In the latest Star Wars: The Old Republic Developer Dispatch, the team details the Legacy System that will show up when v1.2 arrives on all servers in April.

This groundbreaking system is totally unique and worth the time to explore. Enjoy!

Nice in-depth reveal. Looks good to me.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Looks good with one exception. a smuggler using force choke... giving unique class abilities to other classes makes that class a whole lot less unique. Hate it when games do that type of thing.

It looks okay...nothing incredible.  I don't know if I would call the system 'groundbreaking' yet - as basically it mixes other class skills into story mode and allows you to mix races and classes..

Way to go Bioware, for pushing the roll an alt as content, and not really fixing the true problems that the game has. How about pull the training wheels off and let players get off your predefined railed path. How about add in tools and systems that create player interdependency amongst the community and really have something to do outside of combat. How about letting players really have open world pvp and knock down all the instances and barriers that seperate the 2 factions from each other. Man, i could go on forever about how to add things into this game that would turn it  into an actuall mmorpg, but since Bioware are the masters of the gaming world, they will continue to push out minimal things that will keep this title a SPRPG with coop features.

According to Bioware, everything they did in SWTOR is "groundbreaking." I mean, the mindless cooldown monitoring of the combat system is enough to make me pass out from boredom, thus causing the "ground" to "break" upon impact of my fat butt.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

I question the MMORPG expierence of the game designers and if this game is actually being made by Bioware or not just a bunch of EA employees using the Bioware name. Maybe the just used the writters at Bioware...there is so much derp in this games design when it comes to MMOs it isnt even funny let alone the RPG derp.

Bioware ceased to exist in everything but name ages ago. It is EA through and through. Once EA  have used up any goodwill left in the BW name they will dump it.

In a year i think this game could actually be quite amazing.  I'll prolly end up returning to it one day.

I've never heard terms like 'groundbreaking' 'innovative' and 'unique' used more then by the mmorpg writers and the ToR developers -

I'm going to ruin the party here - all I really see out of this is the ability to be a darkside race as a light side class and vice versa.  The races in ToR are totally lame - basically human skins dyed blue, human skins dyed red, human skins really pale and human skins with tenticles.

The ONLY way I could see this 'groundbreaking' system appealing to you is if you are a HARDCORE roleplayer and have been dyeing to roleplay a red skinned smuggler, if that's you then more power to you.  When this system was first announced I was thinking maybe wookie or ewok or any number of the races you constantly see throughout the star wars universe.  Very underwhelming in my opinion.  Nothing most other games don't alreay do allowing any race/class combination, the only difference here is you have to grind to earn it.

Oh - and the ability to use force abilities on non-force classes 'during story mode'...

the legacy system sounds more better (yeah, more better)

i might get 1 month sub after this is implemented to check it out myself. It really is a big improvement over the current state

Still not fond of the whole skill purchase, but at least it makes more sense now that they've explained the reason behind it.

  • RyukanRyukan Member UncommonPosts: 858

I cn't shake the sense that a good deal of the legacy system feels like fluff material. There's some decent stuff buried in there but the Heroic skills don't really do that much for me and neither do the species unlocks since races in SWTOR are purely cosmetic.

I really really really wish the Legacy name and such did not carry over to the other faction, I would really like to keep my Empire side Legacy seperate from my Republic side Legacy but I doubt that will ever happen...at least, I don't recall hearing anything from BW regarding that.

I'll just have to take what I can get and hope there is some stuff in the Legacy system that is meaningful.

I am done! That is the lamest shit I ever seen.... Sith Pureblood smuggler/jedi???? and a Agent that can force choke????? Just canceled.

Oh look, another TOR puff piece here at mmorpg.com. What a surprise....

Gee I wonder how that could happen...

  • MargraveMargrave Member RarePosts: 1,371

I'm disappointed in the legacy system personally....

    I had hoped for more.

This is just a bad joke? Right? An early april fool?

Please tell me this isn't true and isn't going live like this?

The Heroic skills are one element of the Legacy system that are a real letdown for me. Instead of giving us heroic/unique and/or iconic skills that fit the individual classes they are just rehashing existing skills from other classes. It's not even new or original content. I'm personally not going to bother getting any Heroic skills unless they fit the class and/or have any connection beyond solo play.

Explain to me how allowing an agent access to force choke isn't unbalancing. 1.2 may be the patch, usually it takes an expansion, that runs me off.

All aboard the QQ train, for a system they literally are just about to release it seems like most of you were expecting something HUGE. They set the framework of the system down, its there, and the future patches should build upon those things. I have realistic expectations and I knew what to expect from the patch that implements legacy, plus its not like this is at all shocking news, the legacy info leak has been out for weeks now. In addition, those heroic skills have like a 30 minute cooldown or something of the like, hardly game breaking. I will probably sub for the month 1.2 comes out, and if nothing new comes within a month, I'll do what normal humans do and unsub and wait for another patch. I honestly hope that MMORPG keeps doing these SWTOR pieces just because it clearly aggravates a vocal majority on this site. It's pretty great.

You really don't understand do you?

Who the frag cares about how long a cooldown those epic abilities have.

The point is that they give NON-Force users access to FORCE powers!  Totally and utterly retarded!!

How the heck did Lucas Arts approve this abomination is beyond me!! /shrug

This whole game is slowly turning into one big joke!  It has nothing at all to do with Star Wars anymore.

With all the resources they have... is it really that hard for them to stick to the Star Wars Lore? Is it really that hard for them to come up with "REAL" unique epic abilities for each class that actually "FITS" the class?

The idea behind it is that you had to have leveled a force user to level 50 and complete the class quest to unlock the ability.

Abonination? The Force being part of a family heritage has been in every Star Wars movie. Your father was a Sith Warrior and you're a smuggler.  You think that you have absolutely no connection to the Force at all?  Or, was your family so powerful in the force (i.e. level 50 hand of the emperor) that you can reach out with your rage once every 20 minutes to force choke one guy?

Not to mention the balance is going to make them more fluff than use.  20 minute cooldown that's based on your Heroic Moment ability which requires you companion out and alive.  It's not going to be useful for PvP or blowing through content quickly.  It's a 20 minute RP/fluff ability with some marginal usefulness.
