort of thing. Hopefully the substance of the game will be good enough to where most wont even notic...unless its just an early phase tweaking issue were seeing.
The trinity system is a loose trinity system, youll need people to control the encounter, and X amount of healing abilities to complete a boss. Everyone could satisfy heals with leech skills, or a few could provide light heals, or one guy can power heal. They are doing a mix and match approach to the trinity. Two players with light tanking ability could bounce the boss between them, and that strategy might be needed to defeate some encounters for all we know.
Im just curious how the PVE and storyline play out in terms of restricting gameplay and preventing people from just playing the game, that was one of the big allures with anarchy, at least before shadowlands, you just just go about what you liked, so long as you frequented periodic dungeons for their great loot...even with shadowlands and their instanced and dynamic events there was freedom to the point where i didnt have to visit the next quest hub in order to see the one down the road...there were no hubs. I hope TSW follows in those footsteps, i dont want a SWTOR storyline type where im in it to 50, as entertaining as their storylines were, some planets i wanted off asap, some i could have stayed longer if i could ect.
I think its also going to be quite interesting to see pvp in this game. Clearly the games focus isnt pvp queues to endgame, and no doubt players will join the game and go at it like a FPS deathmatch game. Im interested to see if its engaging for them, if the skill system provides uqnique builds and fighters or if someone chooses a good build and we see every pvpers using the same weapons and skills....
Even if your not interested int he game its going to be quite an interesting launch/free month to watch. Theres a lot of high emotions focused towards this company and a whole hell of a lot of people still pissed about AoC would LOVE to see this game crash and burn. I think its a step in the right direction, breaking the wow-park progression mold.
Oh I'm interested in the game, I just noticed a few things I didn't like from the video (of an unfinished game, mind you), but your post cleared up the Trinity matter a bit, so thank you. It doesn't sound as hyper-dependent as WoW, but I will approach it with caution like I do all MMOs.

Hear that a lot, and I know that's the intention, but I seriously doubt it makes it live that way. The openness of the builds will be great for solo-play and probably shine until nerfed in PVP but I'll bet we end up with a fairly strict trinity model very quickly. Either that or gameplay just won't be challenging.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the close ups in the story. Reminded me of old computer animation when it was just becoming popular. lol Hopefully they're placeholders..
The beta is very feature incomplete and combat (not just the animations) needs a lot of work. That much information is available if you want to look for it at sites dedicated to beta leaks.
I always felt Funcom has excellent game designers in terms of ideas, but they have some of the worst programmers, system designers, and marketing teams. Their games tend to release as a complete mess. I really want TSW to be successful, and it was my the game I was most hyped about last year, but the more information and leaks I hear about it the more I question whether it's going to be any good.
Also at the person stating TSW will have a light trinity, I'm not sure where you got the information. Everything points to you'll need a dedicated tank and healer. Why set up as a two light tanks when you can have one dedicated one that performs their role better? Aggro is still controlled with taunts and threat. This isn't Guild Wars 2 where you can't have a dedicated healer and need people to alternate tanking roles. There are abilities specifically for dedicated tanking and healing in the game and I don't even think the developers themselves ever claimed there will be a light trinity and they are making an effort to reduce reliance on trinity.
One of the things I was pissed about personally was when Funcom told me I could be anyone I wanted to be, then a few months later in the dungeon walkthrough they go and basically state that this character is going to switch to Elemental Magic because the fights aren't melee friendly due to PBAoEs. So I'm gimping myself if I play melee in that dungeon? What happened to playing the character I wanted to play?

Aye, and the "you can switch roles any time in a dungeon so you don't have to wait for a tank to complete a dungeon!"
Yeah? what if I don't want to tank?

Let´s not kid ourselves, that is the same ´adult´ BS that funcom was saying about AOC. ´We are sorry our game offends you, but we are showing nipples because we want to have a more mature game.´
It is not about being racey... it is not about maturity.. it is about the marketing they are doing AGAIN... They are not showing content, they are not showing systems... they are showing stuff that makes 12 year old boys giggle in a locker room.

do you really believe that the footage does not show content or systems?
do you really believe that funcom was trying to target 12 year old boys with that cutscene?
well, what else can be said? I can only agree to disagree.

Wrong. It sounds to me like you have a beef with Funcom, probably because of AoC. But even if that isn't the case, the TSW marketing is completely different from how it was with AoC, the theme and setting isn't anything for 12 yr old incl the Dragon intro - which becomes clear when someone uses his/her 18+ yr old brain and realises what the scenario is really about - and they've been forthcoming enough about showing content and systems, for anyone who isn't stuck in their prejudice towards FC and has been taking a look at available footage.
Let it go, man. Or if you don't like to let go of a permanent grudge towards FC, at least be objective enough to look at facts, not on conjecture.
Ok...so...this game is gonna fail sooooo bad...i mean wtf is this???
A game with a hub where people meet and make a party to go to instances, funcom once more tricking people into thinking they are making an mmorpg....
Remember Age of conan? 800.000 players at launch and 2 months later 100.000 stayed thats a 87% player loss in 2 months after launch...in any book a failure.
As a co-op multiplayer game it might be a nice one but as an mmorpg its just crap..its not in that category.

AoC had sold 700k copies a bit over a month after release and had about 200k subscribers the first year (just check their financial report). Last quarter they had around 100k subscribers. Maybe you should check your numbers?
