Matrix Online = Name recognition worse than SWG.

Before I start I would like to say that there are some good things about Matrix online. The fact that it does have crafting, you can also be a "caster" or a "pet user".
You can also inter-change the "Class" you want to play at any time. So if you want to be Kung-fu guy and then be hacker guy you can simply unload the Kung-Fu codes and load up the hacker codes and go back to work.
Major down side to Matrix online is the combat system. It is about as close to turn based combat as it gets.

This is a link to thier training vids, see for yourself. The speed of combat is so much slower than the movies would lead you to believe.
The newest thing is that they want you to pay $15 a month, which is fairly standard, AND they want to run in game ads for other WB promotions. There is also talk of magazines from other companies. Now this in and of itself isnt so bad, especially in the matrix which is supposed to be like the current real world, but that they are charging you AND making money from ads. The ads obviously use resources so this adds to the lag in the game, which is substantial by thier minimum standards and I have heard others who are not so minimum complain of lag. Now I dont mind ads in this kind of game but I darn sure dont want to pay full price to see them.
Anyways, this is just my 2 cents worth, the game rates about a 6 out of 10 at most.

Yeah I kind of forgot where billboards ruin your game experience. I need to take another crash course on gaming. Not to mention most are amusing.
I don't know what else to say to this post other than the fact its on the wrong board and is merely here to try and slander an otherwise good game. Nice try though. I suppose EQ2 sucks too because it has a deal with pizza hut? Nothing wrong with it.

As it stands name recognition is about the only thing driving the game, in my oppinion. It seems to be a popular oppinion since the guy at the local EB store said they had 6 pre-order cancles in the last week,
And actually there are no in game ads for Pizza hut, simply an in game /pizza command which takes you into windowed mode so you can order a pizza online if its available in your areea. A Far cry from what MXO is doing.
As I did say, I dont have a problem with the ads but we should not have to pay full price to SEE those ads.

It's obviously slander, or you'd post it on the Matrix Online boards, not the General boards. You want a wider audience so you can make a critical claim against the game in regards to advertisement.
You don't speak positively about it by saying you can craft or use a pet.. Thats kind of formulaic and a given for most MMOs.
The title itself draws comparison to SWG. Thats not usually a positive note.
I agree that advertisement should be used to lower the subscription costs, but since it won't you can simply expect more out of the development team. They have a lot more capital to work with if they are using advertisements, as well as being backed by WB in general. So you should expect a lot more in their updates to the game, and service overall.
It'd only be if these expectations were not met that I would see it justifiable to complain about the advertisements.

However, when it comes to ads I don't see why you claim it would add to lag by the use of resources. Odds are that you'll download the ads as part of a patch or update and it would load straight off of your drive like the rest of the game does. Could they have the ads sent down the pipe as required by the game when you get near it, sure, but realistically that ad would be a small file size and wouldn't take any longer to load than an image of a comparable file size on a website.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

Kjarl comes on here and rationally posts his opninion about the game and you acuse him of slander at the same time as saying the Mods on this board are not doing their job properly for not moving this thread.
You need to realise that another persons opinion of a game does not invalidate yours or anyone elses. You do not need to leap to the defence of MxO everytime someone makes a post that says something other than MxO is the greatest game of all time.
If it really bothers you so much just go read through the fanboy thread you organised in the MxO area over and over again, then you wont have to be challenged by the fact that some people on this planet decide to exercise their free will and express an alternative opinion.

The ads are simply billboards and lil magazine props on the floors or tables and stuff nothing that makes any difference performance wise.

Wow, have you ever said ANYTHING bad about this game Sygmas? I'm not an expert on this game, i played half an hour of beta and it's not exactly "perfect". But you defend every little thing about the game. If you say at least one thing that's bad about the game, then I will leave you alone from the MxO threads, and reward you with a gold star.
Nah, they're right, you're being an uptight fanboy :P. I've been playing MxO off and on since I got into the closed beta and I can definately say people are not gonna get their money's worth out of it. I mean at first when you get into it you'll have a sense of accomplishment when going through missions, and the in game dueling is SKILL based.
Unfortunately, the game has pretty much gone no where in the last five months, in fact I've seen some new bugs arrise in that time. If MxO had a team that was as dedicated as the EQII team, or the WoW team, or hell even the AO team which really aren't that dedicated at all, I'd say MxO would be a force to be reckoned with, but at this time, it is not.
That being said MxO is still in beta, and still has a couple months left to fix it's major content problems, and bug problems. Do I think they'll be able to fix it in time? Nope.

Really wasnt trying to start a Flame war. One reason I didnt know there WAS a MxO board is that I dont use them for just this reason. People state an oppinion and instead of causing debate it starts a darn flame war.
I do not use these boards much and didnt know there WAS an MxO board or I would have posted there,
If there is a way to move the thread please do so or tell me how.

I disliked the Matrix because of its mediocore movement controls. I also found content to be lacking, many quests I had involved running around drab looking ratholes with the same inside layouts repeatedly. After playing many polished MMORPG's such as DAoC, WoW, EQ2, Lineage 2, Ragnarok Online, Ultima Online, Uru Ages of Myst, City of Heroes, etc. etc., the world of the Matrix feels more like a half baked simulacrum of a low budget german/european game than it does an immersive high thrill virtual city. And I played at highest settings with a high framerate. What really looked aesthetically ugly the most was the way many of the world models stuttered, like cars going around a corner. Leveling also didn't seem to be guided or natural. It had more of an organic random find things on your own kind of mentallity going on, which just doesnt fit my own time constricted playstyle.
Anyways, it was a fantastic attempt by the developers, but I feel release may have an initial boom, but their servers will soon be as empty as Horizon's...
Im sitting here right now watching the West Wing on Bravo channel. I just saw sitting to the side of someones desk a small bag of Gold Fish. Ya know the snack that smiles back gold fish? Product placement. Its almost everywhere and it makes sense to add these, where appropriate, to online games.
The Matrix online is the perfect place for current real world ads. More than any other game that came before it this game has the audiance in place with the genre that all comes together to have Coke on a billboard. Or the Wall Street Journal in the new paper boxes or real world Magazines in the news stands.
But ya know what, I dont have to pay anything extra to see the West Wing with its product placements. I pay for my basic service (which is cheaper than my cable internet) and I get to watch 150 different channels.
For MxO I would have to pay 55$ a month for my cable internet, and an Extra 15$ a month to play MxO. Now they want me to pay that 15$ a month AND fill the ingame billboards and such with ads. Well I dont think thats really going to go over very well. Now if they wanted to do that and drop the price to say, 4.99$ a month or once they have the bugs worked out and more content in maybe 9.99$ a month.
This is my 7th beta so I know bugs and lag are part of it and hopefully it will be resolved by launch in 5-6 weeks. (Unlike ShadowBane which still had the same issues 2 months after launch).
Now maybe its not such a bad thing, I mean its only a matter of what, 5$ that Im talking about. But if people blindly accept everything then it only gets worse not better. If people dont make noise about the ads now where will it stop?
Will we next be paying 20$ a month, 30$ a month? As Morpheous said, some people are so dependant on the system they will fight to protect it.
Now how does this relate to name recognition? well if you havent figured that out then nothing else I could say would explain it.

I agree with Hyoukan, your post is fine where it is. If you post any negative comments about a game in some of the game specific forums, i belive you'll be met with 'why are you even here if u don't like the game?!?'

Kjarl, just ignore sygmas... He never listen to any kind of reason, just grind on and on about how what a big fan he is, and how the rest of the world is wrong.
In six months, we will see Sygmas screaming "almighty goodness!" about the next game he fancy, and anyone mentioning Matrix Online to him will have to hear five billion excuses why he is not playing it anymore... ("My mouse broke")

sigh, you fing nub. learn about the game before you start to post inaccurate infromation. plus this game is nothing like SWG. and all of you are idiots if you think the MXO team isnt even trying, ive been betaing again since stress test (again i was in closed beta) and it is much better, with updates literally almost every day.

Sygmas is clearly attempting to take some credit for that thread with his response. All I am doing is giving him the credit he deserves. It was an organised thread, he admits it, whats the issue ?
I have not even bothered to point out the fact that the overwhelming majority of posts by beta testers regarding MxO are negative and they did not have to be organised to post them. Makes you wonder doesnt it ?
I guess not.... that would involve thinking for yourself and why bother to do that when Sygmas can do it for you

argh. now im just angry. first of all, most of the negative posts ive even seen have been from before stress test. GG plus, im pretty sure sygmas never wanted credit for it, you just shoved it in his face. PLUS I already told you that RFZ organized it in that exact thread.
i really do wish people who played pre stress test shut up, becuase they inform people like razorback wrong information. plus, just cause i cant read/type/write doesnt mean my point doesnt get across, dont make me get violent.
I know that the world of adults can be both frustrating and challenging Jackman. Making the transition from the home where Mom agrees with everything you say, to communicating with other adults who may disagree with you can cause emotions that are hard to control.
As you mature you will learn that other people have opninions that differ from yours. There is an old saying. "We find comfort in those that agree with us and growth in those that dont". I suggest that you consider whether you are looking for comfort or growth.

It's about both SWG and MxO. Being cross-game in content, I'd say it fits better here.
Kjarl has a good point when it comes to ad placement vs monthly cost. If MxO is making money on the side by selling advertisements, it's wholly appropriate to drop the price because that money offsets the cost of monthly maintenance. But, if MxO wants to run their game this way, it's most certainly their free choice. They won't see any of my money, however.
I think ads make total sense in MxO, but I'd like to see them benefit the game more (ie dropping the cost) if implemented.
As for the SWG comparison, I think MxO will be a bit more polished on release and may have a tighter system. I don't think it will hold up to the cinematic world of The Matrix, just like SWG didn't really match the movies that well. Already, the city atmosphere in MxO is lacking. The cityscape is well-designed, but it doesn't feel alive.

I cant help wondering what sort of Ads would appear in EQ2 lol. I bet there is at least one person at SOE saying "damnit whey did we have to create a world where we cant make an ad for coke seem in context"

I was saying they were organized to post not that I organized them, Sundog did and I mentioned their opinions werent fake because I know most of them in beta and those who posted in a positive light feel that truthfully as I've read their posts on our home boards.
