Actually, this legacy system reminds me of an evolved form of the champion level abilities in DAoC at least if we're talking about mixing and matching other class abilities. This is really not such a bad thing in itself : more customization and more player choice in how they tweek their characters, even if it is just for appearances, is never negative in my view. Sure there might be other pressing matters BW should work on before that, but the legacy system is definitely not a bad addition to the game.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

I`m excited they are excited about the exciting new features... COME ON.

This is like pure marketing talk...

Races mean nothing except pure roleplay thing ,they have no racial abilities...

Also if they allow sith purebloods to be jedi knights... i would lol a bit.

They overhyped this game so much, i mean the leveling up is decent enough and the story is okish(i played a few classes and went with a mate to see the storyline of 2 more while he did them)  unless you play a trooper(worst story by far in my opinion)

I know they said EA forced them to release early and stuff but still, that`s no excuse in my book, just more marketing talk...(blame EA everyone already hates them anyway)

Still, now that everyone sells his account very cheap and some people even sell new cd keys for like 20 euros it`s worth picking it up and playing a bit for the leveling experience(that is the only good part imo)

So get it if it`s cheap or wait for sales... it should get cheaper since i`ve seen a lot of people quit.(but new ones might join too since it`s Star Wars)

Hm... weird... must be playing a different game... or why did Imp players managed to kill me a couple of times in contested territories on different planets while I was trying to complete a quest or just exploring - just as I killed some Imp players who were doing the same?

Yeah Musicman, please do go on forever, because apparently you like to show everybody that SWTOR is not the game YOU wanted it to be and therefore it can't be the type of game that it 'claims' to be... *rolls eyes*

As to the Legacy system: nice enough... will offer a quite number of different options... and yes, it may take the 'unique' out of some of the character classes... but anybody who has seen the original trilogy knows how much things from one character may potentially also be find in a related other character ;-)

This dead horse again? Yeah that would be because you can use high-res textures in 1.2.

Riiight!!. The game i wanted it to be was the one that Bioware said it was and then delivered something else. I make no bones about how disappointed i am in TOR. I also have told everyone here that you can go back and look at my posting history and see, while i was excited, i was no fanboi or hater of TOR.

I can go back and pull up interviews with Bioware devs, some that worked on the origional SWG that said, they know what Sandbox and themepark is, and TOR would fall somewhere in the middle. They also kept pushing that TOR is a real mmorpg and the worlds are huge and a player could just wonder off in any direction and explore to their hearts content. They also said that companions were not pets and TOR also was setup for many different playing styles as well as players who loves crafting and dedicated themselves could sell the best items in the game.

Well, let's see how the game actually turned out. The game has zero sandbox, in fact it's a more on rails game than any other so called mmo that has ever been released. Can we say SPRPG wit coop features. The worlds are all instanced off and have exhaustion zones and there's not a single area that is not tied to a quest for being there. I guess having around 7 to 10 players on the same planet is really a wide open game world. It's also worth note that from level 1 to 50, i seen a total of 5 or 6 different faction players. Let's talk about trying to do anything solo without a companion. You can't because without them being called you die and die quickly. well, that throws being able to play the game like you want to. The last thing that they misled people was the dedicated crafters crafting the best stuff in-game. We all know that is a lie and the so called best stuff is from running operations and doing daily pvp.

So yea, call me what you want, but the truth is the truth. Sorry if it hurts. The game does not do The SW IP justice and actually hurts the mmorpg genre.

you're right! how dare they have mmo news on the biggest patch of tor so far! i mean, what do they think this is? an mmo site? pfft.

they should do more stories about what's happening with pong.

edit: cuz pong is oldskool and oldskool means yer kewl.

    And your point is?

Pong was at least "innovative" and "groundbreaking" at its time, TOR is clearly not.

There is ANOTHER article on TOR at mmorpg.com today.

They are sure pushing this game hard... anyone wonder why?

Loosen the tin-foil hat, buddy. There are people other than yourself who enjoy the game and are interested in seeing what is upcoming.

I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

    Legacy System:

Bringing some of the awesome from Sith to Republic, one level 50 at a time. ;)

I couldn't help but notice not a single thing they said wasn't geared toward: "These awesome Sith abilities/races being usable on the Republic side!"

Its just you. The class race bonuses the Legacy system offer's is nothing like "other games offer"

Maybe if Trolls could Stoneform out of effects at some point like Dwarves could then sure id say you are right but the class racials/talents like Force Choke can be conpared to say gnomes ability Escape Artist all of a sudden due to some achievement being open to Tauren players on that same account.

If you pause the video at 4:57 when the Legacy menu thing is open you can see on the top "Coming in 1.3!" Maybe some of the Legacy stuff they showed will not be released this next patch or maybe they made an error.

You are correct, some of the legacy features are not being shipped until 1.3, those include more things related to making levelling an alt easier such as mounts at level 1.

Thanks :) i thought i misread a patch note or something lol.

We'll see if the blitzkrieg of articles, features and "news" will continue... especially after the end of the month when the quarter closes for EA/BW. There have been at least 3-4 "bits" on this site each and every week since launch and before even, sometimes twice that, or more. And virtually all of them very positive. Many which were "exclusive", i.e came directly from EA/BW.

I wonder what the quid pro quo for "exclusive" bits from EA is? More articles? More features? More "back scratching"? Keep the hype machine running?

That ain't toil foil hat stuff, that is how the industry works.

Feel free to search the articles to check my math.

Trashing SW lore in the name of gimmicks and "toys" is not innovation, it's cannibalization.

    In short:

    1. Reusing existing assets without adding much more to the game

    2. Huge money or time sinks

    3. Bending the lore

    4. Blurring the frontier between classes

    5. Forcing alts to be linked one to the other

    6. Adding stuff in a useless location

Almost nothing in the legacy features is new. We can pretty much have all of this in a way or another.

Now I ask this question: in what way do you think a player that already has a caped specie will look forward rolling an alt with the same exact specie?

That lead us to the money sinks. Players won't reroll to the same specie so they'll end grinding credits to unlock the species.

Also it tells a lot about your existing player base. You are punishing players who already rolled alts when the new species/classes combos weren't available. IMHO you should allow one specie respec for all existing alts.

Putting the mosts iconic skills in the hands of others classes removes the epicness of these classes. It's also bending the lore.

I don't see Dark Maul nor Vader nor Palpatine nor Yoda, etc... using a flame thrower nor sticky grenades. I don't see either Han force choking someone and even less lightning Greedo.

It does not feel that epic. It feels like butchering the lore.

Rocket boost: none characters but the BH uses a jetpack. It makes no sense at all to have robe equipped characters rocket move somewhere.

Allies, child, spouse, adoptive child, rival, sibling: what do you not understand in players don't want all their alts to be tied one to the other by any link but being played by the same human being?

Did you not get the note saying players just want a separate last name?

Moving to our space ship is plagued with loading screens. So why adding more stuff in it if you don't, first, make the travelling experience more convenient? Why not letting players to recall to their space ships then?

To me the legacy system the way you implemented it is a half backed system.

It's easy to criticize so here's some suggestions, in no specific order. All going through unlocks:

    1. You are now able to send/receive emails directly to your datapad, as long as you have a direct link to your space ship or a planet's holocom system. Different planets/location might hinder your reception power adding latency/delay to the email delivery.

    2. Your friendly companions will now gladly sell anything to the vendor.

    3. Your companions are now willing to carry items between your location and your space ship storage

    4. As premium member your datapad has now a very high end encrypted chip allowing you to browse the GTN network from anywhere (see#1)

    5. Due to your high rank you have now access to the VIP SW UPS postal service picking up and delivering items directly to your space ship

    6. There's such a mutual trust between you and your companion that they're now able to post items on the GTN.

    7. You can now recall directly to your space ship

    8. You unlocked a specific piece in your space ship: secret compartment for smugglers, armory for troopers, torture chamber for Sith, etc...

    9. On very rare occasion you are able to group with 2 companions of yours

    10. You can now equip companions with roles allowing you to choose whether they tank/heal/dps

    11. You can lend a companion of one of your alts to another character. *Will just fit the combat skill, not the story part.

    12. You can now customize further your companions body features separately.

    13. You can add and display a companion nickname to your companions

    14. You can now enjoy a silent mode on all companions.

    15. Wardrobes: you can now preset gear sets and switch them at once between your characters

    16. New identity: You can one time change your character name

    17. One time change your character sex

    18. You can totally redo your character body features

    19. You can one time change your character specie

    20. Secret stash: your characters shares a secret stashing location

    21. Shared bank account: all your participating characters shares the same bank account (for a fee).

    22. Armored speeders: your speeder can now take a few hits before being destroyed

    23. Shielded speeders: your speeders can now take severe hits before being destroyed

    24. Dual seat speeders: your companions rides with you

    25. You (or your companion) can do other tasks while one of you is fighting (Ex gathering nodes

    26. Dual/multi speccing: your expertise makes it so your able to switch between multiple templates roles as needed

    27. AC to AC respec: A traumatic experience let you change your behavior in battle.

    28. Halos/glowing: You are so attuned with the force that you're able to display a halo of light(white/yellow) or power(red) around you from time to time. For non force users == shields generators.

    29. You discovered the secrets of [insert specie] and are able to either make any classes alt with this specie or have your soul matrix reinserted into this specie.

    30. You have now an enhanced radar allowing you to display friendlies on the minimap

    31. Your radar has been further enhanced to display non friendly foes on the minimap.

    32. Once per day you can now recall to any unlocked location on any planet

George Lucas has been at that since the 1970s.

Actually Bioware have a good thing with the legacy system. Makes having alt and playing the different class stories worthwhile beyond whatever your main character happens to be/ have done.
