I'm sorry but I have been tricked by this level of hype before and I will not be tricked again. With the (arguably) pay to win model, the incredibly simplistic combat, the unbalanced zerg fest that is WvWvW, etc....I just do not see what the fanatics are smoking.
I have high hopes for Guild Wars 2 but will not be playing until the unrealistic hype is crushed and the game is brought back down to earth.
another pointless threads so sad kid now days play game before others like it or not ,if you really want to know how good the game is play it yourself and stop reading the hype of diferent people ho some like it and others not ,no game is perfect it may be your cup of tea it may taste like crap to other the best WAY to judge a game is if you play it yourself and see what your opinion about it , if i would let miself get by hype or critics review about games i will basically be never have the chance to play any game at all cause all game have bad critics as they have good one .
PS:
STOP READING THE OPINION OF OTHER AND START BUILDING YOURS.
I do strongly disagree with you , simply because i think i find that it really makes sense to be worried about what hype does. This thread makes sense , and in contrast to alot of the other bashing threads we have had recently here. The MMO history is filled with hyped launches that just have been more or less so disappointing 3 month after. Whether GW2 do fit there or not is a totally other story. (and i for sure think that GW2 is so promising that it doesn't take alot of work studying what ArenaNet is up to, to realise that here is something special going on). But the point is with the past launches in mind, it makes sense to try to avoid jumping the hype. And the way is to get an informed oppinion or wait. And it also makes sense for fans of GW2 to just come with the good arguments for what makes this a special game worth waiting for. Because there is plenty.

How many "pay to win" posts are you going to post about the game? I would rather you not play it to be honest because your incessant whinning is starting to annoy me. Plus it is blantanly obvious you have no intention of playing the game in the first place but instead whine about everything under the sun trying to turn people against the game.
GW2 is not P2W, Anet is not some Cut Rate 3rd world development studio and any ammounts at portraying ANet as publishing a P2W game reeks of trolldom. GW2 is arguably the most anticipated MMO since WoW and the hype it receives is do to known facts, a caring company and a legit CSR focus on community. I truely dont understand why someone needs to continue to downplay what is the most innovative MMO to come along in years.
I am sure you do actually understand why the OP was made
GW2 is scary to a lot of companies with 'creative marketing' departments out there right now. I wouldn't take anything you read in any forum or user opinion box too seriously from now 'till launch.

I was going to actually respond to the OP, but then I realized it's basically a troll post in disguise. While I do agree that no one should buy something based on hype alone, this looks like yet another P2W / GW2 smear thread. If it's not a troll, then by all means wait 3-6months OP.
Personally, I know enough about the game to know that it's fun, and I'm going to enjoy it. That's all that really matters to me. While I don't agree with all of the details on the game, I'm not the one creating it. They've seemed to have done a phenominal job with the game thus far, and I actually like their design manifesto (something I can't say for most other companies), so that is a huge selling point for me.
I enjoyed the game when I played it, I like most of the changes / updates they've made to it since. I like this company and what they're trying to accomplish, so I will support them @ launch. Not saying everyone should, but that's my personal stance on this game, and no amount of hype(positive or negative) can really change that. Only facts will.
GW2 is a b2p so there's no commitment issues, it's basically the same if you bought it at release or wait 3-6 months cos you won't have to pay any sub fees for it.
Nope, no point in waiting. I've bought games for 60 bucks that turned out to be a few weeks' entertainment at best. There is absolutely no reason I'm not pre-purchasing on the 10th. Besides, it'll be a load off my mind... a lot of people have waited a long time to give ANet their money.

Hell I've bought single player / co-op games for $60 that only took 2 days at most to beat, so what's $60 for a game that should take at least 3 weeks to get to max level at full grind mode I'm sure.
I always wait. I no longer preorder games. I want to know all details about a game and I want to know what normal players and people I know and trust think about it. If everything appears to be fine I will buy it.
Of course waiting 3-6 months is a bit to much. Normally one month would be enough.
If.... it takes 3-6 months for people to determine if the game is bad...
... wouldn't that mean there's 3-6 months of enjoyable gameplay? Or do people usually play 3-6 months of a bad game before they decide they didn't have fun the whole time?
3-6 months of good gameplay for 60 dollars is a steal, even if it sours after that.
... and unlike a subscription game, you're not tacking on an extra 45-90 dollars over that time period.
Thanks! You've just convinced me to prepurchase. I like you more already, Monorojo. Let's be pals.
(edit: Though I do think it's a little crass for an Arenanet employee to pretend to be down on the game as a way to secretly point out why people should preorder the game. Oh well. Your secret is safe with me.)
Not to worry OP, D3 is going to kill your beloved light saber game long before GW2 has a chance to finish it off.
Which is good because A-net's, pay to win, cash shop will torpedo GW2 to the depths faster than the Lusitania.
Gee, aren't juvenile insults masquerading as unsubstantiated and foolish game predictions fun.
Really Bunks, posts like this aren't helping to defend this game's reputation one iota. And actually makes those of us with a generally positive outlook of the game look like a bunch of spoiled prats.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
Most games cost 60 bucks and have a weeks or two worth of gameplay... if GW2 is good for 3-6 months or more.. then it's well worth it.
But really, what a stupid thread. Why would unrealistic hype change anything about the actual game itself? It doesn't, so if you're going to wait 3-6 months you may as well just buy it day one... there will be no actual difference... except maybe a couple updates..
The best moments, the best pvp, the best stories, the great emotions while waiting for the server to come up and come up again after a crash, the first meetings of new people, new guilds, world firsts, the exploration, the conquering and all the fresh new things happen ... well, in the time you want to avoid.
have fun, while we play a new great game and already throw it away and go on - when you finally decide to spend 40 bucks
Not to worry OP, D3 is going to kill your beloved light saber game long before GW2 has a chance to finish it off.

Sorry, I like to throw sarcasm in the face of child like temper tantrums, especially the written kind like this thread. It deserves to be deleted, not entertained.
About all games are on launch bugged and laggy like crazy, and everything about them exaggerated to weird extends. I wouldn't preorder games, and only in rare cases buy them on launch. If you lpay a game a month or two after release, or during the first hour, ain't much of a difference. Except that most of the lag will be gone, there won't be any queues, the worst bugs will be fixed, reviews will be available (those which ain't just ads in disguise) and so on.

No worries, I've been guilty of the same thing myself. Just giving the caveat that such things have the potential to harm your own argument rather than his.

Watch the video's on youtube with the commentary turned off, judge the game play yourself. Too simple? The game play looks too much like fun to me. I'd rather watch 8 cool downs than have to watch 80.
In fact, all your negative points in the OP are pre-judgements based on what?
The cash shop hasn't even been fully announced yet, any speculation on the game ending up a P2W is exactly that, speculation. ANet have promised it will only add flavour items, services and items that add to the fun of the game. The best gear you'll get will be from in game actions, the gear isn't even the iwin it is in the likes of WoW. Skill, planning and tactics are far more important than gear.
Simplistic combat based on what exactly? With a few minor exceptions all mmo's out there use a toolbar with buttons to click and cool downs to watch. Enemy AI is always simplistic till you get to bosses then it comes to situational awareness and skill. I find myself baffled by the complexity they've added to some of these classes, they each have their own little quirks. Engineer's toolkit, Thief’s initiative and stealing, guardians auras and even the whole downed state. ANet have by all accounts created a combat system that's going to be easy enough to play but hard to master.
unbalanced zerg fest that is WvWvW. The only video's I've seen of WvWvW have been from the beta servers. I've never seen a game video that's populated in beta. Ofc the sides will be imbalanced, they probably only have a few hundred players on each side. As for the zergfest, when I hear that I think Tol Barad and Wintergrasp (both of which are still very popular). Having a dynamitic and fast paced pvp environment is essential to keep the pvpers engaged.
I think your giving too much attention to the haters and Nah-Sayers, it's not hype your experiancing it's excitement.
TL;DR - I'll be buying it at release, not because people say it looks awesome but because it does look awesome. Stop pandaing to the wow groupies who are praying to cthun that it'll fail, make up your own mind by reading up on the details at the GW2 wiki and watch some video's. (TIP: If the video say's "I will/wont be buying this game because___", then it's an expression of someone elses opinion, go for the professional bodies...total biscuit is my personal favourite, he just tells it how it is)

Nothing wrong with sarcasm, just try doing it gentler, rather than mean.
Be polite about it! Be calm and serene. Be the zen garden to their incoherent rage.

I have seen flaws for sure but I have seen enough to make me interested enough to buy it. Not to mention soon enough you will start seeing alot of "player" views once the first non press beta event happens.
I also want to counter a couple of your points. I wont say anything about the cash shop since we just dont know enough yet. A person can assume what they saw is what they will get. I just prefer to wait and see.
I definitly did not see the same thing you did with combat. Its a fairly complex system with a fairly large amount of skills to learn. At least if you want to be the best you can be. I saw a bunch of people that didnt have time to learn the system verry well. Again, I may be completely wrong but I just dont see anything simplistic where you will have to know what weapons do what, which weapons counter what and then add in traits ect ontop of that.
As for the WvW being unbalanced and zerg. Uh duh? The devs have said themselves thats what WvW will be, unbalanced chaos.

Unrealistic Hype?
Actually i´m hypped for what they already have working "in game"....
I mean...they are just promoting what is implemented in the game... not selling ideas...or promises....
There are plenty of gameplays videos on the net....and upcoming Beta events to try it for yourself
I´m hyped for what there is.
I´m buying on day one.
