How is GW2 going to reward those who are the theory crafters/Min-Maxers/Math guys?
There are a lot of people who love to run simulators, spreadsheets, calculations and testing to find out how they are going to eek that last point of damge out of their class.
In WoW, It's done through ability/cast rotations. Talanet builds and ultimately gear.
Now we see that GW2's gear won't really be a lage factor in this, but how else does the game reward these people?
I dont have a problem with them being tradeable as long as someone has to get them from the Dungeon. What I never wanna see if Hard Mode dungeon rewards purchasable via the cash shop. Thats the epitome of Pay-2-Win. Whether or not the gear has better stats is completely irrelevant and is strawman argument brought up by people who don;t want there to be anything that can't be purchased via the cash shop.
There are no raids in this game. No healers. No tanks. IF you cant finish a dungeon for a gear set its because you lacked the skill to do so and shouldnt get the gear. There are no more excuses for bad players. Play the damned game and beat the content. Stop asking for handouts and work-arounds.
*rant wasnt directed at you guy I replied too*
and it wont, they have said many times that it wont be like that... why not rant about those damned Martians bringing up the price of corn in Sri Lanka... its similarily nonsensical =P

Im interested in hearing the answer to this.
I'm HOPING what were gonna get is something like armor sets all have different stats at lvl 80 but they all basically add up to the same amount. There wont be anyway to put together a set of gear which goes over 1000 combined in stats for example.
So Lets say you want a high Strength build. You can put together a custom armorset which give you high strength but is lacking in Endurance. Same thing could be done for resistences. This would allow people to hit a bit harder but be squishier or someone who has high lightning resistence is weak vs fire.
This kind of setup is fantastic for PvP. I'm crossing my fingers we can do something like this.

I shit you not that's how it is, in beta so far that's how it is someone found some wvwvw armor noticed in different ways it's same.
Which is why I keep saying over and over as I laugh, no matter how much money one puts into this game he did not buy himself a pass from getting that ass whoop'd goes for every single aspect in the game lol, ANET made the game that way because it doesn't work like previous MMOs in the actual game itself.
It saves you time for getting [some] of what the game offers.
I answered this thread a long time ago in the first page, tokens are non tradeable maybe I've been blocked, I don't know , but no one will be able to pay to win, because in order to evene remotely experience the game you'll literally have to play unlike most.
We all look at the method and then forget that GW 2 doesn't operate like previous MMOs.
The features will need to be strip, the non tradable rewards/currency will need to be strip, and skill base mechanics, hitbox, and the influence of being gear dependant in order to downgrade skill and in order for p2w to take affect.
Level scaling and gear based on level so you can't even be strong from start, you don't boost your stats, you can't be God, you can't have an in game fighting upper hand, all you get is looks.
I still bet that the skill for deluxe won't be unlocked till level 30.
Only close advatange is extra character slots/golem banker for two days/armband that doesn't increase as you'll get better things/amount of transmution stones/last but not least looks.
That's what we all know so far. All of it's actually been seen and the cash shop is even going to be in beta lol for testing.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

My fear is like this:
City of Heroes was a hugely successful game in early 00s. it was a successful MMO that initially had no gear and everything that affected stats was purchaseable withthe games currency through NPCs.
And there wre builders and simulators and all that stuff to. Stuff to help you max your character. But the game's biggest flaw was lack of endgame.
Level capping meant that for the most part, you were done. People still played on their capped, but that was mostly between alt leveling.
What in GW is going to hold ourr attention day in and day out for months on end?
SWG also had no gear grind. But there, you were always building something permanent.
CoH was a Themepark and SWG was a sandbox, SO Where does GW2 fit in?
The answer to this is deceptively simple: The game doesn't reward those people.
I realise that this might not have been what you wanted to hear, but what it is is both a reasonable and an honest answer. I feel that people who spend all their time slaving over spreadsheets should have their own work as their reward and nothing more. If the game is balanced properly, then the only way theorycrafters will find an advantage then anyway is via exploits, and in that case the reward will be a ban.
Honestly, this game is about spatial awareness, understading your foe, understanding their abilities, understanding the AI, and reacting to the situation. It's about being able to remain on top of things. In WoW you win by numbers. In GW2 you win based on more actual skill - like observational skill, tactical skill, and so on.
Did I interrupt at the right time? - This is a more important question than, say... Can I get slightly better damage from this combination?
This is covered in that one PC Gamer article that talks about dungeons. Not every game is for everyone, and not every game is designed to reward everyone, and not every gamer should feel free to automatic entitlement (see sig). If you don't like it, then it might not be the game for you. But the most likely answer, and the most truthful, the most honest, and the most reasonable is that these people simply won't be rewarded.
In regards to what you do when you hit the level cap, ArenaNet have said many times that the best option is likely going to be to roll a new character, since there's exclusive content for each character. For example, to see all the personal story content from levels 1 to 10, you have to play the game at least 30 times, with 30 new characters.
There will be some exploration content for those that flounder at 80, but it's not their focus.
For months now all we have heard is "GW2 will reward being skilled because you have skills and not because you have better gear!" Now it turns out you will be able to buy Gems with RL money to turn into gold which can be used to buy "cosmetics". Well since gear isnt differentiated by stats, all gear is essentially cosmetic. This means they can sell ANYTHING and claim it doesnt provide advantage to a player.
So if I run a dungeon on the hardest setting in order to get the best gear (cosmetic) from it, that means it took skill to acquire. You have to be a better player to acquire this gear....o do you? If people can just buy the gear that is supposed to take actual "skill" to acquire then how the hell does that reward skill???????!
What is the point of being "skilled" at this game? What reward will it provide other than being skilled for the sake of being skilled?
have you heard of the other two currencies Tokens and Kharma neither of which are tradable neither are bought from the store and their rewards are unique separate from the items in the store.

I have now. And now that I know you wont be able to use real money to buy that stuff I'm 100% fine with the MT model (as long as it stays the same and they dont change it so you can buy dungeon tokens or the gesar from it with RL cash)
Also that one guys reply to me earlier about how you can mix and match gear to come out with something high in STR but poor in another stat is exactly what I was hoping for. GW2 just keeps sounding better and better.
which is why Ill be buying experience-bonus items and rez-sickness removal items so I can get there faster than the rest. Why? Because they are allowing me to with "time-saving convenience items".
You're scaled down when you enter a dungeon below your level and there is no rez sickness.

TOKENS are a non-tradable reward received by doing Dungeons. It is used to buy weapons and armor from dungeon vendors.

Thanks.
It's not the answer I wanted, however, GW2 is still on my "To-Do" list.
