And finally the final nail wen't into the coffin as far as my economie experience with WoW goes, I had worked for around a month to level my engineering to 350 (I think that was the cap at the time) And in 2 nights a friend took one of his alts from 1-cap on engineering, I was like...WTF!
My friend (who played to much) had his main with 2 jobs capped and then 2 alts with the jobs capped at that. And thats the way most people did it.
So are in-game economies better now? IMO?....not at all.
Two points.
First, why is this bad? You are jealous of your friend .. sure .. you take a month, he know how to take 2 nights. So you feel bad. How is this bad economics? I thought people here are for people who play smart get rewarded.
Secondly, I don't see how your friend did it in 2 days unless he has tons of gold to spend. I have a toon with engineer at max .. and it takes a LONG time if you grind the mats.
So if he spend lots of gold on it, it is not two nights. You fail to discount the time he used to acquire the gold (unless of course he bought gold from a gold farmer .. in that case .. it is a whole different discussion).
Well at the time his alt was like...65(I honestly don't remember exactly) but it was near cap, and he did have alot of gold, he capped it with around 600g (which I guess from what I hear now is nothing)
But it wasn't a jealousy thing, but if anyone can cap a job in just a few days...all they need is a shitload of gold. then just about everyone has capped professions. which makes crafted items worthless. WORTHLESS So.. with craften items being worthless the only jobs that were worth doing for gold were farming ones. Which means that raw materials were worth MORE then crafted ones...
I don't miss the slow transportation, the broken economy where materials were worth more than final products (consistantly through all levels of crafting).
Isn't it still like this?
It is most DEFINITELY still like this in many games, just not all of them. I am at a complete loss as to why devs bother to make crafting such a broken system, because in the end, items are always better from raids than through crafting.
Oh wait, you can thank raiders for that particular broken system, because they whine harder than spoiled 9 year old girl right before Xmas if anything but raid items are at the top.
Also, on the debate about the crafting professions being easy to cap, that also leads into why it is broken, and all the companies have done to fix this is make games limit the number of skills you can level in crafting.
My blog is a continuing story of what MMO's should be like.

I hate to say it, but I think Archeage is doomed. I just have this feeling about it, because it is trying to do something awesome, and I have watched awesome after awesome game fail to make it to market over the years because they didn't have the funding. If Blizzard were making Archeage in the way that the current devs are, that game would be out and dominate. But we all know that if Blizzard were making such a game, they would screw it up.

Playing UO back in the day on a 56k modem through AOL....Would love when I was trying to tame that damn dragon and would get a lock-up then hear those horrible words "Goodbye" when AOL kicked me off....
Back in my old DAOC days two things really stand out. One was hitting the space bar and poping off the horse...Like someone said early on it was run for a long ass time or go up to a pack of mobs and let them eat you.
Another DAOC was playing a caster class and then being dumb and letting your mana run to like 20%...And not having a bard to help with the mana regen. Might of well sat down and went afk for a while =P
Oh one more thing back from my UO days...Remeber having to item drag something cause you were to heavy and had to click drag items along...I sooo remeber going mining and then getting to much ore having to click drag it....but you had to be careful cause anything on the ground was able to be taken from you.

Not right away....
.....slowly......
......one expansion at a time.
True story. Thats one thing that kinda bugs me about ppl that hate on WoW, I mean what it is now...is complete crap. BUT at one time it was a good MMO.
same thing with my all time fav. FFXI, used to be the best thing ever...now.. its easymode
The only thing I dont miss from the old school is the constanly needing to "med up" for minutes at a time after every combat. If I win a hard fight, I shouldnt be punished by having to sit down on my arse for 2-3 minutes to regain my health, my health should jump up to full or near full within seconds after exiting combat IMO.

I dont miss Tibia's death penalty system. Its a bit like wow. lol jk, you would lose a level (most of the time) and days of skills 'training'. Also, playing on dial up and having server crashes every once in a while wasnt that nice, so i dont miss those 2.. umm.. 'features' :either :=o)

....soo.... yeah ..I win?
hm .. if anyone can cap a job in just a few days .. why would that make craft item worthless?
a) it took boatload of gold .. so while it is fast, not everyone can do it.
b) there are rare recipes & expensive one that you can make money on (which i do regularly). Maxing your profession skill does not mean that you have a money making recipe.
c) Hmm .. i just checked AH prices .. certainly it is NOT true that raw material are worth mroe than crafted ones for all the items. Only a fraction.
Actually I LOVED that, luring a beggar to a spot like orc hill and give him 10g in copper coins, then leave him there. Was always fun to see a begger getting owned being unable to move at all because of the coin weigh.
I have mixed feelings about how teleportation spells worked back then. Led to alot more harrasment from players who apparently thought you drop everything at the snap of THEIR fingers and run to them (instead of them meeting at a wizard spire or druid ring). On the other hand it was fun when a lets say warrior was being a d-bag in demading to be teleported only to get teleported into Plane of Hate. Good luck getting your corpse and gear back bucky.

I don't miss...
Logging in,
waiting for a group,
trying to start a group,
getting close to a group,
watching people leave group,
having healer jumping for already formed group,
waiting for group,
logging off.
Hours upon hours of boss camping.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Requirement of a group to progress
Horrendous graphics
Long ass waits just to do something
Poor game design
Downtime
I don't play games to turn my attention to something else like the TV while I wait for something
in EQ it was specially bad waiting for transportation or waiting to regain mana

I mentioned in another thread that FFXI was never hard, nor was it easy. MMO's by their nature are usually not about skill, but rather level and gear.

I don't miss...
Being disconnected from UO during a PvP battle because someone picked up the phone.
And to think today I'm fretting about ATT's lack of service region, or general lack of service region.
