Well when one of those other IPs becomes a dominant part of popular culture they will get their MMOs. On the other hand, SW fans just get fucked so I'm not sure there is any advantage there. Good for you with your awesome iron will and ability to move on. I like your stance: This is all unimportant so I'm gonna weigh in with you whiners. Spoiled brats, damn right. We should not complain, we should know our place and accept what is made, we have no say in the matter. Stupid customers.
As much as i agree with customers right to complain and demand for better this is the worst place to do so. I seriously doubt that anyone here thinks that whtever complaints they write here are really recahing Bioware or other companies. lets be honest here please, the only purpose of these forums is pvp and venting out and feeling better.
I used to think that no one could be naive enough to think that a dev would read the vile that is spewed here and change their game. But now I think some of them actually believe that. No one could possibly gripe about a game this long just to feel better.
well it's not capitol hill, but who cares. There is a community here, this is a typical topic. If you invalidate the original activity, you are also invalidating the counteractivity. Why waste your time with people who are so overly maudlin. Is there some reason to be involved with these arguments in the first place if they are simply the rantings of the emotionally weak? If your answer is because you are bored then we have something in common.
You are 100% right. I knew Swtor was for me when very early on with my Bounty Hunter I was given a quest by this MOM to rescue her kid from the kids Dad who took the kid because the mom was going to send him off to be a Sith and the chances of the kid dieing were good. Well being a rotten Bounty Hunter I took the quest and when i caught up to the Dad and kid I shot down the dad dead even though he begged me to spare him cause he did not want to see his kid die in the Sith pits. The Kid started crying over his dads dead body and I told the kid to go back to his mom and he would thank me some day. WOW what great story telling and roll play goodness-I was hooked after that
Did youseriously just use the 3rd starter quest as your example of how good or bad this game is on story? Really? You get through that quest in under 10 minutes of TOTAL game play. Is that all you played before you judged it? Really??
[mod edit] Personally my favorite on HUTTA was delivering a bounties head to a widow. That was just sick.
No it's the truth as seen by the posters on this forum that spent all that time whining about TOR yet still bought it.
This is a product that is under an NDA until near release, long after the pre-order is set up and open to the public. Most consumers must rely on the information being allowed to be made available by the company. In ANY OTHER FIELD this would be false advertising and misleading the public.
Did we know this was not going to be SWG2? YES
Did we know this was going to be a themepark game? YES
Did we know that the game was focused on story? YES
Did we know there would be no day/night cycles? YES
Did we know there was no swimming? YES
I could go on. The only thing you could really say was misleading was the HI RES issues. If you want your money back over that then be my guest. There was even time before release to try the game and if you didn't like it to cancel your pre-order. Yet for some stupid reason the people that complained non stop on this board about how TOR was not SWG or not this or not that, STILL bought the game. THOSE are the people I am referring to. Of course there's going to be people who had no false hopes about the game not like it. But that doesn't mean they were burned or conned as you and others like you try to imply.
And the second WORST thing about it...its the only field where there are consumers DEFENDING the practice and trying to shut down anyone that speaks out...THE worst thing about it, is that the people they are shutting down...are people wanting the product IMPROVED!
DERP!!!.......
Am I misreading that or are you blaming players? Just like you have the right to complain they have a right to say it's fine. It's up to the devs to decide who is right. I was there during the devlopment of STO and my ideas about what the game should have were shot down continuely on the official boards. As it turns out, I was right and the game was panned by both critics and gamers. That is just something you have to deal with as long as you take part in community activities.
First refute: This isnt a question of whats the best tasting food, this is a question of an opinion not being based on FACTs and that kind of opinion is WRONG. Just one of a great many people that dont know the difference between PERSONAL truths and UNIVERSAL truths. One is for opinion, the other is the truth even if you dont believe it is.
Second refute: Your argument is based on the opinion that the game could have only been 1 of 2 things, which is a logical fallacy. I can dislike something even IF I didnt think it was going to be SWG2, themepark and story driven...derp!
Third refute: You defeated your own point by defending someone thats telling people not to complain by stating its up to the devs to decide...which they wouldnt be able to unless people VOICE THEIR COMPLAINTS.
Congrats, you managed to do nothing with your post.

The funniest thing is that, you can see these type of threads and posts on the official forums that Bioware devs do read. I guess those that still pay and play and can still post are just spreading hatred and vile about the game, right. So, if you're not a Bio-sheep and eat up everything they feed you, then you are a troll and any really good ideas on how to help and add more depth to TOR be brushed off and discarded as nonsense.
Let me add to this. I never seen some people that are so afraid of more choice. If someone told you that everday you had to eat at a particular eatery and the only thing on the menu you could order was bread and water, compared to making your own choice of when to eat and where to eat and you can choose any item on the menu. Which one sounds better to you.
What i'm trying to convey is that Bioware had the resources to make a mmorpg that could give players many choices within a open virtual game world that could have had their brand of story sprinkled in throughout. What they did instead, was make a game, in which basically tell's you how they want you to play, which in turn, leaves players with very few choices. In my opinion, just not a very smart way to make an mmorpg.
Thats like rewarding PvP gear to people that stand around town emoting in mass!
its 100% unadulterated DERP!
Um...it's called FLEETS and there are vast amounts of people using them. I was just responding to the SWG fanboy that thinks just because there aren't crowds of nerds standing around a cantina that TOR is dead.
How can that be if people just do their quests and log off...
Are you sure mmos are for you? You seem like you would be happier in a srpg and leave your socialising to the social websites
No thanks, I'll stick with the game I'm currently playing. You of course might be happier in any of the many MMOs currently available.
You are correct in that sense. Hopefully a new start wars mmo is in the works
Currently playing- SWG PreCU & GW 2 Have tried WoW, AoC, & Vanguard, SWG:NGE, GW, LOTRO & SWTOR Best MMO: SWG Worst MMO: SWTOR
The funniest thing is that, you can see these type of threads and posts on the official forums that Bioware devs do read.
According to some here, Bioware sweeps negativity under the rug. So much for that conspiracy.

Not even close to what I was saying but whatever helps you sleep at night.
Kind of expounding on the "Fourth Pillar", I cant help but point out the real line between happy subscribers and unhappy unsubscribers is play style.
I've said it before, big title mmorpg's brought many new players into the fold, gone are the days of the close knit, die hard "yes M'lady" crowd from rpg games like EQ.
The reoccuring theme with the bulk of unhappy ex players is the way they typically play the game, (a quick caviot) I don't mean every single person fits this mold so use common sense at will.
You hear it time and again, people play a little of the starter worlds quests, they pee vee pee non stop, the planet quests turn grey, they jam through the personal story and hit 50 in a week or two.
The same people will tell you how much they hate the planets and the linear quests and so on, open world pvp is all that matters ect. even though most of them haven't seen anymore of the individual worlds outside of the flight paths to the class quests they jammed through.
It's the way I and many others played Warcraft, rip through the levels, get to endgame so you can farm gear in the arena or raids, and then quit because you are bored.
I am utterly content to play my character, fly to a planet and entrench myself in the content, levels happen with a story unfolding from talking, living beings in the worlds.
Sorry if this rpg game didn't meet your fps style, contrary to the silly and typical sky is falling crowd here, the game is still in existence and after a few months now, developement is ongoing to make it better.
Well better if you like role playing games anyway.

Some ppl like the game, some ppl don't. Personally I like the game even though it has it's flaws. People just need to leave it at that. There is no perfect memo out there and there never will. Can't wait for the GW2 discussions when it comes out. Dark pony's signature says it all there. LoL!

You sure you are playin the same game? The problem with SWTOR is the planets are dull and linear, they don't seem open at all. I don't see how you "entrench" yourself in content in a game that has very limited content besides the main quest lines.
I agree in spirit, but maybe not in quite those terms.
I think if a game is a linear themepark and the player complaints are that it is not a sandbox, that is the players fault. It's like watching a drama movie and complaining that it isn't a comedy. Well....why did you watch a drama if you wanted to watch a comedy?
However, if the game is a linear themepark, and you WANT a themepark and you feel there are deficiencies with that themepark, that can be more of a developer issue.
An example of this would be vanguard. They advertised 'meaningful' travel - it didn't exist. That isn't the players fault. The bugs and hitching and poor performance and lack of advertised features were a developer issue.
But this seems to be the exception to the rule. Most people buy a linear themepark and then complain that is a linear themepark, and that is just silliness.

You are joking right goofy3k? The main quest lines, otherwise known as the Class Stories are the smallest part of the game. Then you have the Open World Quests, the Heroic Quests, the Flash Points, and finally the Operations. On top of that you have Space Combat, PvP, World Boss kills, and exploration for things like, Lore Objects, Datacrons, and a nice view (among other things). I'm pretty sure I know what game rdrpappy is playing, but not so sure which one you are.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
Its still the fault of the MMO for attempting to attract non mmoRPG players to their mmoRPG. The genre has been slowly morphed over time as the industry tries to attract more and more players, away from virtual world simulators to either single player style rpgs that happen to have multiplayer or adding more elements to attract competitve fps'ers. You can't blame the players for their playstyle, blame the game for trying to bring in gamers whose playstyle isn't compatible with the type of game they claim to be trying to make.
I think the biggest mistake this genere did was attempt to appeal to people who hated RPG's. Now we have games that are becomming more and more MMOFPS and MMOAction games. Ever step towards this creates RPG fans who dislike the simple mechanics and "built for dummies" systems with an easy and fast trip towards instanced pvp/pve runs. At the same time they are terrible attempts at "fair" pvp the FPS/Action gamers crave. Its not easy enough for them to create a character log on and participate based on their superior finger dexterity/mouse accuracy/ macro programming expertise. THeres still a lot of RPG elements preventing them from dominating 5min into the game.
Its making both crowds unhappy with these games.
SWTOR did a great 1-50 solo experience, but it was so dumbed down, theres almost no unique paths in terms of what kind of character i have, its one of 3 trees or a hybrid, with most picking the "best"...my gear is the same as the next guys and i do the same stuff as the guy next to me. THe RPG players were kind of dissapointed with the shallowness of the game outside the 1-50 cutscenes, the non RPGers were upset with unfair PVP and unfinished endgame hampsterwheels. Star War fanatics were unphased and enjoyed that movie in 3D as well.
Every new game i look at has literally a FPS pvper army moaning over everything related to pvp, trying to force developers to change the game to cater to them. If it was up to these people the game would be a deathmatch pvp arena with a troll flame war lobby. I pvp a lot too, but christ, its not the damn focus of the game. In fact i miss games where making the right progressionc hoices gave me an advantage in pvp (remember when you use to be able to distibute stat points?)
I think a large part of the generes community needs to take a good hard look at why they play mmorpgs, then make an effort to see if those reasons are flawlessly executed in OTHER game generes. I think a lot of people would be far more happy in DOTA with a side of a good FPS game.
I just wish developers would stop catering to this crowd and start pumping out games that werent shallow pvp games. Keep the pvp, but make the focus on the game playing it rather than rushing to endgame.
Well said, it's gradual and insidious but over time everything is becoming twitch online. The devolpers cant focus and we end up with less than what any of us actualy want.
I know I'm in the right place because I like rpg's and online rpg's even more so. Sadly I agree with one of the other posters who made the point that the game would be better without any pvp at all. I still have stories to go through, planets to quest on and explore and a multitude of things to do, pvp isn't at the top of my list.
Well I love RPGs and that's one of the reasons I hate SWtoR. I can't RP, I just have to sit and listen to cut scenes, press a number in selection or spacebar through lots of pointless VO acting. Picking selections from choices in a linear quest line isn't roleplaying. To roleplay you need interaction with other human players at the very least. The last time I played a true mmorpg? UO, actullay LOTRO has a fair amount of roleplaying as well. I agree that the problem may lie with the expectations of FPS players and that ToR doesn't meet them, but equally it is certainly not a true or even good MMORPG by any stretch of the imagination. I feel more immersion in Skyrim than online with thousands of players in ToR.
If I want to play a roleplaying game these days I get the guys together for an AD&D session. Unbeatable.

It IS the players. A lot of stuff was removing in beta due to some players whining, like companions being able to die or leave you perminantly (even after multiple warnings, people still moaned after they died until they changed it) along with many other options and more advanced item modding.
They made it more wow-like because people kept crying on the forums, now after launch many people have gone to TOR because WOW is now crap and are crying because they want it to be less wow-like...
But either way, sci-fi games never do as well as fantasy because there is a smaller audience. Which is why Blizzard is basically making WOW again (Titan) for their next MMO...

Seems like fans of the SW IP can't get break on the MMO side, without every game being an object lesson to the industry, one way or another:
SWG: Don't dump the playerbase you have for one you don't by completely changing the game
SWClonewars: Just because something has SW on it, does not mean people will pay money to play it.
TOR: If you spend ~ $200 mil making an MMO, don't forget to make an MMO...

Amen!
It wasn't the driver killing people in those recalled cars a few years ago, it was the accelerator sticking.
Ballerinas are always on their toes. Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?
Its still the fault of the MMO for attempting to attract non mmoRPG players to their mmoRPG. The genre has been slowly morphed over time as the industry tries to attract more and more players, away from virtual world simulators to either single player style rpgs that happen to have multiplayer or adding more elements to attract competitve fps'ers. You can't blame the players for their playstyle, blame the game for trying to bring in gamers whose playstyle isn't compatible with the type of game they claim to be trying to make.
THe OP summed up my thoughts quite nice.
Unbeatable.
It's genre by the way.
I think he really believes it's a Roleplaying Game. Bizarre.
