For months now all we have heard is "GW2 will reward being skilled because you have skills and not because you have better gear!" Now it turns out you will be able to buy Gems with RL money to turn into gold which can be used to buy "cosmetics". Well since gear isnt differentiated by stats, all gear is essentially cosmetic. This means they can sell ANYTHING and claim it doesnt provide advantage to a player.
So if I run a dungeon on the hardest setting in order to get the best gear (cosmetic) from it, that means it took skill to acquire. You have to be a better player to acquire this gear....o do you? If people can just buy the gear that is supposed to take actual "skill" to acquire then how the hell does that reward skill???????!
What is the point of being "skilled" at this game? What reward will it provide other than being skilled for the sake of being skilled?

in guild wars you can purchase a basic set of gear with the same stats as the prestiege gear you are talking about getting through dungeons. Same stats but the prestiege looks a lot better.

Cool so the gold will have a set real world value not determined by the gold farmers, but ny Anet itself. I really feel that if they are going to sell gold they should buy it also. It's stupid to think that people won't undercut them. Why not let the players resale the gold legitimately instead of all the money going overseas to Asia?
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
If being highly skilled and winning at something competitive isn't enough and you NEED the trophies and money and fame etc. you know what you are called?
Yes...yes you do have to be a better skilled player to acquire the Dungeon gear SINCE (wait for it my friend) you cannot get that full set of armor any other way than running the dungeon 5/6 times (once for each piece), recieving a non-tradable TOKEN for your success. BTW these TOKENS can not be exchanged for other gold based items, unlike KARMA. So you if you want to be styling and epeening about your armor, feel free. Run those dungeons with the full knowledge that if you see another person wearing the same armor, they to spent the time, rather than the RL $ to get it!
A normal human being?
since they have stated quite a few times that only decent players will be able to complete the explorable dungeons... and then there is PVP skill and thats a whole other thing. Skill will make you look the coolest because the best looking things come from the token(lets call this skill currency =P) vendors.
A tool?
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
You can't buy tokens from dungeons or reward token, they have their own vendors.
It ain't nothing but a G thang really

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
which is why Ill be buying experience-bonus items and rez-sickness removal items so I can get there faster than the rest. Why? Because they are allowing me to with "time-saving convenience items".
Why waste time when I can just buy my way there. I love this new mmo business model, especially since I have such a great job.
Skills? Came a long time ago during the EQ days when MMOs were actually hard.

My gaming blog
Personally I'll pay to play rather than pay to avoid playing. There again I have no job, hedonism for the win baby!
I think you are mis remembering EQ, it was horendouse grind. Sitting in line in a a room for 27 hours straight (real time) for your jboots was not skill. Mindless grinding for hours on end was not skill. Sitting for 3 minutes looking at a blanked out screen between each fight whilst your mana regened was not skill. Loosing a weeks worth of experience to a ninja shopkeeper who ran 50 metres from completely out of sight to one shot you (repeatedly when you went for your corpse) was not skill (actually it was a borked faction system). I could go on. Sure I would have paid to skip that bollocks but you must of missed the 'paradigm shift memo'.....good game design is about making playing it's own reward. The hamsters have revolted.
Paying $10 for rewards from dungeons you cant beat is not skill.
Redundant question much? What is the point in being "skilled" at any game; and how in anyway does it change when there is nothing of power to gain from being skilled?

the reward of being skilled is that you'll be better at the game. i.e.: you won't get curb stomped every ten seconds.
EDIT: and no one has said anything about potions in the shop. STOP ACTING LIKE EVERY GAME IN THE WORLD IS THE SAME, PEOPLE. ("mass effect? i didn't like the way that civ v was turn based, so i don't like me.")
Oh I wanna philosiphize too!
What is the point to gaming at all? Why do anything"? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
Pay 2 win baby. Why? Because life is meaningless!
Exploration dungeons with unique cosmetic rewards and titles.

Why would you? there is no reason to power level to max. When you enter pvp you are 80 no matter what ur pve level is.
If you want to power level to be the server 1st i guess that hold some braging right but to be honest its the pvp that will bring you braging rights not a meesly dungeon boss.
Thats like saying your respected in eve becouse you run rat missions.
If this i the case I'm fine with that,.
There NEEDS to be cosmetics which are only rewarded for ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME.
^^ Also, armour from the store will likely only be town armour, armour you buy with gold won't look as good as armour you went to a dungeon and won, and while you can pay for this dungeon gear from someone else, it will probably be cheaper than getting it yourself (unless you suck)...

Thats the way it should be. There needs to be incentive for playing the game and not just buying shit from a cash shop.
Its astounding to me how many people here have been screaming about "how GW2 rewards skill" yet they are cool with buying rewards for the hardest content which takes skill to acquire? Wtf is that about?
But if they make the Dungeon gear that requires tokens, non-tradable like other games, then it simply wouldn't matter. Also for Structured PvP the cash-shop will have meaningful no effect on it (execpt maybe that Chalice of Glory that comes with the CE & Deluxe Edition) and that's where true skill will thrive in the game.
I am pretty sure those things are in no way tradeable. That was sort of the point behind them.
@Bilbo again pretty sure the only gear purchasable from the shop is cosmetic, and then through in game gold even if you have a lot of it.. the same lvl as everyone else is wearing.

So naturally the price for the armor will be high.

I dont have a problem with them being tradeable as long as someone has to get them from the Dungeon. What I never wanna see if Hard Mode dungeon rewards purchasable via the cash shop. Thats the epitome of Pay-2-Win. Whether or not the gear has better stats is completely irrelevant and is strawman argument brought up by people who don;t want there to be anything that can't be purchased via the cash shop.
There are no raids in this game. No healers. No tanks. IF you cant finish a dungeon for a gear set its because you lacked the skill to do so and shouldnt get the gear. There are no more excuses for bad players. Play the damned game and beat the content. Stop asking for handouts and work-arounds.
