Are you kidding me?!! who would trust their problems with someone with power?? someone who is vulnerable, like that guy. And the fact that he didn't gave his name does not matter because other players wont find him by his real name, and the last thing a guy who is thinking about suicide needs is a ton of emails from other assholes telling him to kill himself....

Ah and you share your private problems with other players or what?  He can delete that character and  create new one :===). Now we have even real whiners in game, what is next? They will sue me for emotional abuse of some emo kid because i didnt shoot his ship softly and tenderly

The goon guy 'mittens' or whatever his name is looks pretty emo to me...nice hat...lolz

Gamers conferences are not a place to discuss someones depression or suicide issues even if the conversation took place in game.  He knew what he was doing, goons have a reputation for this sort of stuff.

No sane people don't share their private problems with other players.  Suicidal people do.  That's the point.

More to the point is that this guy is the head representation of the playerbase for EVE.  That means it's a PR position.  He can say what he wants, but if he's banned or w/e he deserves it.  This type of action will not encourage new players at all and damages EVE and the CCP brand if they do nothing.  He brought this on himself by going too far with his comments.

CCP needs to protect their brand and future investments.

They gave a couple of guys 4 years for inciting a riot on facebook, they didn't even go to the riot themselves, if they had they would have only got 2 years. Arrested some guy for racial abuse on facebook recently too and there's a lot of pressure here for tougher sentances on the RIP trolling where they're currently prosecuting a few. That's with all the activity online, this was irl , it seems they're looking to make a few headline cases and I reckon they'd cream if this had happened here.

Not to say this, but do you realize how fucked CCP might be if this guy did shoot himself? There literally was just a presecedent set for this kind of crap with the guy who threw himself of the bridge. God forbid CNN or someone else pick this up.

Do you not understand the difference between the mind state of a person who wants to commit suicide and someone who doesn't? Suicide is not something to joke with or joke at, get your facts straight and think a bit before you speak.

The difference here is that this guy is actually encouraging the suicidal person to kill himself.  Which is much worse in my opinion.

Well, thats  completely wrong. Eve comunity is awesome and you have there one of the best help channel in mmo world. You find always somone to help you and to give you answer on your questions. To say that about ccp is false and rude from you, this guys are always with us and you should show me game where you can talk in help channel with game developers like we do in eve. And people get banned for any kind of harassment that is not related with game, like race, religion, crimes exct

I have found the EvE community both kind and helpful and devious and ruthless, however Mittani was not playing the game, he asked people on a public platform to harass a man into suicide, this is beyond EvE.

We the players of these types of games are the very worst of our respective countries.  Myself for example, I make less than $200,000 a year which is terrible and stay inside playing MMO's way more than a normal adult in society.  I will never be invited to the Playboy Mansion to mingle with beautiful women nor will I be accepted by the mainstream.

Suicide is just one of many problems we have on a long, long list of issues we must face while playing.

...and people wonder why other's won't touch EVE with a ten foot pole.  This kind of stuff is exactly what I'd expect from their community.

I'd have a good laugh if he was banned and sued.

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

give a man a shotgun and he wil shoot.

give a man a microphone and he will speak.

whoever gave him chance to speak is the one to blame.

.......and that would be why if the victim did commit suicide Alex and CCP are both fucked at this point. There's a clear line between gaming and real life.  Even if the victim didn't commit suicide both parties may be fucked anyway.

Think skull rule hmm or knowing someone is unbalanced and getting others to harass said individual there is a tort there somewhere. I would not put it past a lawyer to sue.

Don't think so. It is not real name, it is just game character. Maybe even alt made by Mittani

Letting any of the SA goons speak publicly at an event is the equivilant of begging to be kicked between your legs.

I also agree with this..I mean c'mon - Goons have a reputation from various games as absolute dbags...why would CCP give them this position...?

CCP didnt he was elected by the player community.

Sadly, the way things are moving in Eve, it is only a matter of time before someone takes his frustrations out in the real world.  Since Mittani's real name and country/state are made available on the Eve website, I would not be surprised if sometime in the next few years there is a story of someone coming to his house and beating him down.  The GOON thing is being pushed way too far and its only getting worse each year.

Actually its a good example of why one should always vote when then can.  Unfortuately I'm guessing that fewer than 5% of the EVE population bothers to vote on these elections so its very easy for Goonswarm to ask all their members to turn out and sway elections in their favor.

Come to think of it, this is common in real life, where the elderly population's viewpoint is over represented because they come out to vote in much larger numbers than young folks.

He used a public platform to call on people to harass a suicidal man into death, not really sure how that can be successfully justified.

I was wonder why there's not enough nice guys out there with enough clout in the game to form their own alliance and specifically target Goons to anhilate them out of existence?  More importantly destroy everything this loser has in game?

It's all fun and games until mainstream media picks the story up. It won't matter at that point if it's fake or real, if the guy is alive or dead.  CCP will be screwed.    The U.S. and parts of the E.U. are both cracking down on cyber-bullying. There's a clear line between gaming and real life and it's definitely been crossed at this point.
